The cool summer air was far more pleasant now that night had fallen. The sky was black, allowing the stars and moon to shine freely there. Despite it being night, the path was not in any way unseeable. THough as they traveled-- they were lit by a very reliable Delphox. [break][break] Zachary was now in company of a few new faces. As usual, Dizzy the Delphox was his constant companion and partner. The tricky and clever Delphox kept their surroundings lit by his torch of a stick he lit with his magical powers. More important, Zachary had a new friend-- lam logan . [break][break] To Zachary's surprise, just like Josh Devlin , he too was a gym leader. Zachary really was coming to meet a lot of important figures on his journey, and all by coincidence. The guy was very friendly, and knowledgable. They had agreed to travel together a bit-- accompanied by his flock of Psyduck with him. [break][break] Further adding to the fun, Zachary kept a lot of his pokemon travel with him. He now had the company of a Hoothoot he named Nyx, riding on his shoulder. The little owl Pokemon was very friendly and social with his new trainer, and other humans whom she met. Lastly, was Happy the Mime Jr. Happy had gotten to know Lou's psyducks very well, often mimicking them which was adorable to watch too! [break][break] Though an odd time to travel, it wasn't by intent. As a Gym Leader, they had to take on assignments-- in this case to deal with 'dangerous pokemon' that had stalked the roads around Oakdale. As someone who wanted to be a Gym Leader himself, Zachary took up the job too along with Lam. So now, they were together once more. [break][break] Despite the setting, Zachary felt quite at ease to know he was with another amazing Gym Leader. "I hope me being here isn't a problem. We really didn't get much time to talk with... well the aquarium. But it was fun there while it lasted." Zachary said to the man, hoping he wasn't a burden to him being there. [break][break] All the while, Dizzy looked back at them every once in a while, hoping to be involved with his trainer and new friend.[break][break]

two psyduck in tow once again, lam wandered down the path that wound in and around oldale alongside zachary stellar. it wasn't often that he took night jobs, but this seemed to be a particularly difficult situation, and it was deemed helpful that some among his rank step in.[break][break]
not to mention he didn't mind the extra company.[break][break]
he had half a mind to razz Greyson Connors over text, though he knew the E4 member was busier with more time consuming things. but wasn't oldale his stomping grounds? or was it fallarbor?[break][break]
"hm?" lam pulled himself out of his absentminded thoughts when zachary spoke. he was quick to wave a hand in good humor. "oh, nah. it's all good. i'm happy to have extra hands on deck for this."[break][break]
Even if no wild dogs had turned up. not yet at least.[break][break]
more birds scouted from above, lam having sent them out when they'd first arrived. a talonflame, along with a shiny pidove - one of his top team members. but neither seemed to have anything to signal him toward. "been well since then?" he asked lightly, as he watched peaches engage in her usual game with happy. the second psyduck meanwhile worked up the nerve to join in. "it's quiet, though. i wonder if we came at the wrong time..."

As they talked, Dizzy got closer and gave a friendly bark-- prompting Zachary to pet the fox's head. The question made Zachary pause as he thought. "I had an... eventful encounter, and my first gym challenge. But all in all, doing my part. I want to apply to the minor leagues to become a Gym Leader myself but... I feel I have more growth to do. I had my share of both wins and losses," Zachary said as they walked. [break][break] It soon got darker, and Zachary was growing tired and hungry. There were still no signs of the 'beasts' they were meant to encounter. After a heavy sigh, Zachary turned to Lou. "Why don't we set up camp. I should show you some of my other Pokemon too?" Zachary offered. The Hoothoot on Zachary's shoulder gave a happy coo as she flapped her feathers, happy. [break][break] Finding a nice side of the road, Zachary and his friends set up a small camp. Though still with a job to do, they had to still eat and keep up their strength. Zachary and Dizzy easy set a fire, and with it, Zachary allows his other pokemon to appear. Among them beyond the Delphox, Hoothoot, and Mime Jr-- was Umbreon, Anubis, who kept guard like a loyal guardian. Lastly was an adorable little Meowstic who greeted Lou with an adorable 'meow'. [break][break] It was clear how much Zachary's pokemon loved him and were open to people, showing how well he raised them beyond just for battle. [break][break] "Hey lou, do you know Josh Devlin by chance? He and I become good friends and travel companions. I been working with him and trying to learn what kind of person a Gym Leader has to be. How do you feel about the position?" he asked. As they talked, Happy gave a happy little greeting to Lou's Psyduck, holding his little head as if it was some kind of mutual greeting. [break][break] Eager for 'lap time' , the Meowstic-- Salem hopped into Zachary's lap, to which Zachary petted the cat on his head and behind his sensitive ears, making the cat purr loudly. [break][break] As they talked though-- their evening wouldn't last long as the eyes of many red-eyed devils would be on them. Growls and soft barks would be heard in due time, as the camp was slowly attracting attention by some uncivil beasts...[break][break]

Lam shot him a thumbs up, “Nice! You’ll have more experience under your belt before you know it. As long as you're consistent, that experience will take you far if you want to move into this sort of work.” He could speak from experience–some days it still felt like he was learning more.[break][break]
“Sure! That sounds good. This seems like as good of a spot as any,” he replied, slinging down the bag of supplies he’d brought along. In the dark, the Hoothoot’s eyes glowed a bright shade of red. “And yeah– show me what team you’ve been working with! That Hoothoot is super cute.” Though his own Talonflame and pidove were still scouting areas around the town overhead, maybe he’d bring out some of his other, more common companions as well.[break][break]
For the most part, all of them fliers. Naturally.[break][break]
Lam could tell that Zachary had a close bond with his team–the devotion was obvious, and shone through in their demeanors as well. A good sign for a growing trainer, to be sure. It also made the gym leader feel that much more confident in the decision he’d been turning over in his head as of late; one in regard to the shy psyduck that continued to watch the younger man with avid interest. Slowly, it had begun to warm up to Zachary, and though Lam thought that he himself was particularly strong in building bonds with birds of all sorts, he wasn’t making the same progress.[break][break]
As they settled in, both Psyducks mirrored the Mime Jr’s silly greeting, their flippers pressed to their heads as they chattered with Happy. A few more of Lam’s regulars made appearances–a sparkly little shinx and his tried and true decidueye. The first pokemon that Lam had received, back when he was not much more than a squishy little rowlet. Along with his altaria, who he’d not brought that day.[break][break]
Artichoke watched the Hoothoot curiously, large orange eyes blinking at the smaller owl. Lam, meanwhile, scooped up the shinx and scratched his belly. Noodle, well, wiggled like a noodle–eager to run about and kick up sparks. At the mention of Josh, he nodded. “Sure do! I can still remember the match I first had with him when I was just starting out.” It’d been a fun one, all hyped up on the rush of racing. His head tilted curiously, “I really enjoy my job. A few years ago, I never would’ve figured myself doing this, but it’s fun, and pretty fulfilling.”[break][break]
He liked the sport of battle. Even more so the chance to instruct trainers, and mentor them when able. He frowned, though, as a rumbling sound crept through the dark. “You hear that?”
