no other option. 

it always feels like their backs are against the wall. pressures come in from all sides and they must bare their fangs and fight tooth and claw out from their corner. it takes its toll. 

it takes their own.

the somber thought lay heavy on her shoulders, but it begins to lift when she reaches for the pokeballs at her belt. twin dragonair emerge at her beckoning, tails twined, and they raise themselves as they take in their surroundings. 

"then let's get started, mel."

aeris and sypha are two halves of a whole. freya looks between melody's chosen pokemon and rasps sharply and immediately in draconic to the two pokemon. light sparks off of aeris and a halo of white-blue fire folds over itself, twisting into water as she weaves through the air. 

ice races towards them, wanting to swallow, and ribbons of safeguarding light shrug off the worst of the cold. 

DANCE OF THE DRACONIDS

dragonair z-move

dragonair performs a dance, conjuring a barrier of water and infusing others with a protective aura. additionally, any water or dragon-type moves used by dragonair and nearby pokemon will have their power boosted.

water gushes away from aeris with one final flourish, lapping over sypha and leaving a gleaming sheen over her scales. a howling wind still makes them shudder and chips away at their energy, but the barrier of water holds true.

the stage is set. water and ice stand against each other. misty terrain stretches like a poison across the battlefield. freya's jaw clenches and she calls their target. 

dragon fire flows through the barrier, pluming, strengthened as it passes through. sypha darts forward to lash with an imbued dragon tail.

it's a paltry defense in the face of melody's behemoth lapras. the fae is a siren at the other end of the field, inhibiting her dragons' movements. both of them slow, leaving sypha wide open to the attack from the lapras. 

sypha convulses and then flutters back behind the barrier of water, tail flicking in frustration. she could continue, but that's not part of the plan. red light absorbs her and in her wake is a long-necked panther, electricity rippling off of it in waves. aeris tries to turn melody's ace against her - supersonic bleats from aeris' maw, tail rattling. 

hoping the lapras is disoriented, raging bolt takes their side of the field, eyes narrowing at its target: the primarina.

dragons are known for their ability to pummel through defenses, obliterate and destroy all that stands in their way, but melody's team is a nigh impenetrable barrier. there will come a time to hit her as hard as they possibly can, but for now freya must be patient. 

it's easier than it would have been years ago. 

draconic leaves her lips in a twisting snarl. aeris twirls, serpentine, and the springtide storm passes through the barrier of water and hits another, diminishing to a gale by the time it strikes the raging bolt. 

plexiglass walls waver and the light screen holds faster. aeris' tail glows with exertion. the raging bolt stands strong and, knowing that the lapras is unable to move, fires off a zap cannon. even if they can't do much damage, at least they can hinder it.

fae mist blossoms once again over the arena, turning the defensive water barrier a shade of pink, making her dragons recoil in outrage. the zap cannon hits true, but they have little cause to celebrate as both dragons are rent by the psychic screams complimenting melody's own voice.

they shudder through the pain, but they've weathered worse. and besides, dragons don't lick their wounds in the midst of combat.

maybe it's time to shed the patient visage and do what she does best. a snarling order is sent to the raging bolt. electricity crackles off of its pelt as it plunges through the water barrier on their side of the field. misty terrain shrinks back as electricity surges. 

it fights the wave tooth and nail and aeris twirls behind it, the ball on her tail crackling, feeding off of the energy from the raging bolt.

a thunderbolt arcs from behind it and towards the siren while raging bolt slams into lapras.

the siren duplicates. neither aeris nor her raging bolt have the capability to deal mass damage to their surroundings. with the addition of the sygna suit, freya knows neither of her current pokemon on the field are up to the task of taking down the fae. 

so they'll take down the lapras before they're inevitably taken down themselves. brute force is her specialty; if the lapras thinks they're going to dance away from the attack, it's going to be surprised. 

electricity still crackles at raging bolt's paws and when freya calls the order, its serpentine neck twists towards the body pressing lapras. pain shudders on the dragon's side, but it ignores it, sinking superpowered fangs into the lapras' exposed neck - rising voltage arcs up through the ground and to the stormcloud summoner's maw.

and still at its companion's side, aeris sparks a thunderbolt at the turtle pokemon.
