The holiday is a popular one for establishments like his. Many go out seeking a night of romance and glamour and Evan is eager to foster such things within the confines of the Stray. Though he can't say it's something he's ever really experienced for himself before, he's watched it in others and see no reason not to play his part in it if he can.

And that's how they come about this lazy afternoon, in the back of the Stray. He's shut it down for lunch for the day so that he can test a thing or two. After all few realize just how good of a cook Evan is, and tonight he'll be playing baker too. Cakes and cookies already line the counter, stashed away on trays and bins for later in the night but some of the items that will be on the menu are a little more select.

He's busy shifting through ingredients, looking over the selected recipes and deciding once and for all what his choices will be for the night.

That's when his taste tester walks into the Stray's Kitchen, led there by one of his many pokemon who had already been instructed to do so. The Blaziken is a familiar face around the tavern at this point.

Normally, cheesy holidays weren’t Lars’s thing.

The last time he did something similar to this it was with someone else, and his guts began to burn uncomfortably as he remembered who he spent this time last year with. But no matter. He had closed the door on that.

And in turn it had made him a very petty, absolutely cynical individual who didn’t give at least two shits about the entire situation.

Well, that was him for most of the year, at least until Evan himself came sauntering in. Not exactly sauntering, but it was definitely a welcome change in hopefully the right direction. Even if he didn’t want to get his hopes up too much, he was too much of a hopeful bastard.

So imagine his surprise when he got a message from Evan asking if he had some free time one afternoon, and if he could swing by the Stray for a ‘special project’. He could only guess what it was since there were so many possibilities.

Interestingly he was informed to go through the back entrance, not the front, so this had to be something special. Or at least that’s what he hoped.

He was surprised to be led to the kitchen by a Blaziken, and the moment the delicious odor hit him, he found he was in danger of drooling, himself.

“Well, what are you cooking up?” was his way of greeting the other. “Got something nice for me to try?” he added with an uncharacteristically cheeky grin on his face.

"I might have a thing or two up for grabs." Evan says with a playful smile to the blond entering his kitchen. He doesn't quite turn away from his work yet however, rubbing his hands together to get the crumbs and traces of flour off his fingers before turning around. His back leans against the counter top and he gestures for lars to sit at the table.

Inked arms cross over his chest, smiling at the man for a moment, looking him over before he finally speaks again. "Just to be on the safe side, you've got all night right?"

Evan wants to be sure, before they get too deep into the fun of sweets and treats that will be served over the course of the rest of the week. There's no denying however, by the looks of the kitchen, that his goal is to give the other man a stomach ache by the time he's done.

“Honestly, I was looking for a reason to come here and cool off. Do you have drinks along with all the sweets you’re offering?” Lars replied, crossing his own arms when Evan inquired if he was free for the entire evening.

“Of course, they can survive one day without me, they can survive one evening as well. Exactly how many things am I going to be taste-testing for you?” he added a few moments later as he caught sight of the chaotic mess that was the Stray’s kitchen.

Okay, what had he gotten himself into? He liked sweet things, however how much was he going to be seeing this evening was going to be… dependent on how much Evan had produced for him to try to see if they had just the right kind of sweetness.

“Hit me with what you’ve got, then.”

"Good, this may take awhile."

"Aaaaand you might not be up for a lot of rangering when I'm done with you."

There's something a little extra playful in his smirk as he makes his way to the fridge for the first of many treats on the line up. Evan's been at it most the day, experimenting, trial and erroring the many things he hasn't made in awhile.

He brings out a sweet little slice of cheesecake, already plated and chilled. Two pecha pieces stick out the top in the shape of a heart. The rest are sliced down and adorn the top of the cake before falling off it like a little waterful of sweet love.

"Pecha cheesecake to start, this'll be the big special for the week."

“Oh, please, they can get by without me—“ he bantered back with a chuckle.

The first thing that appeared in front of him was a cheesecake, chilled just so. “Really?” he continued as he saw the Pecha berry halves cut and assembled into the shape of a heart. “Here goes,” he added a few moments later as he reached for one of the forks and took a bit off from the very tip of the cake.

“It’s very pink,” he teased. There was this amused look on his face as he scraped off some of the other chilled Pecha pieces before taking another slice to combine the taste together.

