The safari zone had recently seen a change in species temporarily inhabiting the area. It encouraged an impromptu picnic in the area to enjoy the company of Pokemon and hopefully, maybe find a few new friends to bring home.

"Lucario, make sure they don't run ahead too far, okay? I'm just going to pick a few berries and then we can sit down and eat."
[break][break]

Avery waves the young dual-type off as he juggles two rambunctious and excited Pokemon. A Heracross meanders along, minding its own business for the most part. It takes Lucario's sharp, irritated bark to send the Furret and Pachirisu skittering into the tall grasses. It sounds like they're laughing.

Out of the shadows of the nearby grove of trees, a nasty, unfriendly-looking face pops out of the dark to startle Avery. A lolling tongue attempts to drench her in saliva and she squeals in shock, side-stepping to avoid the tricky Pokemon.[break][break]

Fortunately, the ghost doesn't pursue and Avery doesn't look back. It's more than likely her Lucario steps in silently to deal with the threat, but Avery is none the wiser.

Avery is still jumpy after the bump-in with the ghost, and then to add insult to injury, a Scatterbug drops right in front of her eyes from a low-hanging branch. She yeeps, stumbling backward in fright. Of course, her expression softens at how equally startled the Pokemon is, and how downright adorable it is.[break][break]

"Oh! You startled me. You're awfully cute though."[break][break]

Avery's Heracross approaches, bright pink carapace catching the sun. It blinds the poor Scatterbug and the Pokemon falls into Avery's outstretched hands as she gasps, desperate to catch it. The Scatterbug's tiny body is soft in her hand and she opens her palms to see that the poor thing had exploded with POWDER. It seems harmless for the most part other than to make the woman sneeze.[break][break]

"Hey, hey, it's okay! Heracross was just nosy, he's a bit pushy."[break][break]

One gentle finger scratches under the Scatterbugs chin and he wiggles like a pleased puppy.[break][break]

"Wanna hang out with us? We're settling down for a picnic soon, we're just looking for some berries to top it all off. Think you could help us with that?"[break][break]

Avery makes her way past a pond, but the blue and marvelous scales of the sleeping Dratini go unnoticed. She instead stops to show the Scatterbug it's reflection in the water. The bug seems unnerved by it, or perhaps by the Dratini looking on hungrily with dark, blinking eyes.[break][break]

The woman is oblivious, however, and moves on without much thought. Her berry basket is nearly full, she just needs to find a nice spot to sit. Honestly, right beside this pond might be nice.

To her left, a swarm of tentacles splash to the surface. They scare away whatever timid creatures had lingered at the edge of the river. Avery steers clear of the mess, not eager to get involved in such aggressive wild Pokemon behaviour.[break][break]

Her Heracross acts to antagonize the situation, but ultimately, the Tentacool make their way further downstream to bother someone else.

There is an audible gasp, followed by hands to the mouth, as Avery witnesses a Pokemon she has never seen before in person. Directly in her path lie half a dozen adorable Eiscue's. They waddle forward with purpose, all except for one. The last one seems smaller than the rest and has become entranced by the woman's Pachirisu. [break][break]

The pink Pokemon's tail twitches, electricity pulsing in her cheeks. On occasion she gives the ice-type Pokemon a small zap, causing the Eiscue to squeal in surprise. It continues to come back for more, however, clearly enamored with the fuzzy pink Pokemon.[break][break]

Avery approaches cautiously but with purpose, eager to get closer to the Pokemon. All it takes at this point is a friendly hand and a berry plucked from her pocket. The wild Pokemon chills it upon contact, freezing the thin layer of skin protecting the fruit beneath. [break][break]

She catches the Pokemon not long after.[break][break]

A sharp gust of wind tugs at Avery's hair hard enough to twist her. Mostly because a large portion ends up in her mouth and distracts her from her reaching; there's a low-hanging branch of ripe berries she was trying to sample.[break][break]

In the process, however, she is disoriented enough that she notices a whole slew of Sunkern be carried off in the wind. She realizes then that, more likely than not, this gust of wind was Pokemon-made rather than naturally-occurring. And, one Sunkern had not been picked up so easily, or was prepared enough for the blast. It aims to land in the water, and it draws a gasp of horror from the woman.[break][break]

Without thinking, she bolts after the endangered seed, reaching out with an open palm. The back of her hand dips into the water but she is successful in her retrieval, tucking the abandoned Pokemon close to her chest.[break][break]

"That was quite a tumble! You're safe now though."[break][break]

She gently smooths the Pokemon's sprouting leaves before using one of her safari balls to capture it.[break][break]
