[break][break]Tonight was as lively as ever. In Lilycove's alleyways all manner of people laughed and enjoyed the festival-like atmosphere of the Yokocho. In particular, she idly watched a group playing Mahjong outside of the noodle shop she chose for her meeting. All while the soft sizzling of noodles being prepared and the scent of chicken broth kept her stomach happily anticipating its next meal. Her phone and by proxy the Amigo app had been all but abandoned as it simply weighed her right hand down on the bar counter she sat.

[break][break]'I wonder what kind of woman this Yujin Ha is...Her personality seems a bit...interesting.'

[break][break]She thought to herself as she remembered their brief conversations in regard to where to go. Although they didn't speak much, she could tell that they were fundamentally different people. She vaguely wondered if that meant they'd get along or if there'd be tension. Then again she had the communication skills of a shedlder at times. Meanwhile Yujin Ha seemed...varied in her capabilities. Beautiful, extroverted, confident...

[break][break]Shion found herself sighing dejectedly.

[break][break]As a more serious minded individual...she imagined herself to be far more plain, especially when she wasn't being abrasive on reflex. Maybe she'd be able to make it clear that she was just earnest? The platinum blond shook her head gently and put away her worries. She'd not even met the woman properly yet and she was making presumptions about her future success on making a good impression. She decided to expend her energy on something she did know :

Yujin sat down on the stool next to Shion, folding together like a proudly displayed piece of origami.[break][break]

It wasn’t often one had the chance to dress traditionally. At least, not without attracting scores of untold attention. The Yokocho was ideal in this regard. Every perfumed stall, every colorful talisman hung from the eaves, every patter of last night’s water on the rain chains brought back older, simpler memories.[break][break]

This young woman, Shion, was the epitome of the yamato nadeshiko. Her white hair would have been praised in that society, as would her muted, demure manner. Yujin grew up eclipsed by such girls, but now, she smiled with a confidence borne from a black and roving eye.[break][break]

[break][break]Shion's thoughts were interrupted by an unfamiliar voice. When she turned to identify its owner, she finally saw Yujin in person for the first time. Ironically Yujin had a doubled affect appearing in her traditional wear. With the summer festivals on the horizon, she'd almost made Shion check the calendrer. The woman looked exactly as one would expect of a local during one of their midsummer, fireworks laden celebrations. It was impressive how she could blend in so well, while still offering such a stylish and flashy appearance. As she'd expected of Miss Yujin Ha, the woman was respectably fashionable.

[break][break]"Huh?" The cadet was yet again pulled from her brief, but aloof gaze. After realizing herself, she wondered if she just came off as denizen of the clouds. She offered a faint smile in greeting and partially bowed in her senior's direction with respect from her seat. It was all very short of standing at attention and providing a salute.

[break][break]By now the pair of flowers at the end of the ramen shop's bar would have their beers delivered.

“There is no need to be formal.” Beyond the girl’s base formality which, it seemed, was already a wall which few had the purchase to climb. Yujin would bow her head back, fluttering about a dainty fan she’d accosted from an old merchant that smelled of incense.[break][break]

She would lightly toast the beer as it arrived, taking a rather unceremonious swig—less like a mod geisha and more like a sea-eyed sailor.[break][break]

“It was no trouble. In Alola is an enclave much like this one. I spent many years there, so this feels a bit like home,” she said.[break][break]
"You live in Lilycove, then? Is this your..." she fluttered the fan in mock melodrama, "...turf?"

[break][break]Shion turned to her bowel of shio ramen and only briefly returned a rise of her bottle to meet Yujin's. Afterward a crack of her chopsticks saw that a spool of sea flavored noodles would begin the pace of her hunger being sated. She took time answering the question, trying to find a decent way to answer it. One would think this were a simple enough inquiry...but there was nuance.

[break][break]"Turf..." Shion began after ensuring she wasn't speaking with her mouth full," Is an odd word to use...But I can't deny that I have some minor influence on the streets here. It is my home, my work place, and my treasure."

[break][break]Her golden brown eyes took on a contemplative half light. With such a neutral expression, it was hard to determine what she may be thinking in that brief moment of pause. Then her eyes turned to light on Yujin's. A careful appraising look that no longer had interest in the surface became visible. Her attention once lost on the beauty of Yujin's fan, now only concerned itself with the apparent nature she could read from the woman with strong observation skills.

The frosted mountain where Yujin was born could not be returned to. Over the sea and on a hot, humid coast, rife with glittering sands and loud, colorful people, she had tried again. “I don’t own much, so I am possessive of what little I do.” A place, a person, a prerogative, it matters not.[break][break]

It was a small, comforting thing, watching Shion eat her ramen, tracing the position of her fingers on the chopsticks, wondering where practice began and habit ended. The owner asked Yujin if she wanted food with her beer; the dark-haired woman shook her head.[break][break]

“Why do you serve, Uehara? Why did you come here, cautiously trying to meet other veterans?”
