like most things, slateport is prettier from a distance; when all the eye can see are the spires piercing the horizon and the lights colouring the clouds. not the people, not the acrid taste of exhaust against the tongue.

not a city, but the concept of a city. that's what dominic liked best.

it tried to attack out the shadows with a sucker punch, a spiked arm lined with a dark spectral energy. the cacturne missed because inexplicably, the rocket and his pokemon weren't expecting it.

dominic's heaving sigh was disappointed, and that was enough for the houndoom to lunge forward, snarling through the pricks of pain from spiky shield on his snout as he buries his teeth in its throat with a neck-snapping crunch. he cocks his head sideways to watch his pokemon attack, bone-white fangs against flashing flames, his own blank and contemplative stare.

"were you really that hungry?" the whisper of kanto in his dialect is lost against the sound of snapping teeth and tearing plant matter. "don't make a fucking mess."

the scene could only be best described as nauseating to the point that dominic's lip curled in disgust rather than in the typical for him haughty sneer.

he disliked the way the hair on the back of his neck stood up so he opted to quickly move on, sliding through the alleyways without having to call for the houndoom - he knew he would follow.

this time the sucker punch hit him squarely in the shoulder, sending him reeling back into a brick wall, doubled over in pain and still laughing. he liked this one - at least it could land a hit.

a whistle is enough; khayat came bounding from the shadows with a feint attack to pin the croagunk down, his flamethrower particularly painful against the pokemon's dry skin.

dominic throws the pokeball before the houndoom shreds this one, too.
