Gerald felt a certain unease as he swaggered toward the Arena. What nervousness he felt hidden behind a cocky neutrality. This was just a battle like any other. The only difference, the audience.

Unfortunately the tiny voice of his little sister eagerly cheering on him and the Absol by his side, was drowned by the rest of the crowd. Yet he felt her hopeful eyes upon him. He had to win this.

“The name is Gerald. I hope you are prepared to lose.”

He spoke matter-of-factly as the Absol stepped onto the arena ready to fight. It didn't matter that the opponent that stood before him was a known Gym-Leader. Gerald would take him down all the same.

A faint flicker of annoyance washed over his face as the Gym Leader’s buffonery became apparent.

Deciding not to add fuel to the fire he simply gave a quick nod to the arena letting the Absol know that it was time.

The four legged Pokemon was quick to jump in, and in so doing wasted no time as a quick slam of paw against arena floor sent a barrage of STONE EDGE’s up, ripping the arena apart with spikes of stone.

it's all part of their game plan: annoy Gerald Kaiser into being distracted so they can capitalize. it seems to be working so far as froakie's able to evade through the bursting STONE EDGES, clipped by some but not hurt enough to slow its approach.[break][break]

froakie leaps up onto one of the STONE EDGES, landing gracefully only to spit out a HYDRO PUMP down at absol.[break][break]

The Hydro Pump came crashing down. Giving it what amounted to a very painful powerwash. The Absol growled in annoyance.

Seeing the speed and dexterity that the Froakie moved with made it clear that Gerald couldn’t be holding back. And so a quick sailor-moon transformation later and the Absol had mega evolved.

Absol jumped toward the Froakie, using a nearby rock to set off. It’s purple glowing claws infused with cutting power intent on delivering a powerful NIGHT SLASH to the Froakie.

that seems so unfair! but then again, he is wearing his SYGNA SUIT, and the mechanics of how the tournament has been set up makes it so they're meant to be on even grounds anyway.[break][break]

Absol was certain the slash hit true. Though the Double Team made it hard to confirm. Still, with power coursing through it, Absol decided to only do the barest of attempts at dodging the Smack Down. Not that it could do a whole lot as it was mid jump. Still it was just enough to not feel the wrath of Froakie.

With DOUBLE TEAM in play Absol now had to deduce which was the real one. A quick glance and she believed to have found the one. Setting off from another nearby stepping rock it charged toward the Froakie it thought to be the real. It’s claws kept glowing the eerie purple, a tell-tale sign revealing what Absol’s plan was.

It was going to shower the Froakie in NIGHT SLASH’s until the Froakie was defeated.

Mega evolution came to an end. Absol had done it’s best and yet failed to deliver the Night slash before it was too late. With the sudden lack of power and speed in her body she found herself at the receiving end of the Froakie’s Smack Down.

Absol fell to the ground, which was bad. But it wasn’t the worst part of it all. At least not for Gerald.

For the perceptive a small twitch in the corner of the eye, and a tightening of his jaw showed clearly that Cian’s use of chat-speak annoyed him.

“Get up, you’ve got more in you than that!” Gerald commanded.

And Absol followed. Quickly rising to her paws she after images following in her wake as she performed a DOUBLE TEAM, to confuse the Froakie with the intent on getting closer and deliver yet another NIGHT SLASH.

The Hydro Pump struck true or so it would seem for a brief second. Then the Absol disappeared in a swirling swoosh as it was revealed to be one of the double-team images that had taken the attack.

Gerald had a feeling this could be the end. Tension rose in his body to the point where he could no longer stand quietly by.

“Finish this!” He commanded letting all the tension release.

Absol was all to eager to obliged as it put all that it had into this last delivery of NIGHT SLASH.

Absol roared fiercely as it put in all the effort that it could to meet with the Hydro Pump. Alas, all of its efforts simply weren’t enough.

First the Absol grinded to a halt, then it struggled to stay in its place, and at last the water blasted it out of the arena. Defeated.

Gerald fought bravely, but in the end he could not hide the disappointment in his face. He retrieved the Absol back into its Pokeball.

“Well fought.” Gerald didn’t stick around to hear whatever reply Cian might offer him.
