after decades of drop-ins by team rocket, he isn't surprised that someone inevitably shows up to his clinic. he is surprised, however, to have THEO BECKETT standing in the doorway of his half-unpacked office. the sight of him earns attention stolen away from the paperwork on his desk. he matches his greeting in kind, sitting up a little straighter in his chair. his thumb absentmindedly traces the end of his pen, contemplating whether to set aside his work aside completely.

marcus raises an eyebrow at his choice of words, but makes no complaints. perhaps he'll put an aquarium in the now-empty waiting area so THEO BECKETT will give him a warmer welcome next time around. his smile has completely evaporated by the time the underboss reaches his desk, replaced by mirthless curiosity toward the manila folder in front of him.

"simple enough," he obliges, flipping it open to skim the contents. he can't imagine it's a far cry from the people he's used to working with in kanto. the cursory look satiates him for now, so he flips the folder closed and sets his pen aside with a click!

"tell me, beckett," he starts, tipping his chin up to look at him from his seat. "how bad is the situation here, truly?"
