humble as ever — or perhaps, it's just being dismissive — alexander silph pays no attention to her needling. still, it doesn't make the bemusement on her expression any less, enjoying teasing him as she does.

[break][break] "ready as ever," she said, stepping onto the sandy beach beside him. In her hands were the tools for their beach cleanup—a forked grabber that pincers when pressed on one side.

not wanting to admit that the only times he has ever picked up trash is either for charity or some sort of event that would bolster his public image.[break][break]

"it does seem a bit beneath me, doesn't it?"[break][break]

he plays along with her joke easily only to continue it by raising his forked grabber. it points at the sky, and as his squeezes the handle, the pinchers (oddly) refuse to close. he's actually just not squeezing hard enough.[break][break]

[break][break] with emphasis, her hand closes over his as she shows him how to open and closer the grabber, reaching for one of the crumpled pieces of paper on the sandy beach.

the closest comparison is to the hit television series downton abbey; six wonderful seasons that portray the life of a noble family, much like the devons were at one point in time.[break][break]

with a smile, he pinches the grabber all on his own, then drifts ahead to start collecting trash. they'd be here all day otherwise.[break][break]

[break][break] she pulls back from him, watching as he grabs the pincer and begins to do as he's told, cleaning up the trash along the beach. she follows after him, a little lackluster than before.

[break][break] but his words have a way of bringing the amusement back to her face again, for whatever reason that may be.
