Hawkins sits on a bench, reading a smuggled newspaper. His indeedee stands by his side, still as a statue. His komala curls around his neck, having long found its forever tree.[break][break]

It would have continued being a pleasant reprieve had a certain smell on the artificial breeze not made all three of them wince in unison—even the sleeping marsupial.[break][break]

With some minor resignation it only takes a minute for them to amble through the Rocket HQ courtyard until they locate its familiar, homeless source.

A dog bleeds in the courtyard. War preparations near their crescendo. Soon, the god general will march them all off to war. People will die. Whether they will be good deaths or not isn’t for him to say. Some of the troopers grow zealous in their prep.[break][break]
That is how he came to be injured. Once again, he allowed himself to be cut as he moved in to obtain victory. People flinch from pain, but not this dog. He understands pain is to be expected in a fight. He wins, but it is never a clean win – not with his fellow grunts.[break][break]
“Yo, Doc!” He looks up from where he bleeds, grinning. “Good lookin’ out. Yer way better at this than I am!” In his hand is thread. All he’s ever known how to do is kill, but he wants to turn his knowledge of anatomy to better purpose. So, he practices on his own wounds. The gash up his left arm won’t be anything serious, so long as it’s treated properly. “Yer hand’s so steady when ya do this. Hard not to flinch every time I stick it through…”[break][break]
