One would’ve been right to assume that Annie couldn’t afford access to the Safari Zone. Rather, she’d sent her Weavile to ‘hunt’ for money (on the ground and not in pockets, she’d insist to anybody that asked), and he’d mistaken the ticket for currency. The owner was long gone, leaving her with an opportunity that would only go to waste otherwise.

And so, there she stood, Grampa by her side. What she was after, she had no clue. Heck, she barely knew what was on offer, besides a few cuties. That was all the more reason for her to be hopeful as she wandered into the grass, waiting to find her next new friend.

The first of many appeared – a small rodent fellow poking its head out from behind a tree. She paused mid-step, and the two eyed each other carefully. It wasn’t hostile, and it wasn’t particularly Annie, and so she had no business with it. The girl pulled a blue berry from her pocket and tossed it towards the Chespin’s hiding place. While it revealed itself further to investigate, she ventured further into the zone.

Was that a free Pokeball in the distance? There was nothing Annie liked more than free stuff, so she hurried over to add it to her collection. It wasn’t until the ball turned around and showed its eyes that Annie realised it wasn’t quite the goodie she’d been hoping for. And it looked pissed. She looked to it. Then to her Drampa, as relaxed as ever. She slowly shook her head to herself. They could fight angry fake items later, but until then they were moving on.

An absolute cutie popped itself out of the grass as she passed. The girl stopped again, turned to see the little beast, and felt her heart swell two sizes. She tried (and mostly failed) to stop herself squealing with glee, but she had a slight problem. Only three balls, and she didn’t know what else was waiting for her. She willed her heart to be still, crouched down and gave the Vulpix a pat on the head. “I’ll be back for you soon,” she muttered – and off she went.

‘Ooooh, I know that one! That’s Ghost Twig!’ The girl could’ve really benefitted from a Pokedex, or some time outside with a real trainer. Regardless, she was familiar with the Pokemon, and she’d had her chance to capture it before. She also knew that it wasn’t much of a threat unless she made herself one, so there was no harm in letting the spirit get back to its business. She would do the same.

OOC: Catch attempt!

A Pokemon that didn’t have eyes had caught Annie’s. That was a rare sight to her, and that meant that the Pokemon was worth giving a chance. Add that to the gem that seemed to be its core, and she’d determined the beast to be Camp Annie material. “That’s the one, Grampa. Knock ‘em dead! Well, not actually dead, but you know what I mean.” The Star recognised their intent, and set up a Light Screen to defend itself. “Hit ‘em with a- huh?” She knew that barrier – Grampa could make the same one!

Which meant that she knew how to counter it.

“To the skies, G! An aerial assault!” And so he did, bypassing the screen altogether by dive-bombing his prey. The Starmie teetered back and forth, trying to keep its balance, but it wasn’t fast enough to dodge a Pokeball.

The Chespin returned, or so Annie thought. No, wait. She didn’t know much about Pokemon, but she knew that she hadn’t met many that could change colour. Either this one had a talent, or it was a different, fancier Pokemon. Or, judging by the red, it was very angry. Either way, it had become 400% more Annie.

“Hey, little guy! You and I have matching colours! She gestured to her eyes and its ‘hat’. “That means that we’re friends now, so you’re a part of Camp Annie!” Her logic wasn’t the best, but as Florian had taught her, intentions shone through. The Chespin rushed over to her side, returning the grin she flashed at him. A Pokeball was pressed against his head – if all went to plan, he wouldn’t resist.
