The man's sudden and excited expression broke Zachary's focus. "Gahh!" Startled, Zachary accidentally sent his cards flying in the air, almost causing a mess. [break][break] However, Dizzy who was more focused-- uses his own Psychic Powers for 'another trick'. In mid air-- the cards glowed and froze in the air, looking even more amazing. Without even flinching or any gesture, the fox commanded the cards mid-air to gather back as they soon gathered and formed a perfect deck in front of Zachary again. Grateful, Zachary picked up the cards, to which the aura stopped, as did Dizzy's Psychic power. [break][break] Dizzy gave a happy bark, having the cards nicely returned. [break][break] Zachary looked up to the rather large and cheerful man. "Um... Thank you? " Zachary said, though the magic trick crack sounded like a challenge. He firmed his gaze at the man as he pocketed away his cards into his jacket. "No. I'm here to battle. Just waiting for a challenger to be assigned to me," Zachary said. [break][break] His gaze soon came to the adorable little Pawmot besides him. An odd choice for the big fellow but he looked pretty fiesty. Dizzy too looked at the electric mouse, reminding him of Raichu that Zachary had recently caught with their adventure with Josh Devlin. [break][break] He didn't know how to really engage with the man. He was much older-- much taller and a touch intimidating the way he looked. "I take it your a challenger here too. I'm sort of new to the whole trainers battling but I know my stuff," Zachary said, knowing that he would be randomly assigned soon enough to another trainer looking to battle too. [break][break]

The man's excitement caused Zachary to flinch again, making him a bit uneased. He was super eager to battle, and now had outright challenged Zachary to a match. THis... was likely to happen, perhaps but his sheer energy for it was a surprise. "I... Um..." he stammered, taking a touch off guard. Dizzy the fox just looked blankly at the stranger, silently voicing a judgemental opinion. [break][break] However, as he started--he turned to make a mocking statement of Zachary being afraid. Zachary frowned at that, more for such a challenge was rather rude, but effective. Zachary then stood up, Dizzy glancing at his trainer for his assertion. [break][break] "Fine. You're on. But don't underestimate me. I may not be the best battler, but I'll give you hell if you look down on me!" Zachary fired back, attempting to be assertive on the challenge. Dizzy gave an assertive bark too at Eduardo. [break][break] The two squared off challenging looks as Zachary gritted his fists tight. [break][break]

[break][break] Before long they had taken place in one of the free arenas, now well lit and prepared for battle. Zachary and Dizzy stood on the far side of the classic clear arena. People were in the stands, watching them, along with other battles going on. Zachary soon saw that the challenger Eduardo was there, looking as intimidating as he was before, including that big, broad grin he had on his face. He didn't know what to expect. He was the challenger, so it was likely he was going to pick the battle type to start with. After that, Zachary could respond and bring out more of his Pokemon. Dizzy too was rearing to go, his fur on end from the brawny adult. [break][break]

The overbearing presence of the big man made Zachary nervous. Luckily his jacket kept the chills low as he thought how he was going to respond to this. His request was a double battle of all things! Two pokemon, versus two pokemon. It was not something Zachary had done before in a formal battle so this was going to be a first for him. [break][break] Zachary nodded at the challenge, and gave it serious thought. He could tell by the Pawmot that he wasn't being included for the battle, but it showed that they were really thinking hard. Dizzy was patient as Zachary thought what to do. Zachary didn't want to be reckless either. Dizzy was his strongest, but he had to train his other Pokemon too. [break][break] Unsure who to choose, Zachary took out his Tarot cards once more. With a deep breath, he reached for the deck and drew out two cards.[break][break] [break][break] From the deck-- Zachary pulled two cards. The first, was a good sign. It showed the cartoonish depicture of The Fool -- showing the adorable Mime Jr, aka Happy. Then he flipped the second behind it-- revealing it to be the Heirophant. That one, showed a regal and wise picture of a Xatu, Zachary's Prophet. [break][break] With the cards in hand, Zachary turned to Dizzy. "Diz, let's give Happy and Prophet a crack at this. Do you mind?" he asked. [break][break] The Delphox gave a mild droop of his ears , almost mimicking the Pawmot a bit, but soon shook his head-- not minding. The fox knew that his other friends needed a shot. [break][break] Zachary put away the cards and soon took out his Pokeballs, containing the Roman numerals 0 and V on them. [break][break] "I invoke the guidance of the Fool and wisdom of the Hierophant..." he spoke, his little ritual for luck as he took out their pokeballs-- and tossed them high into the air. "Come-- Happy! Prophet!" [break][break] The two balls burst out light and they took shape on the ground! Before Edwardo, appeared Zachary's choice. His Mime Jr, Happy and his Xatu, Prophet. Both Pokemon gave happy cheers as they emerged, Happy being more gleeful and Prophet being more out of awareness. [break][break] They didn't look it, but the two got along well. They were among the first Pokemon Zachary had befriended and grew close to. They were his most reliable partners and both were skilled in ways that were difficult to predict. [break][break] Zachary looked to Edwardo with confidence, wondering what he was gonna pick. "Ready when you are!" Zachary called. He then turned to his Pokemon. "Happy, Prophet-- this will be a double battle, so that means we have to work together, okay? Can I count on you?" [break][break] Happy spun around to Zachary and give a happy cheer of a yes. He turned to Prophet, and raised a hand for almost a 'high five'. However, while accepting, Xatu was an odd bird. The enigmatic psychic bird looked to Happy with a neutral but warm gaze back. [break][break] On paper, they looked like a very odd matchup for a double battle... but looks could be deceiving. [break][break]

