Just this morning, she’d received a call of a bird in distress. And she couldn’t resist lending a hand, not when the clinic had space. Besides, after all the war injuries, a simple broken wing would be a breath of fresh air. Now, she just had to capture it and bring it in for an exam.

A purple Oricorio accompanied her. While her Dragonite wanted to come, his size would make it hard to navigate the route. Even if he tiptoed, there’d be a lot of broken branches in his wake. It felt weird not to have Alastor beside her. But he was too busy scrolling through memes and eating homemade coffee cake to come. Not to mention the place was muddy.

The Heliolisk despised dirt.

This wasn’t an issue with Ricardo. The dancing bird flitted gracefully from branch to branch, his wings allowing him to easily pull ahead of his trainer. Occasionally, the ghost-type bird would pivot to fix the redhead with a stare.

“See anything, Ricardo?” The bird shook his head.

Occasionally, the doctor stopped to lift her binoculars. Still no sign of her patient.

Ricardo’s jumping paused. The bird’s fan-like crest spread in curiosity. It was apparent he’d heard something. “Corio?” The redhead stopped beneath him. A ginger brow rose as she toyed with the strap of her laptop bag. The bird’s pin feathers spread outward in a point. Those emerald eyes followed his wing’s contours to spot a bird a few trees up the road. Though it was its leek she spotted first.

Then, she picked out the brown feathers just above the branch. The color was warmer than what was present in the bark beneath it. “It’s a Farfetch’d!” There’s a burst of childlike wonder on her face for a moment. She turns a grin to the ghoulish bird above her. He tweets back. If he could shift his beak, Ricardo would offer up a charming smile. But, by then, Aubre was already worried he was just humoring her.

“They’re one of the most resilient bird Pokemon out there. It’s a good sign.” Lavender wings returned to their former position as he tilted his head. A little circle of his head indicated his trainer should keep going. “Are they all right?” What ensued was a series of fast-paced squawks and tweets. Finally, Ricardo offered a nod. “So, he’s not our guy then.” A shake of the head.

A scarred hand lifted in a wave as the Farfetch’d dipped back inside its hidey-hole. “Sorry we bothered you!” She scattered a few Pokeblocks on the forest floor. "I'll just--there are some treats outside."

Then, with nothing for a doctor to do, they pressed forward.
