Ultra Megalopolis - Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon

A RUINED CITY IN ULTRA SPACE. It is unclear whether this is a different universe's Ultra Megalopolis or smaller colony. Regardless, it is a dark city with intermittent sections of flickering, artificial light... Large, black prism-like skyscrapers loom above flat black streets. Much ruin has fallen here, but you get the sense that you're not alone...

[attr="class","textbody"] "Find anything?" Ollie turned to his friend, showing a pamphlet that he had found hidden inside one of the desks. They were in the center of Megalopolis Tower, as far up as Ollie had ever been on his own, except this time with lam logan.

[break][break] He would have asked Yuina Higashi to come with him again, but she was tangled up with work, and besides — he expected today's investigation to be more dangerous than last time. And the last thing he wanted was for her to get in trouble on his behalf.

[break][break] They'd been sifting through the classroom for a while now and rather than come across anything concrete, all he could find was the same weird technology that he had seen last time — calculators with weird symbols on it, tablets that flickered with some password-locked mechanism, and pens that looked more like puzzle-boxes than they did actual pens.

[break][break] "Oh wait!" he said, seemingly finding something hidden beneath a stack of books. It was dusty, but when he blew at the scroll, it revealed a small drawing. "Oh hey... this is kind of cute."

[break][break] It was a depiction of a strange-looking pokemon that looked like a CETODDLE except entirely pitch-black, with weird markings on it. He handed it over.

This trip is proving to be far less hectic than his last visit here. Not that Lam really expects it to stay that way, but you know what? He'll take it while he can and be grateful that nothing has jumped out at him just yet.[break][break]
"Ohh I don't think so.." he looks up to see the leaflet Ollie holds out, but it's all sort of nonsense to him. "Maybe we should've brought a translator..." Granted, Lam doesn't exactly know any translator.[break][break]
"Does any of this stuff even work?" He holds up a weird sort of remote...thing. But even when he presses the buttons, nothing happens. It doesn't even light up.[break][break]
Bummer times.[break][break]
When Ollie pipes up again, Lam wanders over, perking up. "Aww, yeah...who knew these Megalopowhatsits could make such cute drawings." It does look sort of familiar though. His face scrunches up in through.[break][break]
"It kinda looks like the ultra beasts I've seen in some reports. Or, well, described, anyway. But, like, mini??"

[break][break] The Head Ranger reaches over to take the remote from lam logan's hands, pressing experimentally. Just as it had worked for the Lilycove Gym Leader... nothing happened. Ollie waited, staring out into the silence of the room, for something to happen. Anything. The crackle of a TV, the sliding of a secret room. None.

[break][break] "Huh. Maybe it's bugged." Or maybe they just needed some secret code to unlock it. "We should take this back anyway. Maybe Illie or Eva can figure it out." If there were anyone who could, it would certainly be the two League scientists. Surely. Right?

[break][break] After lam logan responds to the flyer and explains that it looks like some of the ultra beasts that had been documented, that's when the light bulb clicked.

[break][break] "Oh! Good point. I guess I haven't really taken a look at them." The only one that he had himself was Reeses... and man did that guy eat. "Hey, do you think -"

[break][break] But before he could utter another word, an ominous sound reverberated through the chamber. A sudden shiver crept up his spine, just as his eyes snapped back toward the windows. Glowing in the shadows were pairs of unsettling, beady red eyes. Could that be—

[break][break] "Lam. Tell me if I'm crazy." His voice was low, cautious, like he saw a prowling Pyroar. "... Do you see that?"

Lam’s face screws up in a show of exaggerated thought– “No… I don’t.” But there must be some within the League, right? Surely?? He’s definitely no good at it himself, though.[break][break]
Lam passes off the remote to let Ollie mess with it. Eyes eager as he watches the head ranger, as if he expects him to know some secret trick to unlocking the functionality of the thing. But just like with him, the remote does nothing.[break][break]
His shoulders sag, “Aww..” He’s quick to nod, though, and takes it back so that he can stick the device in his knapsack. “yeah, that’s a good idea. Wonder if there’s any more in here that’ll fit in my bag…”[break]break]
Trailing off, he moves to rummage in another cupboard. He glances back when Ollie speaks up again. “Yeah, I mean, it’d make sense if those things were like…babies too, right?” But then Ollie goes quiet and Lam frowns. “What is it?”[break][break]
Slowly, his hands come down from where they’d been stretched out. Going still as the sound reverberates through the mostly empty room. “Um…” he turns, eyes wide as he looks over to where the other indicates.[break][break]
“No, yeah, I see it. You see it? We should- we should go,” Lam babbles, inching slowly toward his friend. “It doesn’t look right.”[break][break]
And then the pyroar’s jaws unhinge to release a SHADOW BOLT of dark energy their way.

[break][break] "Watch out!"

[break][break] Ollie leaps, aiming to slap lam logan down before the SHADOW BOLT can hit, cutting through the air and slamming into the nearby furniture. It cracks the table in two, slicing through the slab of metal like it's just a stick of butter

[break][break] His eyes shift towards the sight of the lethal Pyroar that is quickly inching their way, mouth parted in a snarl. A shudder passes through him as he's reminded of Cillian Quinn. He shakes his head.

