they've never fought like this before, at least not this physically, but times have changed and they have to as well or risk stagnating in a lost past.

the moment his foot hits the ground to support his weight, he lunges back to return a front kick to her gut.

It feels good to cut his words short, the whistle of air leaving his diaphragm as she makes contact.[break][break]
Her feet plant again, not losing ground as he stumbles back. She carries herself forward again, swinging with her other fist in an uppercut, though he’ll know it’s coming for sure this time.[break][break]
It feels sort of wrong too, though. Like she’s crossing some unspoken line she’d told herself she never would. Despite all of her anger, and her past, and her proclivity for using fists over words, Theo had never been on the other end of it.[break][break]
But he’d gone back on things she didn’t think he’d do, either.[break][break]
Staying in Rocket. Dragging her into it again.[break][break]
A part of her wishes he’d just left like he said he would.[break][break]
Blue braces for the kick that comes, but it catches her and uproots her stance. He’s taller, longer-limbed. She uses the stagger to spin, then hook around to batter at his sides. A low blow near the kidneys.

he expects nothing less from a trained fighter and brute like blue murtagh; someone who has to fight their way through life; someone with a permanent chip on their shoulder; someone who would rather lose than have their beliefs bent.

the uppercut is slipped, his kick misses, and a hook batters into his side. no matter how hard he may tense, there's no denying the sudden loss of breath he feels.

curiously, the hook he returns is aimed higher than usual, as though intended to easily allow her to slip under it.
