Ami had been running low on money lately. Just yesterday she had opened her wallet at the poke-mart just to come up short - picking fruitlessly at her coins pouch. Her lifestyle was really degenerating day by day, while her Pokemon observed in disapproval. It was about time she preyed on some hippies around Verdanturf Town - this was the perfect place to harass a few until they bought her poke-feed. Honestly, it was pretty good stuff, but she liked to hike up the price depending on her clientele. Just good business, right?[break][break]
She had been out here a few days, picking up good money, and giving her Pokemon a place to run around and enjoy nature with. They were all out, helping gather passerbys with their irresistible charm (or so she believed; they were all her cutiepies). All in all, it was going well, and Ami was thinking she could be packed and out at the end of the day.[break][break]
It was nice when her mini-vacations went without a hitch.

Nero eyed the vendor from a distance away; finally gathering enough courage to move in after his reconnaissance that lasted some extended amount of time. His reasoning? An outbreak of hallucinogenic additives being mixed with poke-feed. A highly addictive property with potential for severe repercussions on the pokemon—primarily feral outbursts that have led to several pokemon-trainer deaths in the last month. And Agent Joker was so close to ending the selfish and nefarious actions.

Nero approached in a black button-up with its centerline masked by a white tie and its sleeves rolled to his elbows, completing a casual look that would hopefully stave off assumptions of his federal position. Beside him, a Golduck waddled with small slaps to the surface beneath his feet. Not his most well-known pokemon, but his othered garnered too much attention.

"Are you the one with the natural poke-feed?" he questioned with an apologetic smile, feigning embarrassment for disturbing her. Shorter, pretty, and unimposing. A terrible description for a suspect, but his eyes were still focused behind the kindness...

Ami's Meowstic had noticed the newcomer before she did. His ears perked up and he turned entirely to face the man. He poked at Ami's leg to grab her attention, with success. She greeted him with a friendly smile. "Hi there!" She glanced over her offerings on the table to make sure everything was still looking nice and tidy. "I certainly am! Are you interested? They're homemade with a little magic touch!" He looked friendly and willing enough, although a little young to have white hair. It must have been dyed. [break][break]
She noticed the Golduck at his side and flashed it a winning smile. "Wanna try one of these treats little fella?" Well, it was not really a small Pokemon, but she pulled out of a bag a couple assorted colored beans. One was shaped like a small heart, another was rainbow colored. Ami stretched out her hand towards the man, so he would have the option to decline. She had to be pushy to an extent, but being too forceful made her uncomfortable and awkward.[break][break]
"Want a free sample? You can try one too."

Nero suppressed a laugh at her enthusiasm, watching the treats with feigned interest. Was this batch loaded with the substance? Or just a substance. He'd play his part faithfully, "Magic touch? That's just love, right? Goldy here is has a weak stomach, so it's not anything too right?" He gave an apologetic chuckle, the golduck looked odd with his blue hide being flushed rose.

But when the vendor leaned out with the food in hand, the pokemon couldn't keep up his act, being seduced by the scents of the food. Before Nero could make any movement towards it, the webbed hand had swiped the beans from her palm, effectively downing each one almost immediately. He quacked in contempt, and Nero only gave a confused and astonished expression—this time genuine. "Well, you aren't playing to the plan," he mused over, turning back towards the woman with a laugh.

"I guess... he thinks he can handle it," he smiled hesitantly.

And then suddenly the detective was faced with an offering for a bean himself; the thought was was offputting for him, but it was a prime opportunity to give further evidence. "Maybe? Does it taste good to humans? You eat it first—I don't think I'd be able to otherwise," he said with a worried face.

And still his eyes watched... soon they'd make their move...

He didn't seem to be completely repulsed by Ami's salesmanship, which was a good sign. In fact, he was quite polite about it all. She laughed from her belly, entertained by the Golduck's impulsivity despite its owner's hesitation. "You like them? I think your stomach will be fine." Ami reached out to pet its head, if it would let her.[break][break]
Ami dusted off her hands. They were slightly sticky from the jelly bean residue. "I think a couple flavors are really nice, though they don't give humans any nutritional value." She turned around to grab two yellow beans. "These ones taste like lemonade! I like them." She plopped one into her mouth and chewed happily. They probably weren't favorable to everyone, but she thought the lemonades were the least offensive. Truth be told, she sometimes ate these when there was nothing around because she was about 50% degenerate.[break][break]
Ami extended the other bean. "I can't give you more after this though! I'm not made of money!" Her Pokemon cheered out in excitement behind her.

The golduck, a selfish pokemon that was recently traded to him, nuzzled into the woman's hand, eyes peering over towards er body and examining the line of her form. Nero put in an extreme amount of effort to not lash out against the pokemon, and most of that strength came from the importance of the mission. "Stay. In. Character."

