kasper was no professor on the oddities of hoenn, not by a long shot, but it didn't take that to know that the odd plates were something rocket would be interested in. and, if they were being honest, they were also a bit interested in what exactly what was going on. they had lived here, after all, and in their nineteen years of life, they hadn't heard of anything like this.

so, when they had heard of the supposed plate near oldale town, they hadn't hesitated in heading out to look for it, trailed by their typical archeops and arcanine. the two of them would probably be able to find something easier than kasper themself.

if either of them decided to help, anyways. posie had woken up in a bad mood anyways, and zinnia was...zinnia. the arcanine didn't seem willing to help with anything unless it was food-related, and in those cases he just ended up getting in the way.

they were determined to see this through, though. even if it turned out to be nothing. at least they'd know for sure.

Blossom was out on patrol near Oldale, although in truth there wasn't much to patrol. Despite all the strange happenings reported lately — territorial golden beasts, mythical Plates connected to Arceus, and the long-lasting effects of Kyogre's primal rage —, the small town she had chosen as her home was largely peaceful. It was thanks to the League and the hard work of more senior rangers that she could be so relaxed while on the clock, and...

Her train of thought was interrupted by the sudden appearance of a Fossil Pokémon, of all things, who had cried out at the sight of her Meganium in the Illumina State. In turn, the ranger's eyes widened at the sight of it. No Archeops would just roam a rural area on its own, right...?

Blossom picked up her pace, pushing past the Herb Pokémon and the surrounding underbrush to have her suspicions confirmed. A young person with an Arcanine was standing in the middle of the woods.

"Ah, you must be its Trainer," she said with some relief, nodding at the Fossil Pokémon. "I'm sorry, my Géranium here must have taken it by surprise." Her Géranium was still aglow with a soft light, and upon hearing his name he let out an apologetic call. Meanwhile, his Trainer gestured to her Armband with the Badge. "Blossom Delier, rookie Ranger. May I ask whether you're a civilian and why you're out here? Don't worry, I'm asking only to better help you."

for a second, they're sure that whatever is out there, they don't want to know what it is. they know posie well enough, and they know the fossil pokemon wouldn't have been startled by nothing. especially not to that extent. if it had been a smaller pokemon or something? it would have been fine.

and then whatever posie had seen starts to come toward them, at a quicker pace, and the size of it alone is enough to confirm kasper's suspicions. they're about to call out to the bird pokemon, to tell him to fall back and live to look another day, when-

someone breaks through the foliage, followed by a glowing pokemon. she doesn't seem hostile, and neither do her pokemon, and kasper shifts their weight from something more relaxed and less i'm going to run for my life in five seconds. "yeah, i don't think he's ever seen a glowing pokemon." and then, for good measure- "because i also haven't." not in the wild, anyway.

immediately, as soon as the stranger gestures to her badge to introduce herself, kasper's thought process circles back around to something along the lines of i'm in danger. it isn't immediate, and they don't think they come off as suspicious in any way, so they can probably get through this by outright lying. especially since she already seems to think they're a civilian.

"yeah! yeah, i am. i'm kasper, and i sort of...just heard some rumors? about weird stuff around here?"