Eduardo soon called out his own Pokemon-- A Pangoro and Swampert! Both looked formidable as Zachary took a stance of alertness, feeling as if he too was facing them along with his pokemon. The bear did a little ritual of Bulking up, growing stronger. The Swampert however, took more action! Before Zachary knew it, a furry of rocks and earth came hurtling through the air , all while the big bear charged forward to attack! [break][break] Despite the fright-- Zachary didn't lose his composure or determination. Even while the bear rushed to get close, neither he or his pokemon would have it. "Happy, use REFLECT!" he cried. [break][break] Happy bounced around with joyous glee as the incoming bear charged-- but wouldn't get far as Happy pushed his little hands forward and they glowed. Out of nowhere a barrier of light shot up between them! The Pangoro would hit smack right into it as if it was glass-- and discover he was not going to get by it. By a happy coincidence, it would protect against Rock Slide as well. The wall was far reaching across the battlefield, preventing harm to both pokemon. The rocks would meet the wall, it flashing as the rocks would fall from it and crumble. [break][break] From behind the wall-- Happy gave a cheerful cry and smile at the big panda as if to say 'hello'. [break][break] Zachary smiled. Happy was one of Zachary's best pokemon and lovable friends. He could always count on the Mime Jr's mischief to help them out. Meanwhile, the Xatu, Prophet barely flinched as he looked ahead with unblinking eyes. Despite battle, the bird wasn't even uneasy or anxious. [break][break] It was now Prophet's turn as Zachary directed his attention to the patient bird. "Okay Prophet, time to show them all what you're capable of! Use Miracle Eye!" [break][break] Xatu's eyes soon widened as it looked to the Pangoro. Zachary knew enough that Pangoro was a dark type-- and a dark type was the worst to contend with as a Psychic trainer. But he was never without options. Prophet, had Miracle Eye allowing him to zero in on Dark Types, normally impossible. His eyes glowed with an eeree glow, showing his mystism of his vision. While doing no damage to it, it made them reachable to psychic power. [break][break] Zachary was not a blind battler. He had a creative mind, and strategic thinking. He knew how to leverage abilities in the right way and combine attacks. While it may not play out as he always hoped, he had faith that Happy and Xatu would make a reliable team. [break][break] "Didn't see that coming, did you?" Zachary commented with a smirk. [break][break]