He accepted one of the yellow droplets, only loosely examining it before inquiring further. "What makes these so special? Everyone around here seemed to rave about you!" he encouraged her; suspicion carefully hidden behind his words.

Nero didn't fear the treat, and easily slid in between his cheeks to extract the flavor slowly. If it was a tainted batch, he had the cure on hand to quickly recover—and the woman seemed fairly unaffected by the contents. Unless she was a sleight-of-hand empress, or highly resistant to secondary influences (in terms of chemical additives) then he should be safe. He highly doubted that she was one wanted to take some random stranger down with her.

The food itself was... not what he expected. In a bad way. While it was advertised as something to be enjoyed by both human and pokemon, it still had the distinctive pet taste to it. He struggled after a couple bites, his face wincing in minor disgust but finally geting it down. "No worries, I think... I might get a batch. What flavors?" he said, stalling the conversation. His tongue still worked around the inside of his mouth, desperate to cleanse the rough taste.

His eyes followed the person. Wait no, two? As they split and got closer. The were still a distance out.

Ami beamed at the Golduck, who seemed to be enjoying her company. But as she had already turned her head back to her customer, she hadn't noticed its pervy gaze. She watched as he took in the bean, clearly not finding it to cup of tea. She smiled sheepishly, hoping it didn't deter him too much - and also hoping he didn't think of her too poorly. Actually, she normally didn't think about it, but the clear disgust on his face made her feel a bit self-conscious. Maybe she should stop encouraging people to try it for themselves.[break][break]
There was not really a big secret ingredient to her recipe, for whatever it was that she was making. Ami was certain there were many other poke-chefs who had far superior foods than hers. If it wasn't for the fact that she needed some living expenses, Ami probably wouldn't continue going out of her way to market herself like this. Her hobby was in the cooking, not necessarily in the merchant aspect of it.[break][break]
"I use a lot of spices from Alola, where I'm from. My personal palette is already likened to Alolan foods so it naturally goes into my cooking too. Not everyone likes it, but I think the Pokemon here like trying something new."[break][break]
Ami rummaged through the remaining baggies. "Most of the bags are assorted flavors, I think they're more interesting! I think some Pokemon prefer certain flavors more than others, I have a little paper inside that tells you~" She turned and twisted the bag in front of her to get a better look. "There's about 10 beans in here of different colors and flavors. Want this one?"[break][break]
"It'll be ₽100!"

The more the woman spoke, the more he believed her innocent of any actual collusion with the true culprit. She was just another passenger—and she didn't even know it. There was a point where he felt maybe she did bake the treats with special herbs, but that was dissuaded one she revealed the truth of it.

"Really, Alolan? The could be why Goldie is so keen to it! That's where he's from," he lied smiling down at the conniving, blue friend. Fortunately, the golduck loved to act and play a role—even if only in an exaggerated fashion. And he would gladly keep up the game when the subject was an attractive lady. Nero lucked out in this regard; as normally the blue pokemon was difficult to work with.

The woman was talkative, a good trait to have as a salesman. A terrible thing for him as he tried to split his attention between the shady subjects he eyes in the distance. Had they already interactive with her? He'd need to get a word in soon, but with how much she pushed her pitch, it was difficult to do without tipping off his position. He'd have to think of a careful well to press his inquiry.

"That's thoughtful of you! Great for larger parties. Alright, you've convinced me, I'll get two," he beamed warmly at her, ignoring the price of the subject. The golduck clapped in agreement. "So, are you from Alola? Why do decide to come all the way out here?" Nero asked, fishing out the change in his pocket.

One of the men broke off in another direction, but the second was within earshot—lingering and listening. He did his best to look inconspicuous, but they were dealers, not spies. Their posture and awkwardness told all. Nero wouldn't look obvious in his watch, instead giving Ami almost his full attention.

"Are you from there too?" Ami clasped her hands together, her excitement a little exaggerated but coming from a genuine feeling. "I'll give you the second bag as a free service then!" She exchanged his money for two bags of beans. Actually, maybe this was a good place to stop her sales. Their conversation was coming on a little longer than she thought, and feigning such excitement was a little bit draining. As she replied, she would begin cleaning her set up slowly. "Far huh? Well... I guess I just wanted something new." She didn't have a big sob story, although it was true her relationship with her family was strained. Though, Ami didn't really have to leave the whole island to get away from them.

"Kinda cliché, I know. Are you from Hoenn yourself?" She was oblivious to the man lingering nearby, listening to their conversation. She just thought this was a friendly encounter. "And how'd you get all the way here, Golduck?" [break][break]
Daisy must have felt another presence and tried to tug at Ami, but she just pet her head, thinking she wanted some attention.
