What started out as an impromptu decision to board a ferry and sail across the open ocean and enjoy the day quickly turns sour. [break][break]

One minute, Avery is enjoying a kiddie pool with her Furret and Pachirisu, and the next she's sobbing and begging for both her life and the lives of her beloved Pokemon as pirates board the boat and take advantage of anyone with anything of worth.[break][break]

It's just unfortunate that Avery had two shiny Pokemon on board with her at the time. They are too friendly, too trusting despite the fear in the air, and are ultimately seized. They scream in pain as their scruff is pinched and their tails pulled.[break][break]

"Please, please don't hurt them! I'm begging you, please.."[break][break]

She's sobbing, on her knees, forced there by a pirate keen on asserting dominance over the petite pinkette.[break][break]

Other pirates are busy ripping jewelry off of necks and wrists, ordering anything precious be tossed into the center. But, for the most part, it seems as though the pirates are poachers, and they had just struck gold.[break][break]

"These rats'll sell a purrrty penny, ey?"

Wind whips at Orion's hair as the jetski he'd borrowed from the seashore house carves a path through open water. Reports of pirates and poachers had been all too frequent along Slateport shores, and he saw it as his duty as both ranger and councilman to investigate the matter personally. In the wake of the boat, a purple Swampert's fins betray its presence beneath the waves.[break][break]

"Almost there, Schism! Get ready to board!"[break][break]

The silhouettes of two ships dominate the horizon, figures moving across decks and looking like ants from such a distance. Innocuous at first, the tension becomes palpable as Orion draws close enough to hear the screaming.[break][break]

He tosses a pokeball high in the air, yells: "Get me onto that boat!"[break][break]

His battle-scarred Noivern swoops low, grabs him none-too-gently by the shoulders and plucks him from one watercraft to be borne onto another. He lands hard on his ankle, stumbles, but regains his footing with intent. He's shocked to recognize the familiar, terrified face of one avery jones, but has little time to dwell on it before the pirates are converging. He's one man against several, but he'd brought the firepower of his Pokemon partners along.[break][break]

"Cover your ears, Avery!"[break][break]

Noivern's BOOMBURST rips through the air, a devastating sonic blast. The boat's railing groans beneath Schism's weight as the Swampert clambers aboard, throwing up a WIDE GUARD to protect Avery and her Pokemon from the auditory assault.

The Noivern comes out of nowhere, or the pirates weren't watching their backs. Regardless, at the sight of the brute they shit themselves as if they're at death's door, scrambling away from Avery in time for the incoming boomburst.[break][break]

Avery looks up to see the familiar face of Orion - and normally it would stir warm, fuzzy feelings, but right now it just stirs more panic. What was he doing here? He was going to get hurt![break][break]

But he's calling for her to cover her ears and she does so without needing to be told twice. She clamps her hands over her ears as the horrifically loud noise blasts her eardrums for a split second. And then the noise is gone because a bright purple Swampert is protecting her.[break][break]

Unfortunately, she's still in shock from being forced to the ground that she can't find the strength in her trembling legs to get back on her feet. Instead, she just continues to sob, unsure what to do to help solve this problem.[break][break]

Her Pokemon had been thrust into cages but were since abandoned thanks to the boomburst. They are scared stiff, clinging to each other as best they can through their separated cages.
