It turned out rapid-fire fighting and getting the shit beat out of you worked up a hell of an appetite. Lucan still had pieces of the high-calorie Pokemon food stuck to his many-toothed maw as he took his place in the arena, scrabbling at his face with his three-clawed hands and snuffling like a Grumpig hunting for truffles.

This match reminded him of the one he had with John Sullivan, only with a different Bug-type Pokémon. Instead of a Scyther, they were met with a Pinsir, and if they weren’t careful, they might get skewered on those horns… or worse!

Hoping against hope that this wasn’t going to bite them in the ass, the Absol then concentrated with a Swords Dance to set up before lashing out later.

Onyx had been in too many of these to truly believe this was going to be a three attack victory.

Lucan’s guillotine was deflected by the crash of psychic energy. The Pinsir dodged to the side, keeping his momentum, and as he ducked his head and went to vital throw the Absol, Onyx touched the mega-stone in his pocket, powering up the mega evolution and hopefully giving Lucan the oomph he needed to finish the bout.

Unfortunately, the Absol’s mounting luck was still building. They managed to dodge out of the way of Lucan’s attack, turning on their heels to deliver a sharp claw to the face, slashing across Lucan’s eyes. Fur got stuck in his chomping maw as he drove forward with superpower, throwing the last of his energy into one final attack.

Instead, he squared his shoulders, and gave his Absol a tiny little knowing nod.

With those words, the Dark-type would then charge forward for one last time; with a surprise Psycho Cut coming in really fast, really close, and really—
