Exhaustion does not become her. She feels a zombie, a dead woman walking. Though, no matter how tired she may be, she dare not let it show on her face.

She returns to the Underboss's office, bruises and cuts all over her body all she has to show from her efforts -- two duels, and a daring escape from a member of the Elite Four's prison cell.

She'd been sent to assassinate him, however.

"Yo, Harbie. Long time no see."

She greets Cillian Quinn with a wide smile.

She was not a defector. There was sick sense of pride in that. The man had likely thought she was. That, or dead, considering the length of her absence. But Navy had refused to kill her. Instead, he had locked her up, til an assault on Dewford had led to a jailbreak.

And so she had returned.

"Brought ya somethin' nice. Found it on the way-- you'll have to excuse me if there's some missing."

She places a bottle on the table, so large it obscures her face from where he's sitting. A gigantic, oversized bottle of sake -- 8 lbs give or take, to make up for the weight of the head she was sent to claim.

That was what he'd have to settle for. An Elite Four member's head was loath to part from its body.

She'd failed in her assigned mission, but he'd expected her to. Thing was, he'd expected she wouldn't come back. Perhaps Navy wouldn't have killed her, noble fool that he was, but prison wasn't off the table.[break][break]

Aoki Hana bears the scars of her trial, however, and her unerring confidence seems unshaken by it.[break][break]

He ignores the sake, only shifting it aside so he might pierce her with his gaze.[break][break]

"Yep, still kickin'!"

The woman doesn't share his dour mood. If anything, she seems more energetic than she was when she left to kill Navy . She cheerfully begins to pour two saucers of sake, sliding one towards the underboss.

"And to that I say... banzai!"

She drinks, leaning on the edge of his desk. Only when she sets the saucer down does she respond to his order: a report of where she's been the last month.

"... Dewford's trashed, though I'm sure you've heard of that little escapade. Wasn't sure if it was you who sent Fox, but I'll venture out on a limb and say 'no', since you're so surprised to see me. Pity, thought I'd grown on ya!"

She smirks, recounting the events of howard slayte 's assault on Dewford. She spares the details about Regice. Surely the Harbinger will get more info on that than she could ever offer, probably from the man himself.

"Buncha our guys stormed Dewford, busted me outta the sheriff's cell. Fought the sheriff, twice. But he got the better of me the second time 'round, and locked me up. Kept me like his little pet. Made me wanna rip his heart out and feed it to him, I'll be honest...

"More sake?"

She turns, and begins pouring another saucer full of sake for herself.

Her chipper mood only aggravates Cillian further. Had he reported to the office of an underboss with news of his failure, he'd have been trembling with fear. He doesn't need her to quake in her boots, but he'd prefer if she wasn't so fucking pleased with herself.[break][break]

He makes no attempts to disguise his disgust, and ignores the sake as she pours it.[break][break]

A slight arch of his brow is the only reaction to news of howard slayte's involvement. He's not displeased; if anything, it's reassuring to know that the Admin had taken a stand against Navidson's city. It helps to settle some of his doubts about his colleague.[break][break]

He glances pointedly at his still-full cup and shakes his head.[break][break]

"No." Cillian suppresses a sigh. He hadn't expected her to return, but she had. Scars to show for her attempt on the sheriff's life. She was braver than half the grunts in Rocket. "I'll give your name to SPECTRA, so long as you swear to take him down some day. He's no easy opponent."

She responds with a curt smile, downing her second cup of sake.

"You're tellin' me."

She looks up at the ceiling for a bit, heady from the booze given to her by the Dog. The burning in her throat makes her a little braver than she may like, but even then, she recognizes that her lack of decorum is at the Harbinger's discretion.

Say the word and she'd find herself in another cell for insubordination, failure to carry out orders, getting captured, defecting, any number of excuses-- and that cell wouldn't be some office with bars installed on one end of the room. No, it'd be some deep, dark isolation cell, impossible to get out of.

"Love nothin' more than to bring you that man's head. You got my word on that, whatever it takes. But... strikes me as odd, you'd put my name forward for a failure.

"You got a personal stake in seeing him dead?"

Cillian laughs. It's not a sound of warmth or joy, scraping hard against a throat made rough from years of smoking. He shakes his head slowly, pinning her with his gaze.[break][break]

"Our top agents haven't managed to bring Navidson down." He doesn't count himself among them, for he had succeeded once, but that stubborn fucker had come back from the dead. Now that damned dog was on his side, a second victory was harder to seal. "I didn't expect you'd succeed where they failed."[break][break]

He'll let a small silence stretch if she does, allowing her to realise it had been a suicide mission. Honestly, he'd at first expected she might get cold feet and come crawling back.[break][break]

She hadn't, which meant she was either extremely brave, stupid, or both.[break][break]

"But I didn't expect you'd come back, either. Takes balls you'll need to run with SPECTRA."[break][break]

He doesn't answer her question. His beef with Navy is between the two of them.

She laughs incredulously at that, and downs another cup of sake, setting it down sharply before the man upside-down and drained of its contents.

"You don't show it, but you've got a hell of a sense of humor, don't'cha, eh, Harbie?"

She smiles. No hard feelings.

"I'll do ya proud, don't you worry. Things'll change. Amount of 'balls' SPECTRA'll have at its disposal are about to double overnight, I'd imagine.

"So, you put my name forward... what next?"

She takes it well. Cillian thinks he'd be livid, in her position.[break][break]

She mentions his sense of humour, too, which he's surprised to have acknowledged. Most people think him a dour, serious individual without laughter. He doesn't discourage the characterization.[break][break]

But she sees through to his dark amusement, so he says flatly, "A midnight RITUAL. Human sacrifice."[break][break]

Then he shakes his head. "Typically we'd ask for some grand show of loyalty or a test of skills, but I think surviving Navidson is proof enough of both. You're welcome to throw yourself at one of Clayton's trials for fun, but I don't think it's necessary."[break][break]

And it took a certain type of person, one like Cillian himself, to find Oscar's trials fun.

"Clayton, huh?"

She'll remember that. She's always up for a challenge.

"Well, alright!"

Hana places her hands on her hips, resisting the urge to jokingly quip, 'that was easy!'. The underboss's sense of humor was... drier than most, and she had to be careful.

"SPECTRA's resources'll be a great help, puttin' Navidson in the ground, I'm sure. You'll have his head yet, I promise."

She winks to reassure him.

But she neglects spilling the details. That Navy had a wolf with him, that he was doing some crazy shit with it in the midst of Regice's attack, and blew the giant apart. That kinda power only belonged to an avatar, but...

Tell Quinn, and SPECTRA would take it over.

... No, Navy was hers to kill.