“Hm… this could do with a little less sugar, I think. Not all cheesecakes are very sweet. Don’t cut it down too much—I think the flavor you’re going after here is tart,” he added a few moments later.

"On the contrary, I'm going for smooth." Evan says with a grin curling about his lips. He leans on the counter, propping himself on his elbow for a moment. His chin finds itself settling in his hand before he speaks again. "The cheesecake is much mroe versatile than people give it credit for."

"Go on, keep going, see if it doesn't grow on you a bit."

He's got all night and a fridge full of goodies to go with it.

Thankfully the cake slice wasn’t that big, and it disappeared in a few moments.

There was another contemplative look on his face as he was busy picking the fork clean, before he spoke up once more.

“Ah, there’s the tartness I was mentioning earlier,” he began once more with a chuckle. “Nice and smooth. How many batches did you make before you got the consistency right?” he inquired.

“The cheesecake layer is really creamy, melts in your mouth, too.”

He didn’t know how much more was waiting for him but he was ready for whatever else was going to come out of that fridge.

"not as many as you might think, actually." the man chuckles, the smile nearly as sweet as the treats he's feeding to the other man. "I might nto bake often but I manage alright."

Before Lars has a chance to comment further, regardless of the manner in which he might et teased, Evan is springing the true plan and pllot upon him .

The plate that comes from the fridge next is a platter of chilled treats. Tarts, little bars, pecha and leppa and heri berries are aplenty. They have been been used quite judisciously within a geletin dome, the piecs of fruit strewn within it cut to look like falling petals within the dessert.

He sets the platter of samples on the table, standing proudly with his hands onhis hips when he comments again.

"And this is just the chilled treats, wait til you see the warm ones."

“Well it’s a good thing I came here hungry,” he sassed back with a mischievous twinkle in his eye. Of course, the work day had been long, and he hadn’t the time to grab a bite to eat prior to coming over to the Stray for this little favor.

The next treat that came out of the fridge made him do a double-take, how was that even—

He blinked and looked at the quivering dome of gelatin.

“Are you sure you want me to ruin this? It’s too pretty to destroy,” he asked, fork already hovering over it and waiting for his signal to start tasting it.

“It’s practically a piece of living art.”

"Of coursse, part of the charm is the overwhleming guilt you feel while eating it."

The grin curling across his lips couldnt have been more mischevious without the man magically turning into a cheshire cat himself. His tone is surprisingly devious for a man that's built on the image of a jolly giant. The way he props his elbow on the table and plaes his chin in his hand again to watch the other says more than words really can.

Evan would be entirely too delighted to see Lars destroy his creation and devour every bit of it.

Was he really going to destroy this?

Sure, it wasn’t like there was a case of insanity propelled by the desire to kill people with too much sugar going on, but this was another kind of ‘madness’ altogether—the kind that would be perpetrated by none other than Evan Fader, the one person he could make himself an ass out of and get away with it.

He was just there, holding the fork over the danged thing.

Lars sighed.

And the fork came right down, skewering the thing as he ripped off a chunk and began to eat it as fast as he could manage because holy shit this stuff was very delicious.

Evan chuckles, sweet and devilish all at once. The man finds a little too much jpy in watching the other one deliberate over eating his carefully made treat. He takes the dive though and Evan watches for a few bites as the other man tries to scarf it down before he reaches out.

He plucks the fork from Laurence's grip, preventing him from eating on the treats further. Instead of quietly, and with a grin scoops out a bite for himself. However, unlike lars he eats it slowly, eyes on him.

Then he scoops out another bite and holds it out for the blond to take, from the fork, Evan won't be letting him take the fork back just yet. "You're supposed to be enjoying it not trying to swallow it one bite."

Lars was a man on a mission, and Arceus be damned he was going to stuff the entire thing into his mouth even if it killed him. Before he could destroy the rest of the cake, though, the fork was taken away from him and he let out a noise of protest.

“Hey, I was—“ he blurted out, before backtracking a few moments to watch what the hell Evan was doing. For some strange reason though, he felt his ears set themselves on fire, yet again, and he didn’t understand why that kept on happening.

“I like it, okay? It’s very tasty!” he protested. He wasn’t going down without a fight, this one.
