"grumpigs aren't that strong, are they?" lisette wonders aloud while her sinistea hurls a shadow ball at a fleeing spoink. while the teacup can hold its own against the baby pigs, it is unsure if it can measure against the parent swine. [break][break]

the spoink falls forward on its spring, a quiet yelp escaping its mouth as dirt flies into its face. lisette orders her pokemon to fire another shadow ball at the spoink, and the force of the spectral energy is enough to dislodge the pearl from its forehead. she runs over to collect the scintillating pearl. [break][break]

it's as brilliant as any gem found in a drampa's hoard. lisette prefers something with a bit more color to it, like a ruby, but the pink pearl isn't bad, either. "i got another one just now. i hope i'm not slowing you down, miss madd." [break][break]

There’s a flowery duffle on the redhead’s back. It looks downright tiny there, a reminder of how freakishly large the girl is. At the other grunt’s question, Madd turns to her. Broad shoulders lift in a shrug. “It depends on the Grumpig.” People didn’t think much of Bellossom, but her Uncle’s had more wins under her belt than most legendaries. “Best not to chance it.”

As the pigs are robbed of their crowns, their bouncing grows more subdued. A few of them even start to cry. This is the case with the last Lisette strikes down. “Yakky!” She tosses something from the bag at her Obstagoon. It’s painted to look like one of the pearls. But Bright blue plastic’s still visible underneath the scratchy coating. With a bobble headed nod, the Obstagoon picks up the teeny psychic type and plops this counterfeit in its hooves.

Back in its head cradle it goes. The thing sniffled for a minute before settling into quiet sobs.

Miss Madd? That shit made her feel like some second-rate substitute teacher. But it was nice to have a respectful newbie around. Most of the kids just stared at her tits while pretending to listen. As she pronounces the victory, Madeline’s Obstagoon bounds over to take the prize. If successful, it goes into the duffel slung across his shoulders.

“Don’t worry about it.” Unlike some psychos, Lisette wasn’t trying to murder the piglets. “You’re doing great.” Sure, it was theft but there was no harm done. It wasn’t like the Spoink needed the things.

As another group of Spoinks bounced by, Madeline gestured to her Xurkitree. It unfurled atop its rock like a bush. Long strips of rubber reached out to pluck out a handful of pearls. Little shocks pauses the piglets hopping. For an instant, a second. Not long enough to stop their hearts.

The pilfered pearls dropped to the ground as it turned an eyeless head toward the redhead.

The redhead offered a thumbs up, even if she’s not sure she can see it. “Yeah! Rock on, AC/DC!” She plucks the pearls from the Xurkitree’s waiting wire cradles. She runs her thumbs over them as if for luck. That or an urge to doublecheck they weren’t being double-crossed.

They shouldn’t need that many more now. “What brings you to Rocket?” Everybody had a story.

best not to chance it. lisette can understand that much. before team rocket, her experience with pokemon was limited to whatever stumbled in the woods near her home as a child. nevermind the fact that she'd never seen a spoink in the flesh until this very moment, but now that she was among the pearls and the swine, she finds herself enjoying this experience. [break][break]

in a way, they are also protecting the spoinks from their own selves, and each pearl lost is replaced with a substitute. lisette watches as madeline's pokemon move with a machine-like precision — it's the kind of easy confidence that lisette wants her team to emulate one day, too. [break][break]

as she brushes the dust off of her knees, lisette responds to madeline's words of encouragement. "oh, thank you very much." there is the faintest gleam of a smile on lisette's face, coupled with a slight blush that comes with being unused to praise. it heartens her to know that her efforts are amounting to something. [break][break]

then, for a moment, lisette watches the strange xurkitree's movements — almost transfixed by the ultra beast's strange appearance — before the other woman's voice fills the air once again. "after my grandmother's passing, i felt lost." it was an objective statement of truth, nothing more, nothing less. "i had nowhere else to go and nothing else to do. team rocket gave me a direction, i suppose." she's still trying to find her place in the group, after all this time, but she owes it to the ones who took her in to give back to them in any way possible. she would rather have a life full of purpose and meaning than exist emptily before death, after all. "what about you, if i may ask?"
