THE SEA CREATURE SLAMS INTO THE SHORE, causing the sea to erupt with a massive splash. several tentacles snap off, including the one grappling metagross. freed from the kraken's grasp, lars' metagross is able to return to safety! the party realizes that if they hadn't broken the barrier in time, the metagross may have been severely injured if not entirely knocked out.[break][break][break]

STRUGGLING to maintain its footing, the tentacruel wavers dizzily in the sea! it doesn't seem to be able to retaliate, especially since several of its massive tentacles float eerily upon the incoming tide. it seems to be on its last legs! literally!

olivia grimaced as the mutated tentacruel was decimated by their unity attack. it brought her pain to watch a creature of the sea behave in such a way; alas, her duty to the league forced her hand.

“keep the assault going, gentlemen. it’s on its last legs... but do not kill it.” she ordered before giving a nod to her cradily who used giga drain, ribbons of green energy shooting from her pink petals.

"we can do this... we can win! just don't give up!" theodore cheered as their combined attack dealt a harsh blow to the giant sea creature.

watching it crash into the ocean tide even momentarily was satisfying to theo, even though he wasn't an overtly violent person. not wanting to lose the advantage they had with the stunned pokemon.

theo commanded his zoroark to use another night slash on the downed pokemon, wary about the poison coursing through its veins but knowing it didn't want to give up despite it. "zoroark! use night slash!"

words of encouragement do little to change his perspective on the battle. he knows they'll be victorious. he knows that the tentacruel will faint. but he also knows what happens after; olivia's words only confirm it.

he says nothing.

from clawitzer's large claw forms another DARK PULSE, forming under the additional strength of MEGA LAUNCHER. he holds on to it for moments, channeling, before releasing the dark attack right at the stunned tentacruel.

He couldn’t believe it.

That one sparkling rock he’d found in the ruins of the family home in Sootopolis was actually—something that Ro reacted to?! Blinking his eyes in silent shock, the dark, miasmic attack shatters the barrier and snaps off several tentacles. This includes the one holding his transformed Metagross, and before they can get a second look a sudden tidal wave of water drops down on them all.

He didn’t mind this because hell, he was already soaked from the several wipeouts that had happened earlier!

Now that he was soaked again from head to toe, all he did was shake the water out of his eyes. Now that the giant Tentacruel was in too much shock to even move, he realized that they could end this—right now.

“Ro. It’s still under Telekinesis! We can slug it now—use your Meteor Mash!” he calls out as he shakes more saltwater out of his hair.

Hearing a grating noise, the transformed Metagross turns to stare at the Tentacruel, before hovering forward and bringing back one of its many arms as it prepares to slug the giant kaiju wannabe away from the coast with its Meteor Mash attack!

While Lars wasn’t aware of the ability of Tough Claws, the strength of the attack would hit harder than normal—would they be able to end this on their terms? Save Slateport from ruin?

Only time would tell.

the terrifying titan fell back into the ocean, the waves swelling around the tentacruel as it began to gargle and sink into the sea. the crashing waves fell upon olivia and her company but she did not falter. instead, she released three pokemon: sao the gorgebyss, ornea the staryu, and stilbe the slowbro. "contain it." olivia ordered, and simultaneously, all three pokemon used psychic. a silence fell over the trio as they concentrated their minds to complete the task given to them.

it took a few moments, but slowly, a swirling bubble of pink energy broke through the surface of the salty waters; inside was the unconscious tentacruel. olivia called out, "keep it there, do not release it until i have given the order." then, atop her mantine, she finally returned to the shore. the crowd was still and silent, curious as to what the sootopolis gym leader was doing. yes, they had been saved, but now the sea witch brought the monster out once more?

panic can spread like wild fire, and olivia knew that all too well. "friends, stay calm." she began, as members of the crown began to fill in at olivia's side. her entourage about, she whispered orders for their boat to be brought to the coast, and the mutant captured. curt nods were given as a select few members of her guard did as they were bid. "this attack has been stopped with the aide of our champion ALEXANDER STONE as well as the courageous acts of a ranger and a trainer who i am sure will be a familiar face in the future." olivia continued, giving props to Laurence Anderson and @theodore. her azure eyes shifted to where the crowd's gaze remained: on the bubbled monster. she continued, "yet, we cannot blame this pokemon for its actions, nor should we wish any further harm unto it; for this is not the first, nor do i believe it will be the last, time an attack such as this will happen. mutations and enraged pokemon can be attributed to many things, but it is of my professional and educated opinion, as both a professor and gym leader, that this is - in part - due to the environment. pollution increased six fold while rocket held onto slateport, and in turn, brought horrors to the habitats of many pokemon. this tentacruel a prime example."

her voice was droned out by the whirring of an incoming boat, members of the crown aboard the vessel as they began to work out how to get the creature safely aboard. "it is with this theory in mind that i will research and rehabilitate this pokemon in the safety of the sootopolis seas. not only will i discover what caused such an aggressive and sudden mutation, but i will do my duty to you, the people, and assure that this pokemon is safely released back into the wild with a soothed nature and acclimation to humans so that this pokemon will never again harm hoenn." olivia finished. a slow clap began to surge through the crowd, and olivia flashed a small smile. "but let us, once more, give thanks to our brave champion, ALEXANDER STONE! for without his stalwart leadership this would not have gone as smoothly as wished." again, the crowd cheered. olivia figured alexander could use the positive attention as much as her. plus, with the crowd focused on him, her team could work on safely netting and carrying the giant.
