[attr="class","text"] Lam couldn’t really claim to be a fish guy. In fact, he was rather the opposite. From an early age, he’d been wary of many aquatic pokemon, and many water-types in general—though he never really could pinpoint a reason as to why.[break][break]
Having grown up on Mele Mele, the irony of an island dweller’s aversion to this particular type wasn’t lost on him.[break][break]
But he’d never been averse to water itself, and it was something he was actively trying to, well, overcome. The gaggle of Psyduck he’d collected had helped with that—easing him into a sense of comfort with their avian ties, despite being flightless. He was also fond of his feraligatr, though she was also pointedly not a fish.[break][break]
Even if he still didn’t quite care for the beady-eyed stare that most fish sorts bore. It was unnerving especially as he walked down the long corridor of the aquarium. He’d brought along Peaches, who waddled just behind him along with a second Psyduck he’d recently come into possession of. It was much shyer, and he’d been hoping that the more outgoing psyduck would coax it out of its shell.[break][break]
If anything, at least, both psyducks seemed to be enjoying the sight of colorful aquatic pokemon twirling through the tank in bright, aquamarine water. Lam, meanwhile, was convinced each and every one was staring at him with murderous intent.[break][break]
They hadn’t just come here to observe, though. They actually had a task. Some displaced Pokémon in Lilycove’s waters needed safe rehabilitation. Even Lam could aside his irrational fears to assist that sort of bid for help. The Pokémon in question were tucked safely away inside pokeballs, anyway.[break][break]
With a tilt of his head, he nodded at the Psyduck and they wandered away from a particularly colorful display of corsola, toward the directory. Someone was already there, and Lam glanced in the young man’s direction sidelong. “Wouldn't happen to know where on here the rehabilitation drop off is, would you?”

Recovery came somewhat easier as the SANDSTORM surged across the pitch. Distracted by the buffeting winds, the sandslash focused upon its defenses instead–allowing Ladon the breather he needed.[break][break]
Just enough to gain the fortitude to launch into the sky, higher than a simple hover.[break][break]
“Follow the current!” Lam chimed, pleased with the flygon’s efforts thus far. Of course, it was still too early to predict the end. They’d only just begun, after all.[break][break]
At home in the gritty silt and storm, Ladon cut through air with ease. The soft glow of the Alolan Sandslash’s SWORDS DANCE cast itself through the torrent, and the dragon dove toward the light– arms outstretched as it sought to grapple and hurl his opponent with impressive SUPER POWER.

“Good job! Let the last of that agility carry you!” The maintained their lead, but another quick glance back over their shoulder revealed the fact that they hadn’t managed to put much between themselves and Gwyar Wledig. “Just keep it steady, we can outlast ‘em.” Or that was the hope, anyway.[break][break]

The downward trajectory prompted him to suck as much air into his lungs as he could. If anything, holding the lead would allow the cushion to figure out the obstacle without much stress. The feraligatr shot into the tunnel with confident ease — something that quickly dwindled as the walls tightened and narrowed.[break][break]

Pepper’s bulk made it difficult endeavor, and Lam tucked himself as flat as he could against her broad, scaly back. Awkwardly, he patted at her side to slow up just enough to wiggle through the tight space before the sharp upward jut sent them shooting upward toward the surface again.[break][break]

They shot out of the tunnel’s end like being launched out of a cannon. His lungs dragged in air only to devolve into a startled yelp as they temporarily remained arial. Holding on for dear life as Pepper twisted and angled in the air, her legs peddling at nothing. Lam winced, hanging on for dear life as he hoped she stuck the landing.

[attr="class","text"] "I know what you mean," Lam replies easily as he waits for the challengers to finish gathering themselves. "It's easy to forget how consistent the ocean is in a place like Slateport, where everything's moving all the time."[break][break]

His nose wrinkles, "And the pollution doesn't help too, yeah."[break][break]

He moves across the court, taking to his side with practiced ease. A clefairy soon joins the psyduck, the tips of her ears a bright emerald. The pair of them look pint-sized as a matching nidoking and queen take the opposite end. But these two have never lacked for moxie. Especially Peaches, who takes the foreground and flexes her arms (nevermind the plap plap plap her webbed feet make against the sandy turf.)[break][break]

"A natural pair!" Lam chimes as he eyes the two dual-types, "hope they gel well!" The nidoqueen in particular looks like a seasoned fighter - but there's wisdom in Tsubaki's words. Any match can be like the first, especially if one isn't used to a new teammate.[break][break]

No two outcomes exactly the same.[break][break]

Cleo totters up alongside the psyduck, small paws clapping together. The soft glow of an added boon alights around the clefairy's teammate - her FRIEND GUARD shoring up defenses so long as she is there to provide her loyalty.[break][break]

Both take up a fighting stance against the much larger set of nidos - likely a bit of a humorous sight. Neither spring into action just yet, though. Lam looks across the pitch to the two challengers, flashing a thumbs up. "First move's all yours."

