They’re great company, even if they’re a bit panicky.” At the suggestion, Peaches let out an indignant PSY in protest. Lam was quick to amend– “Okay, okay, so Peaches isn’t panicky.” She was a sassy little duck, though, but saying as much would earn him more attitude.[break][break]

The other one, though…that psyduck was far shyer and anxious. “You a fan of psychic types, then?” he asked, watching as Peaches nudged the other one forward–encouraging it to greet both the young man and his mime jr. She herself blinked in confusion at the little, pink pokemon, a webbed paw reaching out to poke at its forehead when it mimicked their mannerisms. “They’re great–I’ve got Peaches here suited up with psychic tera typing. It’s a useful trick in battles.”[break][break]
Despite its shyness, the psyduck peered at the strangers with a degree of curiosity. Though it still remained partially hidden behind Lam’s legs, paws still pressed to its noggin. Lam, on the other hand, smiled at their newfound company. “That’d be helpful! I don’t come here too often.” He stuck a hand out, “I’m Lam.”

[attr="class","text"] It was comfortable like this–huddled together in the simple quiet of their home. Finding some sort of contact in any way, shape, or form, no matter how simple it was. If this was what life was, he was happy with it. Would choose it a hundred times over.[break][break]
“Hm?” His glance shifted away from the soft pink of scarred, but new skin. Maybe it’d be better to not get caught out dwelling again. “Oh, I mean..” Lam leaned forward squinting at the color swatches through the lens of his glasses. “I think it’s not clashing, at least,” he decided as he looked at Rook again, “If you’re not sure, though, maybe it’s not the right one. Plus, I’m not sure if I’m sold on pale blue.” His head tilted in thought, and idly, he pushed the color away so that he could drag a new one to make a new set.[break][break]
He made a querying sound in the back of his throat, looking to Rook for approval. Then shrugged just as quickly. “I think as long as nothing is orange, it’ll be good.” Even if their suits were the ugliest shade of blood orange, it wouldn’t matter in the end. Of course it wouldn’t. Because they’d be together. He had half a mind to ask Rook if they shouldn’t just go down to the town hall.[break][break]
Quick, easy, efficient. A very Lam suggestion, admittedly. But there was also something sort of fun in planning out all the pomp with Rook. Being able to do this together. “Yeah, I’m ready to goooo.” He nodded, far more enthusiastic for the prospect of cake than colors.[break][break]
“You think so?” He perked at the encouragement. Lam held his hands up, fingers forming L-shapes so that when he twisted them together they made a window for him to squint though, expression twisting up as he poked his tongue out playfully. He turned the makeshift viewfinder on his boyfri– fiance. “Picture it, a little Rook pidove topper, and a little Lam pidove to go with it. I can see it.” His nose wrinkled up, and he grinned.[break][break]
Moving for the door, he pulled his shoes on. Peaches was lazing in the sun on the floor by the glass door to the backyard up. Lam hoisted her bulky body up, cheek rubbing against her head affectionately. “C’mon, time for a walk.” The psyduck let out a series of grumbly psy yais, but complied and waddled to the door expectantly as if he and Rook were the ones taking too long.[break][break]
Honestly, Lam could understand, because…well, cake.

It’s unfortunate that he hasn’t managed to get his hands on a dynamax band, or even stellar typing—but alas, they had to work with what they had.[break][break]
“Can do.” His gaze tilts skyward, squinting through the ocean spray as his pidgeot circled back. He could continue to utilize Hermes for this, but instead, the bird is summoned back to his ball in a beam of light.[break][break]
It’s better, he thinks, if he uses one of his aces for this.[break][break]
Mallow breaks from her ball in a swirl of downy feathers and glowing light. That aura casting off with a greater brightness in the gloomy overhang of the stormy weather as the keystone embedded in the side of Lam’s flight goggles activates and kicks the altaria into mega evolution.[break][break]
Buoyant on a cloud of her own crisp, white wings, Mallow circles over Kyogre with a sort of lazy ease in her glide that hides her actual, sharp focus.

“Nice shot, buddy!” As hoped, the noxious goop landed and spattered against the Indeedee’s fur. There was a little guilt, if only because it’d probably be a pain to clean off both psychic Pokémon later, but instead of mentioning as much, Lam stooped down to receive the excitable Jam Jam with open arms as he turned and darted back with that funny, crooked run of his.[break][break]
He grinned, scooping up the zigzagoon and holding him aloft with both hands for a moment as his fuzzy body wiggled in excitement.[break][break]
Then Lam tucked him in his arms and moved forward to meet Hideo in the middle. “Thanks! You did great too.” Definitely a fun challenge for the books. Tired from the match, Jam Jam lazed contentedly in the fold of Lam’s arm as he scratched at the lil guy’s ears.[break][break]
The question gave him pause, and his head tilted in consideration. “Hmmm, I’m not sure! There's always room for improvement—maybe used a partner for this guy that he’s more used to working with.” Jam Jam himself was clearly unbothered, nibbling at Lam’s fingers playfully.[break][break]
“No way to change what’s already happened, though, y’know?” Que cera cera, and all that, right? The only thing to do would be to take what he learned and improve as they continued on.

“Woah!” If he hadn’t had any idea that the gap he’d had was rapidly diminishing, the wave caused by the impact of Jack Napier’s mantine landing in the water again certainly cued Lam into that fact. The crash rocked against Pepper’s sturdy body as she tried to slice through the force with as much momentum as she could muster. “Hang in there, they’re closing’ in,” he said as he looked back over his shoulder. Really, he probably shouldn’t have bothered, lest doing so got into his head and psyched him out.[break][break]

Just as quickly, Lam turned forward again, a hand rising to wipe some of the water from his goggles. “Best to keep ahead while we can, I don’t think this straightaway is gonna be nice for long.” Once they were past the current pushed out by their competition, the feraligatr continued to cut through the water—determined to keep just ahead of the rest in the hope to avoid the worst of the bottlenecking as the course began to narrow more and more. If there was anything that was gonna hinder their position, it was a collision!
