As the bandaid changes hands, Benji smiles. “There he is!” he cajoles, and if he weren’t readily within punching distance, he likely would’ve chanced ducking in and out all fast like to ruffle the top of Elijah’s hair.[break][break]
He knew the tangela would win him over.[break][break]
Because Ben is smart, and knows his patients, he thinks to himself smugly. He is very well-practiced. Or he simply knows Elijah.[break][break]
Despite the effort to use his friend as an example to his pokemon, gogoat’s nerves have sadly not calmed. He frowns, and fishes a different pokeball from his bag. Marnie is still learning, after all. The oddish watches from the table, leafy fronds attempting to tickle at gogoat’s chin.[break][break]
The question gives him pause. He tosses a look Elijah’s way—an unspoken c’mon now, you know.[break][break]
And then Benji laughs. “I was awful at battling, easy as that.”[break][break]
His attention deviates back to what he was doing as he continues. The soft glow of the pokeball’s release reveals a floette atop a butter yellow bloom. “Something soft, Mimi, if you could.” The floette chimes and spins about the room. “But I dunno, even then, I think I liked mending things more.”[break][break]
Soon the soft lull of AROMATHERAPY permeates the air with the scent of warm chamomile. The second needle is ready on the table, but he’s not quite so assertive with the gogoat as he was with Elijah. Both hands open toward it, palms up in measured coaxing.[break][break]
In one, he brandishes a ripe pinap berry. An offering. “I mean, you don’t continue working as an apothecarist just because it’s your family trade.” Ben’s expression visibly softens as he keeps his attention fixed on gogoat. “You do it because you enjoy it, right? You like to mend and grow too, in your own way.” He glances over, smile wide, eyes crinkling at the corners.[break][break]
“I’m the same way. It just looks different.”

elijah takes the bandaid. the childish pattern is fouler than any blemish or scar—but deep down in the thornbush of his heart, he is touched by nostalgia's bud. there, he is reminded of his tangrowth's youth as a tangela with vines soft and swinging like some childhood swing.[break][break]
