Bryn gives but a single nod as Stormy is suddenly hit with the tone-deaf trills that echo down the long spiral staircase, no longer needing to explain the plight of the lighthouse residents now that their pain had been witnessed. “I think they were banished from hell long ago, more like.” The little wisp on top of Nine’s head wiggles as sunny Sol greeted her in turn, the artificial cloud making a pleased chime before plucking up the courage to float over and begin twirling around him in a display of happiness to see him again. It didn’t seem they were bothered by the tension that their feathered friends on the top floor were creating. Clouds had far more pressing matters to attend to, it seemed; leave all the work to their humans. [break][break]

“Come on then, I’ll introduce you.” It seemed Stormy was up to the challenge, offering a smile and a straightened posture that Bryn could only interpret as confidence and so he wasted no time in heading back towards the stairs, leading her up the winding incline the he has long since gotten accustomed to climbing multiple times a day. Bryn remained quiet as he ascended, making sure to avoid the creaks in the floorboards so as not to disturb Lucy, his foot placement now second nature as they approached the top of the lighthouse, sunlight streaming in through the wall of windows. It would make for a pretty sight, what with the panoramic view of the ocean and port city surrounding them, had the scenery not been marred by the bird pokemon family and their nests on the balcony just beyond. [break][break]

As soon as Bryn reached the top of the staircase and walked into the middle of the room, the Wingull hatchlings caught sight of him through the glass and began to chirp frantically, scuttling behind one of their parents. Their father spread his wingspan wide and instantly began to flap and hop around the place, the mother’s squawking taking on a more hissing quality, if that were at all possible. “There they are, the happy family.” He waved towards the flock as one of them, in their display of trying to frighten the two humans off, accidently bashed its beak into the glass with too much gusto, headbutting the window pane. Bryn looked unimpressed by the display of bravado, like he had seen it all before. [break][break]

“I was thinking that the best way to go about this is if we approach them from both sides,” he gestured towards the door, guiding with a finger how they could circle around the balcony, one from each side, “like in a pincer attack. So they can't give us the slip.” Hazel eyes dragged away from Stormy as he walked over towards the door the led outside, picking up a broom that he had left leaning close to the exit, his castform purposefully hanging back near the middle of the room. It was probably now clear to their guest that he wasn’t going to use her for the mission… although he didn't look too happy to be clutching a stick, either. “Just so you know it’s not exactly the widest space out there, so you should probably stick to using a small pokemon.”

“Funny, that… I'm interested to know how you came to that conclusion.” He’s made his way down the long flight of winding stairs by the time Stormy arrives, wearing the exact expression that she expects of him, although the sharpness of his eyes are dulled by weariness. He can hear the water birds’ screeches from their perch all the way at the top of the lighthouse even though they were now at the base; Bryn shoots Stormy a dry, unamused look to go with his sarcastic tones as the Pelipper let out a cackling chorus. “Fucking birds. Don’t you love them?” Still, Bryn released a sigh, his fingers pinching the bridge of his nose as he stepped aside so that Stormy could come in, waving her into the bottom floor of the lighthouse where the kitchen was placed. Despite his growls he was relieved to see her.[break][break]

As soon as she and her own castform entered the building, Nine floated out of her perch at the appearance of the guests, her form remaining neutral as she let out a little coo towards the fellow forecaster; a shy yet gentle greeting while remaining close to Bryn’s side. Carding his fingers through mousey hair, shoulders relaxing just a little, the weary lighthouse keeper relents on the bitterness for a fraction to welcome his guest, who certainly was far too qualified to help deal with a flock of Pelipper during her time off. He was grateful that she hadn't shrugged him off, he'd have to offer her some tea and some of the nice cookies he kept stashed in the back of the cupboards after this mess was sorted. “Anyway, you’re Lucy’s hero for turning up, I don’t think I can hold her responsible for her actions if this goes on any longer.” He’d set up a nest in his office for the Ampharos to rest, her light room at the top of the building no longer useable; although that might be for the Pelipper’s mercy more than anything. [break][break]

He should be sleeping, what with the sun arcing high in the sky and yet here he was, glaring through the tall glass lantern panes of the light room, engaged in some kind of staring contest with a plump, obnoxious bird. Bloody ridiculous. [break][break]

It had been a week since a Pelipper pair had decided to make the lighthouse balcony the location for their nest, their numbers since multiplying with the arrival of five squawking baby Wingull, all of which screeched during all hours of the day and night. It was enough to drive anyone mad. Bryn wasn’t the only one fed up with it and he had been forced to insist the Ampharos, who had become agitated with her unruly new neighbours, leave the light room during the day so that she could at least sleep in peace. Otherwise he was sure he would wake up one afternoon to find an electrified family of seven turned nil. [break][break]

Needless to say he had needed them gone yesterday, so that he and Lucy could do their job without having a flock of shadows creating shapes in the beam of light, like some kind of unwanted superhero signal spreading throughout the port. Still, it was kind of pathetic that he had to call for backup, just to get rid of some oversized Rookidee.. [break][break]

Arms folded, ignoring the feeling of Nine snuggling against the back of his neck as she sat contently in his jacket hood, Bryn tapped his fingers against his arm and kept his gaze trained on the Pelipper mother; her stink eye reminding him of the wing slap he had received to the face he had received the last time he had attempted to go outside and get them to move on peacefully. He grimaced and glanced away, not quite foolish enough to attempt to go out there and try again. No... This time he'd be smarter, this time he’d send Stormy instead.