It was hard not to act smug when you used your wits to get an edge in a Pokemon Battle. He could tell what a Dark Pokemon was and the risk to his own. He was grateful his wise Xatu had Miracle Eye-- giving him options to survive such encounters. Eduardo responded with a typical rebuttle, but Zachary didn't answer back, keeping focused on the battle. [break][break] The Reflect wall was a good start, but they didn't have the right plan for this just yet. It was then the Swampert did a big move-- and conjured SURF! A large wave crested up, attempting to swallow them all-- and too fast for Happy to use Light Screen to stop it. They looked in awe as the wave crept up! [break][break] "Hurry get out of there!" Zachary cried. Xatu didn't hesitate and with a flap of its wings, it ascended, getting clear of the tidal wave--- however Happy wasn't so lucky. The little Mime gave a sharp cry as he waved his little arms as the wave hit! [break][break] Happy was soon tossed around the water and soon emerged from the waves, looking like a pink rubber bath toy! Happy wagged his arms trying to keep above the water as he was thrown about on the battlefield. [break][break] Zachary looked up to Xatu. "Hurry Prophet! Get Happy out of there!" He instructed. The stoic-looking stare of the bird didn't hint any emotion, but soon the bird flew in! Barely flapping its wings, it glided-- or levitate perhaps-- over the water and soon used its talons to grasp hold of Happy! He Lifted the little Mime Jr. out from the water! [break][break] As the Xatu rose from the water, Happy sagged in its talons, a sigh of relief coming from the little mime as the water began to subside. Still, they were under attack and they had to act. [break][break] With that, Zachary took action! "Happy, use Helping Hand! Prophet-- Air Slash on Swampert!" He cried. [break][break] Seeing Prophet above him, Happy raised his little hands up towards the bird. His hands glowed with an aura, and soon it passed to the bird which held him. The energy flowed into Prophet, giving him a renewed boost of energy! With a single flap of his wings in the air-- Prophet launched a Cresent Blade of Air! The projectile slashed hard in the air, intending to hit the giant amphibian pokemon down below! [break][break] This was only the beginning of the battle, and Zachary trusted that this wouldn't be so easy to take out either of them-- even with the aid of Miracle eye! [break][break]

The super-enhanced Air Slash worked like a charm. However, it was so strong that it really did some damage. It made Zachary feel a bit bad. He wasn't trying to really hurt his challengers. He hoped the Swampert was okay with it all. But Zachary had a great set up for his team. Prophet acted as the offensive partner-- while Happy, being naturally a Mime Jr, offered support and protection. While capable of attacks of his own, it suited the Mime's own nature to being a friendly ball of cheer! [break][break] As the waters receded, it would allow them to land-- however it was when that Edwardo decided to do something clever! His Pangoro decided to use Seismic Toss -- using his own partner as a projectile?! All three of them looked in shock at that one! [break][break] The use of Reflect did some protection, as did the type difference, but still, carrying Happy, Prophet was not swift enough to evade it. The colliding Swampert struck the Xatu hard, knocking the bird out of the air and back to ground! [break][break] Happy landed with a small bounce, as Prophet fell over, having his feathers ruffled and bruised by the impact. If anything, pride was more wounded than the body, but still it did take a hit. Hearing Happy's cries of concern, the Xatu soon floated upright, getting onto its taloned feet. [break][break] Zachary glared at his opponents. Just like Happy and Xatu, Edwardo's Pokemon knew how to fight as a team, even with Zachary's quick wits and clever thinking. Luckily, he had plenty of tricks up his sleeve. [break][break] Zachary looked to Prophet. While still able to fight, his damage did take a beating between Surf and the Seismic Toss. [break][break] "Guess its time we get serious! " Zachary declared, and Happy too showed he was ready with an excited 'aye'. [break][break] "Prophet, use--" [break][break] Zzzzzzzzzzz.... Before he could even get the words out-- the Xatu had done something that was EXTREMELY RARE for a Xatu to do. It was asleep! Its eyes were closed and a little bubble formed at the tip of its beak. [break][break] Happy fell over from the sheer embarrassment to see his team member asleep. [break][break] "... Rest." Either Prophet did it on his own, or he read Zachary's mind to know exactly what he was about to say. The totem bird pokemon was now fast asleep, softly breathing in and out and his nose-bubble with it.[break][break] However, as he did sleep, his body glowed! His dirtied and messy feathers began to blend back into place again and any wounds began to vanish from his body. The violet psychic glow soothed his wounds in an instant while the bird slept. [break][break] The Mime Jr sighed-- seeing his 'teammate' now taking a nap. Whether a move or not-- it didn't exactly encourage confidence in Happy, as the Xatu did this pretty often. [break][break] Recovering from his embarrassment, Zachary helped Happy regain his focus. "Happy don't lower your guard! Cover him with Light Screen too!" Zachary urged. [break][break] The Mime Jr looked to his trainer and then took action. Hopping in front of the sleeping Prophet, Happy extended his arms out and wide-- projecting a shimmering wall of prismatic light! The wall mixed with the Reflect provides cover from all attacks! It was a smart move to protect Xatu while he slept. But in the end-- Zachary knew Prophet was a bird who never slept too long. [break][break] Though odd, the bird often had more of his psychic visions when he was asleep than he was when awake. [break][break]
