Yumi recognized the Xatu in the next scenario, though she did not remember much of the vision it had granted her at the time. She'd been so preoccupied with her own thoughts and emotions that she hadn't paid much attention. [break][break]

That would have been the same case now, but when the vision revealed a young Hitoshi, she started to pay attention. Yumi watched, silent, as the events and their unfortunate consequences unfolded. [break][break]

"So that was your mother," she murmured, feeling foolish for such an obvious statement. Hitoshi looked too much like the strange woman who turned her eyes away from him; it was impossible to deny the resemblance. [break][break]

Falling silent, Yumi waited to see how the rest of the vision played out. [break][break]

Yumi sighed. Nabi had asked a complicated question, and she wasn't sure if she was in the mood to answer it. Still, she tried her best; it was better than being surrounded by the forlorn silence of her ruined business. [break][break]

"Some people think the League government isn't doing enough to protect its citizens, especially with all the crazy shit happening in the region," she said. "Look at what happened here, for example." [break][break]

She swept an arm in a grand gesture, as if to encompass the entire casino floor. "Why hadn't the League stopped Kyogre earlier? What about the invading alien forces or destruction of the land?" [break][break]

Dropping her arm to her side, Yumi continued, "A small number of those discontented people go to extreme lengths. Maybe they think that's what it will take for change. And the League, on the other hand, is trying to uphold the law. But when they go to such violent lengths without anything to show for it…" [break][break]

She shook her head and sighed again.

Yumi snuggled into Nikkari, her head resting comfortably against his shoulder, her arm slung across his torso and her legs tangled with his. His every subtle movement moves against her and through her. [break][break]

When he spoke, she craned her neck so she could gaze upon him, though she did not lift her head from where it lay. [break][break]

"Why can't we have both?" she asked, meaning it. The low, soft quality of her voice betrayed her current state of vulnerability. "I value you as a business partner, and I think it would be foolish for both of us to stop working together just because of this." [break][break]

She squeezed his side to emphasize her point. [break][break]

"But I also value you, Nikkari. As a person. You've been a good friend to me, in ways no one else has been. Would it be so bad to show you my appreciation once in a while?" Yumi murmured, unable to stop an affectionate smile from spreading across her face.

Its vacant eyes continuously track the sun... until all of you arrive.[break][break]

Psychically, it casts a vision of your past or future to your minds. Is it accurate? Truthful? Real or false? It is hard to shake the unnerving feeling as the Alolan winds whip past you.

Yumi fixed her gaze upon the coin as it flipped into the air. She watched it bounce off Father Winter's hand and onto the sidewalk below, landing perfectly on its side. [break][break]

"So you have," was all she said in bitter reply. [break][break]

The Unown in the corner of her vision distracted her long enough to miss Father Winter's disappearance. When she turned her gaze back to the alley, he had vanished, replaced instead by a gleaming portal. [break][break]

Without looking at Hitoshi, without waiting for whatever objections might come out of his mouth, she walked straight into the rift. The scenario would change whether he followed her or stayed. [break][break]

Yumi maintained her smile through Nabi's joke. She appreciated the attempt at lightening the mood with some humor, though she couldn't find it in herself to counter with a witty remark. Her own heart was too heavy. [break][break]

"Maybe for my next venture," was all Yumi said. "Hopefully you were also far away from here, and safe from harm, when this place was flooded. Not all of my employees were so lucky, but thankfully, there were only a few deaths." [break][break]

Death was a natural part of life, and anyone in the employment of a Hasegawa risked meeting it sooner than later. But not even she could have expected the wrath of Kyogre or the vicious battle between Team Rocket and the League that took place across Sootopolis' crater. [break][break]

"Walk with me," Yumi said as she started toward one end of the casino. It was half a command, half a suggestion.

As Nikkari kissed her, Yumi melted against him, allowing him to captivate all her senses. Her arms wrapped around his neck, pulling him closer. Slender fingers tangled in his pale hair. [break][break]

"What if it was?" she breathed, teasing, fully aware that there was no turning back from a second entanglement. She pressed a kiss to the sensitive skin on his neck just beneath his earlobe. "I don't hear you objecting." [break][break]

A sudden thump from elsewhere in the room drew Yumi's attention away from Nikkari's caresses. Looking over, she remembered her new Vulpix, who had knocked the magazines from her coffee table. At least the Pokémon had the grace to look apologetic. [break][break]

Laughing softly, Yumi withdrew from Nikkari but caught his hand with her own. "Let's take this to the bedroom," she suggested, tugging him in that direction.

[attr="class","itemcoltext"]You call the coin toss. The coin flips in the air, its golden edge glinting by Mauville's troffer lights. When it lands, the dark-haired man slaps the coin onto the back of his hand.[break][break]

"it's your lucky day." He says. "every day is a lucky day for this region. it is a miracle that the original one hasn't seen perceived you yet."[break][break]

Suddenly, you think see a hovering UNOWN in the corner of your vision but before you can confirm its presence, it disappears. Turning back to the man, you notice that he too, has vanished... into a rift.

This second scenario was more familiar to Yumi. She and Hitoshi had stood at the mouth of that alley before and faced the same man. Father Winter, a member of the DRK Triad. Yumi tensed, apprehensive, but let the coin fall as it would. She didn't care if it landed on heads or tails. [break][break]

"I don't know," she said in response to Hitoshi's question instead. "How can you help? You're never around anymore." [break][break]

More and more, she'd grown to rely on her Pokémon for protection, but especially in the last month while Hitoshi played soldier for Team Rocket. And in the days following the flooding, he hadn't stopped by the casino to check on how things were going. [break][break]

He hadn't even stopped by her apartment. [break][break]

Casino Starlight maintained a garden plot so the chefs of its restaurants could obtain fresh produce at any time of day. Sootopolis’ flooding, however, completely ruined the plants there. Many harvestable vegetables and berries were totally destroyed, and the ones that weren’t lay scattered about the garden for all manner of thieves. [break][break]

Yumi spotted one such criminal on her first visit to the garden after the battle. A Sneasel had gathered an armful of produce and was trying to snatch up more. [break][break]

“Hey!” Yumi exclaimed, reflexively reaching for a Pokéball. “Thief! Stop!” [break][break]

Not that she could use the stolen vegetables, either. But neither could she let wild Pokémon run rampant through her property, either. [break][break]

Her Sceptile emerged in a flash of light. The Forest Pokémon brought down a ROCK SLIDE using some of scattered debris, knocking the Sneasel unconscious and its plunder from its arms. [break][break]

Seizing her chance, Yumi threw an empty Pokéball to capture the would-be thief.

Yumi's grin blossomed as Nikkari pulled her flush against the front of his body. Thrill flooded her at the contact, coloring her complexion with a feverish blush. A boldness seized her, and she tugged at his collar in her hand. [break][break]

"Kiss me again," she demanded, her voice low and languid. "Like before. Don't hold anything back." [break][break]

The wine could wait. Conversations about real estate, the impending war, and the art installations she might insist he take her to—they could all wait. All Yumi wanted at that moment was for Nikkari to worship at her altar once more.
