Rusturf Tunnel was the quickest route between Verdanturf Town and Rustboro City, but that did not make it a particularly enjoyable experience for Yumi. Inside, the tunnel was dark and dirty, with wild Pokémon likely to attack at any time.[break][break]

Still, she had places to be and people to see. Her shiny Eevee was helping her navigate the route, too. The small Pokémon scouted ahead, using DETECT to ensure the coast was clear for her new mistress.[break][break]

"Don't wander too far off, Shinpi," Yumi called out to the Pokémon. "I can't follow you if I can't see you."

Was that...?

No way! A shiny Eevee...?!

Ivy couldn't believe her eyes when she saw it just wandering around in the tunnels. It was dark and gritty in here so honestly, the young woman only wanted to get through this place as quickly as possible. And now, here of all places, she saw her first shiny Pokemon ever? What were the odds!

Immediately she kneeled down and got out one of her four Pokeballs. "Shhh, hey there, shh shh.." Ivy was ready to throw it once the Eevee would look into her direction, wondering where that voice came from.

Yumi rounded a corner, expecting to see her Pokémon just a few feet away but finding nothing but an empty, cavernous corridor of stone. Anxiety started to rise within her as she swept her dark gaze around the area, seeking answers the tunnel would not give her.[break][break]

"Shinpi? Shinpi!" she called out, her pace quickening as she continued down the dark space. "Where did you go?"[break][break]

Finally, she turned another corner and saw her Eevee. The Pokémon's ears were perked up as she regarded the stranger kneeling a short distance away.[break][break]

Unfamiliarity bred caution; Shinpi tilted her head at the woman but did not approach.

While in the distance some other Trainer was talking to their Pokemon, Ivy was focused on the Eevee and didn't pay attention to the words spoken. She took a step forward but felt unsure wether to keep approaching or not. The wild creature looked at her with hesitation.

"I have some treats, my little one." While speaking, Ivy moved her hand towards one of her pockets and grabbed a small snack. Then she held out her hand, revealing the food to the shiny Eevee. "Do you want it?" She smiled.

The promise of food overrode the gluttonous Eevee's survival instinct. She padded over to the stranger and took a tentative bite of the snack.[break][break]

As soon as she chomped down on it, she started to dart backward, intending to eat with the safety of some distance from the girl.[break][break]

"There you are!" Yumi exclaimed when she saw Shinpi. Her eyes fell upon the stranger then, narrowing at the unfamiliar face. "And what do you think you're doing?"[break][break]

It was entirely possible the girl was friendly, but suspicion of others' motivations had been beaten into Yumi since she was a child.

The Eevee taking her food and chewing on it, albeit a few steps away, sparked joy in Ivy. She considered that perhaps this animal was too shy to join her team, and she wouldn't want to force it. But the least she could do was take a nice picture of it to--

Her blood froze to ice when she realized she was being spoken to! Ivy looked up, spotting someone approaching the Eevee that perhaps wasn't all that wild... it already had a trainer taking care of it!

Ivy wanted to explain the situation, but momentarily she was stunned, not knowing what words to say to the stranger. So she just stared, looking guilty of something she had not wanted to do. She hadn't wanted to breach another trainer's boundaries, really!

Yumi arched an eyebrow when the other woman did not answer. She did not stand out at all, and Yumi didn't recognize her from Team Rocket's member database, either.[break][break]

The guilt in the stranger's face suggested some earlier ill intent, however, and suspicion rose in Yumi the longer the silence went on.[break][break]

"Well? Are you going to say anything, or are you just going to gawk? Staring is rude, you know."[break][break]

Shinpi looked between the two women, confused.

"Wow, thanks for assuming the worst." Ivy huffed. She did not like the tone in which this stranger spoke to her, as if she had something to apologize for! Ivy didn't consider how from an outside perspective, the other woman's viewpoint was quite justified.

"I didn't see you, that's all. Go have a nice day.." The way Ivy spat out the second sentence, it was clear she wasn't simply wishing them the best. She was grumpy.

As it turned out, the stranger had a vile personality to boot. Yumi rolled her eyes, unfazed by the vitriol thrown her way. She was above such small-time pettiness.[break][break]

"Let's go, Shinpi," she said to her shiny Eevee, turning to leave. "We don't need to spend any more time in this bitch's presence. I'll get you better treats than whatever she fed you."[break][break]

The Eevee mewed, wagging her tail, and started after her mistress.

"Bitch?!" Ivy couldn't believe her ears. But then again, this was fitting the way this strange woman had behaved and spoken before. Just being rude and pretending like giving her Eevee some food was a crime! Ivy couldn't wait to get away from her and clear her mind. She felt claustrophobic, elevated by the interior of this tunnel, damp and dark.

"Hope we don't meet again, you-" Ivy cut herself off and just walked off into the opposite direction as the woman.

Don't pay it too much attention.
