rays of sunlight poke through the trees overhead, a welcome sign. rain has been a constant companion these past couple of days, but here, with aeris beside her, she tries to put her worries out of mind.

"there are a few people in the league who collect some of these pokemon," she says as she stoops under a tree branch. aeris turns her head. "so don't go chasing them off before we find the cyclizar."

aeris hums gently and freya tilts her head. above them, a pachirisu nibbles on a mid-summer snack. berry juice brightens its otherwise pristine white paws and when it spies them watching, it pauses, tail twitching, and then it goes back to its lunch.

"hmm."

aeris drifts closer, noses the palm of freya's hand, and she smiles, thumbing the feathers on the side of her head.

the jingling of keys signals the arrival of their worst enemy. aeris stiffens, tongue forking from her maw, and in front of them on the path floats a set of toddler's keys. freya's eyes narrow.

aeris is quick on the draw, darting forward to take advantage of the klefki before it can react. shots fire; her scales smoke by the time she has it strangled on the ground.

freya frowns and taps a safari ball against it.

freya looks her dragonair over, wincing at the scales damaged by the fae. her partner seems more amused than anything at the obvious distaste and wraps her tail around freya's ankle lovingly, butting her head into her shoulder.

they meander back onto the path, giving a wide berth to a gaggle of klefki basking in the sunlight, and come upon a hill of sizzlipede.

freya reaches for a ball while aeris slithers through the undergrowth, tail lashing to snatch one of them away from the others before the rest even know what's hit them. the bug twitches from aeris' paralysis and freya withdraws it into a capsule.

"are we getting closer to them?" she asks and aeris lifts her head, tongue forking out from her maw. she turns in the opposite direction and freya follows suit. they're more likely to find the cyclizar in an open area where they have more room to roam unimpeded by the undergrowth.

but she stops with a yell when something large and heavy lands on her head. the dunsparce wriggles when she shoves it off of her; aeris tackles it. more of them worm around in the treetops and freya dances out of the way of more of them.

one more safari ball filled later and she asks aeris again, this time more impatiently: "are we getting closer?"

much to aeris' amusement, freya's impatience does not get her anywhere. the dragonair slithers over the ground as slowly as before, enjoying the sun on her back and the sounds of the forest.

freya ignores the keys that have grown interested in them and are following, giggling, at a steady pace.

her boot thuds against some scrap metal. the sleeping klink cries out and she nearly trips over aeris at the noise, but rights herself all the same and stalks onward, ignoring the dragonair's chuffing laughter.

up ahead, their quarry roams.

they're docile, as far as dragons go. several of them tumble over one another, nipping at shoulders and thighs. aeris scans the small herd and waits for freya.

when the draconid finds one - a bully with a bit more bite, she darts forward with purpose. a thunder wave sends some of them scattering, others tripping over numbed feet. her target turns on her, snarling, and freya simpers.

it puts up a good fight, but after an exchange of blows, aeris emerges victorious. she ruffles her feathers and freya throws her last safari ball.
