But as her expression remained steady, the grin slowly faded from his face. It took him a few more seconds to realize that she was entirely serious. He cleared his throat, still finding the moniker rather comical. [break][break] "What’d you do to the poor rodent?" he inquired, raising the glass of liquor to his lips. "Break his heart?" He sipped. [break][break] Whatever it was, it seemed serious enough to warrant the need for intimidation tactics. And of course, she was right to come to him if that was the plan. When it came to acting, he was second to none. If his life hadn’t gone so far off the rails, he could have easily made it big in show business. But alas, the cards he’d been dealt had led him down this lawless path instead. [break][break] From his coat's pocket, Olivander produced a coin, casually flipping it across his fingers with such smoothness that it seemed to glide through his hand. "You know, you kinda sound nervous there. Tell you what, let's play a little ice breaker—Heads, and we'll have a proper date after this whole ordeal. Tails, then it's your call." he raised an eyebrow and flicked the coin a few feet into the air with his thumb. The sound of its whirring filled the space between them.[break][break] "It'll be fine. This? Compared to the things I’ve done before? It's like improv night at a comedy bar. You won’t be taking any chances here—and you know what? Personally? I never gamble,"[break][break] The coin landed with a soft clink, right in the center of their table. It was heads.[break][break] "Everything I touch is already rigged for success." He grinned, the confidence in his voice unwavering, as though he could bend reality to his will with nothing but a word and a smile. He lifted the coin, flipping it between his fingers, revealing that it was heads on both sides. [break][break] What part of it was him just spouting nonsense out of sheer confidence, he himself couldn't say. But he believed every word he'd told her, even if his past endeavors suggested otherwise. [break][break] "And if you want to bring up that one time, technically, we won the case. So," he raised his hands, palms up, tipping one arm after the other as though mimicking the motion of a weighing scale with his playful gesture.[break][break] [attr="class","oocnotes"]
