This latest expedition to Mauville Hills was long overdue. And this time, he'd come prepared.

The type of bait he set in the dark hallway (poffins, to be exact) would not attract all of the pokémon that lurked within the abandoned underground structure. But he'd run the calculations and compared notes. Spicy poffins would attract the most out of any other poffin. Now he just had to make sure Badcop didn't try and eat them.

Thankfully (for now) it was Goodcop that hid quietly just around a corner with him. Once the bait was taken, it would activate a pressure plate that would capture the wild pokémon in a net. At least, that was the plan. As a precautionary measure, the opposite end of the hallway would be blocked off by another net as well, effectively trapping whichever pokémon fell for it first...

... or so he hoped.

His big brain moments had a history of backfiring, after all.

A Swellow swooped down from the rafters above and stole their bait, bypassing the pressure plate that would activate all of the nets. Though Atlan was surprised and equally as respectful of the bird's crafty maneuver, however, Goodcop was irritated by it. He'd been looking forward to their big trick going off without a hitch. This wasn't fair!

So, switching into its far scarier Hangry Mode, Badcop took matters into his own hands and shot the Swellow down with an Electro Ball. It plummeted towards the ground afterwards, then hit its head on a pillar before crashing into the ground in a gust of feathers. "Holy shit! Are you okay?" Atlan exclaimed, rushing over to the dazed bird to provide some first aid.

After using a potion to help with its concussion, it angrily cawed at the Morpeko before flying off and forgetting the bait it had dropped. Probably for the best. Badcop wouldn't have let that slide.

After their ordeal with the Swellow, the pair hunkered down behind cover once more and waited. And waited. And waited. But, suddenly the place seemed to have been deserted by the wild pokémon Atlan once thought called this place home.

It was then, however, that he something was caught staring in the shadows across from them. It was a Yamask, observing them much as they observed the bait and trap they had set. When it realized it had been caught, the little weirdo simply floated away. Atlan and Goodcop made no move to go after it.

At first, Atlan believed it to be a mirage. It came out from one of the hallways connecting to the central pathway he had set his bait and trap on. It looked so out of place here in the empty manmade corridors... he didn't know what to make of it. Regardless, the Stantler fell for their trap and set off the pressure plate before it could even bend down to eat the poffin.

When the nets came upon it like a creature of its own, the Stantler unleashed a piercing and supremely odd screech as it struggled against it. Goodcop started to charge an Aura Wheel when the powerful beast managed to stomp their way with the nets in tow. Before the hamster could dash forward and crash into the reindeer, however, Atlan had thrown his heavy ball and made contact. They waited to see whether it would stay captured afterwards.
