Aubre’s dream of championship died the day her Mantine did. It’d been burnt out of her by hellfire and fangs. For years after, the very idea of a Pokemon battle made her fit.

But she was now three badges deep into a gym challenge. A fourth one was already scheduled. And a glance to her right reminded her why.

A bright pink Jumpluff hovered just over her shoulder. Its red eyes were hungry for battle. “Pluff!” Maggie cried as her eyes settled on another trainer.

“Really? Are you sure?” Aubre’s eyes met the grass type’s eyes. Unfortunately, only the first gym had been a good fit for the tiny grass type. So, she had a chip on her pom-poms. An urge to continue the dream her and her trainer once shared. “Let’s see if they’re—” The doctor sighed as the Jumpluff dashed ahead. “Maggie, wait!”

The pink blob came to a stop in front of the other trainer. Her lab coat flows after her as the doctor stumbles to a stop. Its dandelion fluff fists rotated, beckoning for battle. “Sorry about her.” Aubre apologized sheepishly. The Jumpluff quivers fiercely. “She’s been on a gym kick lately.”