Butternut cawed as the MOONBLAST propelled him back. Though the attack itself did little damage to his hefty, steel-clad wings, it still served to push him away from the action itself.[break][break]

And with his flygon still uprooting the earth below, it allowed for a gap between offensives.[break][break]

"Nice coordination!" he called as the aggron threw up a defense so that it could properly catch the aerial gardevoir. Especially for something on the fly.[break][break]

"Again, Ladon!" The flygon's tail lashed in understanding, and the ground began to rumble again with the tremors of a second EARTHQUAKE.[break][break]

His corviknight wouldn't be pushed from the fight again so easily. High in the air, his talons gleamed in the light with a metallic sheen. He slashed them, HONED CLAWS preparing an attack as he circled - waiting for the right moment to dive.

"I'll allow it!" Lam chimed in response to Josh's surprise when Andrea's sygna suit activated it. He hadn't specified otherwise, so it was fine. It was good, quick thinking in his opinion. "Gotta say I'm jealous, though!" It was a slick suit, after all, and he hadn't managed to get his hands on one just yet.[break][break]

It provided a nice buffer too - keeping them safe with an added layer of protection against Egg's attacks. The togekiss trilled in annoyance and then pain as the hydra darted forward, fiery fangs sinking into the soft padding of her wing.[break][break]

But that didn't mean she was down for the count! Tilted in the air, Egg release of a pulsing AURA SPHERE using the radial thrum to repel them apart from one another, away from Chomper's effective chomping.[break][break]

The BUG BUZZ definitely made its mark too. Alto shook his head as the shrill sound combatted his own super sonic attacks. Addled, the noivern lashed out - diving toward the flygon with a maw opened to bite down with SUPER FANGS. If he managed to make contact, that was.

[attr="class","text"]The moment unravels in a way Lam thought it might—deep down. Despite their best efforts, MATIAS SILPH rises to meet his patron. Unable to disengage from the sway it holds.[break][break]

Standing alongside Virizion, and the rest, he can only watch as Eva Morales’s efforts are for naught. The mount rumbles with the incessant warning of eruption, even while the FALSE SUN bleeds and sinks from its place on high.[break][break]

And then surprise writes itself across his expression as Solgaleo snatches Matias from the air and pulls him from sight. “Did that-?” the voice that cuts through the static of their comms interrupts his words and Lam falls silent, listening to the directive. Much as he’d like to follow, he leaves it to kyle lopez. More than likely, he’s better equipped to handle whatever lingering volatility remains. The same can be said of Rauquaza’s continued efforts against Groudon.[break][break]

He looks to virizion again, and nods. “Thanks.” He lifts a hand to rest against the flat of its head for a moment and then both turn to assist mitigating the damage. Thanks to the sword, he’ll be getting home unscathed tonight. All of them will. He can only hope the same can be said for Matias.[break][break]

More STONE EDGES erupt from the earth to help channel the flow of the lava in a bid to deflect it from the towns below.

As they bob around the smattering of floating corsola, Lam’s eyes dart ahead to see the mantine surfer catch air. The drift pulls them, and they land with just enough width that Lam tucks forward and spurs Pepper on with an enthusiastic Now![break][break]

The feraligatr lets out a gurgling bellow, wide mouth swallowing saltwater as she darts forward to overtake them with the gap she is given. A glance back over his shoulder tells him that it’s unwise to rest on their laurels just yet. The imposing figure cut by Gwyar Wledig on his honedge as they slice through the current is one that creeps up behind— hot on the gator’s lashing tail as she steers the bulk of her body to keep her pushing through the surf with as little resistance as possible.[break][break]

Then the wind shifts.[break][break]

It blows salty air through his wet hair, and Lam lets out another enthusiastic whoop. He sits up a bit higher, eyeballing the easy curve that they are about to bend into. “Now’s the time to put some distance up—it’ll give us more wiggle room later!”[break][break]

His fingers curl around one of her larger spines, “Use that agility of yours, Peps!” Psychic glow lights along her seafoam scales, even under the water as the feraligatr taps into a force of AGILITY, and despite her bulky body, she picks up speed as she nimbly arcs with the curve to cut through the resistance of the wind shift.
