"You know, Blue is actually a very popular name in Kanto." He mused from across the battlefield to his opponent, gaze up in the air as he smiled in self-amusement. "Lot of primary colors are, now that I think about it. It didn't use to make me think before, but that's kinda fun, ain't it?"

In Kanto, there was no particular rhyme or reason for giving a child such a name, unless the parent was an artist feeling particularly poetic that day.

Looking over me Murtagh, however, he could think of at least one good reason a parent might call her Blue.

"I'm John. Kinda boring, but I like it a lot nowadays." He said, before shaking his head with a chuckle. "Sorry, sorry. I must be boring ya to tears. Ready when ya are."

His Scyther lowered her stance as she spread out her scythes, looking ready to begin.

“Is it?” she asked flatly in return. “I wouldn’t know, I’m from Johto.” Blue could probably stand to be a little more amiable. She’d willingly chosen to enter into this tourney, after all, and the guy was just being conversational. But friendliness sat awkwardly on her shoulders.[break][break]
Still, she could give it a go. “I guess so, yeah. It’s unique, or whatever.” Or really, it wasn’t all that unique if color names were popular there. Ugh, socializing was hard.[break][break]
She couldn’t really tell him if her parents actively named her Blue, since she’d never known them. The hair was a dead ringer, though.[break][break]
“You like being boring?” she asked, then shrugged. “Boring’s fine.” Mundane life sounded nice, in all honesty. She’d never had that.[break][break]
Blue whistled, bringing her mightyena into a crouched, fighting posture. Bright violent tera energy enveloped her, leaving her buffed with poison crystals.

He snickered; was she humoring him, or brushing him off...? He decided to take her words in the best light, smiling.

"Well, it is pretty unique in Johto! I think they prefer precious metals over there." Gold, Silver... Crystal wasn't really a metal, but weirdly popular as well.

"Oh- I meant my name. I like it a lot nowadays; came with a change of perspective, you could say." He said with a chuckle, glancing down while shaking his head, hands on his hips.

What was she doing these days...? Was she okay?

... Not like he would find out just standing there and thinking about it.

"Sorry— got lost in my thoughts there. Shall we?" He asked, grinning as cocked his head.

His Scyther stepped forth, awaiting for her opponent to do the same before lowering herself into a combat stance.

"Let's have a good match, Ms. Blue!" Doug said, before swinging his arm through the air dramatically. "Kama! Go!"

Kama lunged forward immediately, her silhouette blurring in and out of view as she rapidly closed the distance between herself and the Mightyena.

TL;DR:
Kama used Acrobatics!

Her head tilted to the side in thought, “I guess you have a point, there..” But really, she didn’t know all that much on the specifics of names and popularity.[break][break]

“Nothing wrong with change.” A fact that she was only somewhat coming to grips with herself after years of refusing to do exactly that.[break][break]

She waves off the apology, agreeing to the start of the match with a definitive nod of her head.[break][break]

“Just Blue is fine,” she replied flatly with a lift of her shoulder, “never really been the Ms. sort.” She clicked her tongue, chin nodding at the scyther. “Bonnie, go.”[break][break]

The terastalized mightyena wuffs low, then sprang forward to meet the other pokemon halfway. Her teeth bared, Bonnie attempted to clamp down onto one of the scyther’s legs with POISON FANGS.

Though Kama initiated, the Mightyena proved more ferocious, catching her mid-acrobatics with a poisonous fangs to the leg.

The Scyther released a pained hiss, powerful canines crushing down unto her chitin armor— but she wasn't about to take it lying down.

It was difficult to dislodge a hyena once it bit down, but she was certainly gonna try.

Folding her scythe inwards so as to turn it into a club, the Scyther swung it at her opponent's face firmly, intent on dislodging it from her.

TL;DR:
Kama used Close Combat!

Once she latched on, poison sank through her fangs–attempting to infect her opponent to the best of her ability.[break][break]
Stubbornly, Bonnie holds her grip on the scyther’s leg for as long as she can. The swing of the bug’s blades deter her– scraping across her snout before she can yank herself far enough out of reach.[break][break]
The mightyena growls, shaking her head back and forth to dispel the stinging pain of the cut before she barrels in toward the opposing pokemon again. Twisting at the last moment, she kicks out with her hind legs and aims a SUCKER PUNCH at the scyther’s abdomen.

Kama felt instant relief the moment the opponent was dislodged— and then the venom kicked in after the exterior pain had faded, and she was instantly in a worse mood.

Her scythes came together as the next blow came, the powerful strike forcing a wheeze out of her whilst sending her skidding back, her teeth grit.

She didn't let it deter her, however, her arms blurrying before two booming claps thundered within the arena, followed by oncoming walls of wind barreling towards her opponent.

After kicking out at her opponent, Bonnie swerved back to what she was familiar with—namely, her chompers. Teeth bared, she moved to lunge in again.[break][break]
Only to be blown back by the scyther’s gusty attack. The mightyena rolled across the ground like a tumbleweed before dizzily jumping back to her feet.[break][break]
Then she was sprinting across the pitch, changing tack at the last moment to PLAY ROUGH with Kama, rather than bite down.

The scyther had a moment to appreciate her handy work, seeing the hyena bounce around the battlefield with a smug grin.

It was a brief moment though— before the canine was right back at her, tackling her to the floor with that impressive brute force it carried.

Kama cried out and thrashed about with her arms and legs, but it was hard to beat the mightyena at her own game—

And that was when Doug raised his arm in the air, grinning.

"Play hard, Kama!" He hooted cheerfully as the Z-energy enveloped Kama, granting her just enough force to move as she pleased, weight on her be damned.

So she began to spin about wildly, arms outstretched and wings flapping madly in place, her body quickly rising in the air as a tornado was generated around herself.

TL;DR:
Kama used her Z-move: Heaven Cleaver!

“Woah.” Blue watched with wide eyes as the scyther began to spin in a whirl of chaotic movement, easily throwing the mightyena to the side. The collection of energy around the other opponent was inevitable—even Blue knew something powerful was coming.[break][break]
“Watch yourself!” she called out to Bonnie, though there was really no telling if there was truly any way for her to avoid the onslaught of the u coming z-move.[break][break]
The mightyena’s paws dug into the pitch, claws sinking in as she tried to root herself in place, but the attack pulled her feet out from under her regardless and she whipped around, spinning from the sheer force of the gale of violent wind.[break][break]
The Tera crystals coating her fur rattled as she crouched and tried to weather the rest of it—waiting until the wind seemed to die down before she rose unsteadily and dove in with CRUNCHING jaws at one of Kama’s wings.

Nope, that was enough. "That's enough." Doug called out to the referee, raising a hand. "We surrender."

He jogged up to the center of the battlefield, his hand glowing as he began to heal the crunched up and torn wing immediately.

"Haah, this is it." He muttered to himself, the wound knitting together beneath his touch.

This was probably the reason his excitement for battling came and went. For every gem of a battle like the one with noah faber, there was another one like this. Accidents weren't uncommon in combat sports, but as a medic, he couldn't look past it like he had anymore.

"You good?" He asked a surly Kama, who responded by flapping her wings. He smiled. "You're good."

Returning her to her pokeball, he turned back to Blue and offered an apologetic smile.

"Sorry 'bout ending the fun early— Still, congrats on your victory. You two did wonderfully."
