the steady rhythm of whiskey’s paws hitting the ground echo through the dimly lit tunnel, each step a comforting thud that reverberates off the stone walls. rusturf tunnel is quiet today, the usual flow of hikers and travelers noticeably absent, which suits miyako just fine. she isn’t here for the sights or the sounds—she is here because she is bored out of her mind and needed something, anything, to do.[break][break]

miyako leans forward slightly, her hands gripping the thick fur of her stoutland as they navigate the uneven terrain. whiskey, ever the reliable companion, moves with practiced ease, his nose occasionally twitching as he picks up on scents hidden in the cool, damp air. the tunnel might not be the most exciting place in hoenn, but it is better than sitting around doing nothing. besides, there is a certain peace in the isolation, the way the world outside seemed to fade away, leaving only the rhythmic sound of whiskey’s paws and the distant drip of water from the tunnel ceiling.[break][break]

"ugh, whiskey," miyako muttered, looking down and patting her loyal steed. the stoutland gives a huff in response, his ears flicking back to catch her voice. "there's gotta be somewhere cool in this damn place. sniff it out, 'kay?"[break][break]

as if on cue, whiskey steers the both of them down a narrower path, the tunnel’s rocky walls pressing closer on either side. the dim light from her flashlight casts long shadows, making the space feel even more enclosed, but miyako doesn't mind. spelunking is kinda hip and cool right now anyways.

The echoing silence of rusturf tunnel was something Aisling was yet to grow accustomed to. Flareon padded quietly beside her, its fiery glow illuminating their path just enough to avoid stumbling over loose rocks and uneven ground.

Aisling’s steps slowed when an unexpected sound disrupts the usual tranquility—a steady, rhythmic thud accompanied by muffled voices. Her eyes narrowed as she caught sight of a woman, and then widened in recognition. It had been years, but there was no mistaking her—Miyako from that stupid forensic science program. One of Aisling's many failed ventures.

"Never thought I'd see you spelunking for kicks, Miyako," Aisling stepped forward into the faint light. "If you’re looking for something ‘cool,’ you won’t find it in this damp hole." She hesitated for a second, then shrugged. "But hey, maybe you’ll have better luck I’ve seen weirder things." Her tone was half-mocking, half-challenging, the kind of attitude that had kept people at arm’s length for years.

miyako stops and turns around, raising an eyebrow when she sees aisling. a smirk slowly spreads across her lips and she lets out a short chuckle. the memory of that stupid class, and the even stupider professors, comes rushing back, and miyako can't help but be amused. she had never been one for book learning, and her grades had reflected that. it seems aisling hadn't been either, because miyako never saw her again after that introductory class.[break][break]

"well, well, well. if it isn't aisling o'connor." miyako saunters closer, her heavy boots clomping loudly against the stone floor. whiskey trots along beside her, his bright, eager eyes watching aisling curiously. "didn't take you for the cave-exploring type either. guess we're both full of surprises, huh?"[break][break]

she stops a few paces away and lights a cigarette, taking a long, slow drag before exhaling the smoke into the damp air. "so, what brings you out here? you trying to hunt down some pokemon or something? or maybe you just forgot which way was out?" her tone is teasing, the words dripping with sarcasm. it's an old habit, one that had gotten miyako into trouble more times than she could count. but she couldn't help it—taunting people was just too much fun.