[break][break] "You're right," he said, scrambling to his feet. "We really do need to go."

[break][break] Reaching into his belt, he calls for aid from his Dragonite.

[break][break] "Stache! Put up a shield!"

[break][break] A SAFEGUARD glimmers between them as Ollie attempts to run out of the room, throwing out a door so that lam logan can go through before he follows. They break into a hallway, which seems just as much of a dark, confusing maze as the rest of this place.

[break][break] Across the long stretch of hallway, however, there is a door. The Head Ranger's eyes lock into it before he's sprinting down the corridor in an attempt to wretch it open. But it's locked. No such luck.

[break][break] Fuck.

[break][break] His eyes glimpse a mechanical pad along the side of it and he presses his palm against it, haphazardly looking behind them just to make sure that the Pyroar isn't following. Is it just him or do the walls feel like they're closing in on him? God, he's getting claustrophobic.

[break][break] 'Chaa!'

[break][break] Tofu is smarter than him, though. Quick to come to his trainer's aid, the Pikachu lets out an electric bolt that seems to stir the panel to life, causing technicolor lights to glimmer across it's prismatic screen.

[break][break] The door slides open, revealing another stairwell.

[break][break] "Oh thank god. Come on, Lam!"

ollie morales bowls into him and the two tumble. But Lam will take the impact and the loss of breath any day over the smoldering remains of the desk left behind in the wake of the pyroar’s attack. “Oh, shit,” he yelps, and like Ollie, scrambles up so that they can start booking it outta there.[break][break]
It’s just a matter of getting out into the hall and down the stairs fast enough.[break][break]
At the same time as the head ranger’s dragonite flies loose, Lam is similarly drawing out his pidove. A click on his tera orb and Poppy is quickly encased in bright light. The shimmer of DRAGON TERASTALIZATION sending her hurtling forward—emboldened by Pistachio’s SAFEGUARD.[break][break]
“Fall back fast, Pops,” he calls out as they duck out the door and begin making their escape. He trusts the little bird to obey, and to not get too in over her head.[break][break]
With a might cheep cheeping, the pidove barrels toward the pyroar with a mighty DRAGON HAMMER before looping back and sailing out through the doorway, above all of their heads.[break][break]
The shadowed feline howls as its pushed back, but Lam isn’t wasting any time lingering to see if it was taken out of commission.[break][break]
“Smart mouse!” he chimes as Ollie’s pikachu manages to get the door open. “Can he shut it too?” He glances up to see the pyroar bolting through the door and turning down the hall. “Better hustle!”

[break][break] Ollie looks briefly at Tofu, who shoots him an annoyed glare, before he sees that Shadow Pyroar up again, hurtling it's way towards the open door. Oh shoot. Oh fuck. Ollie slams his hand against the prismatic mirror, which somehow manages to be the magical key, cause all he can hear is a loud thud as the pokemon slams against the glass.

[break][break] The Head Ranger can only breathe a loud sigh of relief, before glancing at Lam and then buckling over in laughter.

[break][break] "Arceus. Lam, that was fucking crazy."

[break][break] Why the hell were they were here again? Oh - yeah - research.

[break][break] Arceus, Ollie wasn't built for this. But with the threat gone - at least for the moment - the Head Ranger can take a more casual gait as he leads the way through the rest of the corridor, squinting as he watches the floor glisten with what appears to be Z-Crystals. Except they're tiny and black, and look just a little bit poisonous, so the Ranger inside of him advises that it probably wouldn't be a good idea to pick them up.

Well, hopefully they’d found something of use before they got run out of that section of the building. He peeks down into his backpack, but the jumbled items inside don’t make that much sense to him. At least they’d tried. Poppy settles on his shoulder again, still sparkling with terastral light.[break][break]
“Good job out there,” he pokes her normally downy chest, currently hardened with blue crystal.[break][break]
He looks up again when Ollie flags him, “Hm? Whatcha got?” His head tilts as he takes in the sight of the jumpsuits and then he smiles. “Oh, hell yeah. We’re going incognito the rest of the way out of here.”[break][break]

[break][break] It's almost comical the way that the Head Ranger and Lilycove's Gym Leader hop around in their new jumpsuits, trying to get in it. Ollie is honestly impressed that this thing fits him. Maybe there were some pretty big aliens in this weird world.

[break][break] "Too bad we don't have make-up or anything, I think we would've looked killer with some blue faces too."

[break][break] Ollie grinned, hoping it was convincing enough, and then once they were ready — he sprinted towards the next staircase. Better get out of the way before some other strange creatures came upon them, after all!

[break][break] So distracted, he would notice until later the small guy that sneaks into his knapsack — an oddly accurate rendition of that picture that he'd shown lam logan at the start of the mission.

maybe. probably not. he's not 'weird alien' enough. maybe if he had blue skin, he could reevaluate.[break][break]
lam bends down and grabs his knapsack again to sling over his shoulders. "nothing left to do but test how legit this is." he laughs again and takes off after ollie morales - hoping they make it down to the bottom of the tower without any more issues.[break][break]
maybe he could scare Ikarus Rook with the idea of an alien imposter later, if he really commits to the bit.[break][break]