“Piece of shit,” he grumbled under a gravely breath, his patience falling apart like the broken rusty key in the ancient lock, a hand rising to drag down the centre of his face. Everything in this place was as rusty and brittle as the long-abandoned fishing boats at the pier, neglected and left to the salt air. he shouldn’t have been surprised to find that some of the more time-weathered structures of the lighthouse would be resistant to the new pair of hands attempting to pry it open. Figures it would be the office door though, where most of the technical equipment and power grids sat behind, that would be the one to be a stubborn jackass. He resisted the urge to kick the thick wood as he squeezed half of the key into his palm.[break][break]

Rolling his shirt sleeves up near his elbows, Bryn descended back down the long winding staircase, floorboards creaking and particles glittering as light filtered through the small windows; probably not the last time today. He hit the bottom floor with a brisk walk, throwing the remains of the snapped, now useless key on the kitchen table and passing the Ampharos with a broom gripped in her flippers, her beady black eyes blinking as she stopped sweeping dust out of the door. “I’m heading out, won’t be long,” he threw vaguely over his shoulder at the last minute, briefly forgetting that he wasn’t alone anymore, that he now had a living thing to tell of his comings and goings. Ampharos – or Lucy, as he had been told she was named – quirked her head at him imploringly and watched Bryn from the door as he walked down the path that led from the lighthouse. [break][break]

It wouldn’t hurt to leave her and Nine alone for a few minutes, just while he went to find some tools. [break][break]

His closest neighbour, which he found after a few minutes’ walk along the coast and sheltered just slightly out of sight by a line of trees, bustled with life to the sound of pokemon cries and slamming screen doors. They seemed to be in; this chore might end up being quickly resolved, thank fuck. [break][break]

hands in his pockets bryn approached the active residence, scanning for life in which he could converse with, before falling upon someone reclining back; a still image amongst all the pokemon roaming about. “Hey, you there,” he calls, stopping on the edge of the house perimeter with but the wooden fence separating him from the lounging woman, an indelicate greeting when she may very well be dozing in the sun, especially considering how many beer cans were at her feet. “You wouldn’t happen to have any tools I could borrow for a bit, would you?”

hello boat friend, would you like to meet lighthouse man? he's a bit of a grump but he makes nice tea, will give you good weather predictions for your voyage to make sure you're not setting sail right into a storm and has an ampharos to help light your way should you want to visit him in the evening. or if you just want to avoid smashing up your pretty boat. he'd also be quite interested to hear about all the interesting artefacts you've found and weather conditions you may have experienced on your trips. maybe sometime he can come along for the day on your boat to experience some choppy seas.

also she'd be more than welcome to drop in and stay a while in the lighthouse if the weather is too bad for her to leave slateport. she seems like the kind of person that bryn would find interesting! also he wouldn't mind if she is a bit of a flight risk, in that she turns up out of the blue some days and then vanishes for long stretches of time, just so long as she's keeping safe and has something interesting to show/tell him when she turns up next. it's not like he's going anywhere.

(basically let's be pals cus a sailor and a lighthouse keeper would make for a good lil pair!)

arriving from alto mare in the johto region, angelo spent the last two years enrolled in the mauville city university before deciding to take a gap year to work and travel. his motive to come to hoenn to study is so he can support his family back home and so angelo sends most of his wages back there to help them out. since he was a teenager he’s put his siblings before himself, so being able to travel as part of his job as a poke mart courier is the first time he’s really allowed himself to do something that he wants to do, even if it is just a benefit of his temporary job.[break][break]

in his mind, angelo is not going to be in hoenn beyond a few more years and after this break he’s going back to school, therefore he’s making the most out of this gap year. he’s keen for new experiences and eager to see new places, as well as delve into the battle scene before he has to go work at some reliable, boring corporate chain. even though his eagerness to experience as much as possible can sometimes lead him to throw himself into reckless situations. he’s someone who puts the people he cares about above himself, whether that be by sacrificing his own passions for a path that isn't as interesting yet necessary in supporting his family or going further than he should for a friend. past the socially confident, adventurous person is someone who is struggling to not grow attached to a lifestyle he feels he’ll have to leave behind and someone who is not yet strong enough to put himself first. underneath the surface angelo is conflicted, frustrated, envious of those more put together than himself and has a temper, yet after years of looking after his siblings he’s quite adept at deflecting his problems and masking it behind his smiles. leaving it instead to simmer and pool larger and larger... he can be found all over the region. his job as a courier for the poke mart allows him to run deliveries wherever he is needed and he will often be seen cycling or camping between the different cities, coming and going as he pleases. angelo is also up for taking on small jobs for cash in hand – he’s quite flexible when helping others out save for outright law breaking – and he loves battling, both for the activity and because he’s got a habit of sticking down bets in hopes of earning some winnings.

a former weather institute scientist who was led by an insatiable thirst for knowledge and results. it was only when he was assigned to a team dedicated to the experimentation of their artificial pokémon, that he began to waver in his detached professionalism. then, at an executive decision to terminate a defective batch of castform which he had overseen in their creation and raising, he found himself unable to see them as a simple science experiment any longer. now he lives in slateport city as the lighthouse keeper, distanced from the scientific world in which he had dedicated the majority of his years to, quitting his career at the weather institute in favour of walking his own path.[break][break]

bryn is often found around slateport city. due to his position as the lighthouse keeper however, his sense of time is a little bit different than those with the normal nine-to-five grind, with the morning hours often spent sleeping so that he can stay awake during the night to support the lighthouse ampharos and monitor the port. while on duty he can be found within the lighthouse or in its close proximity so he can be close at hand. visitors during this time are welcome should they not mind him occasionally having his attention divided. when not working and not holed up studying, he can most often be found outside in the more natural areas around slateport, being someone who enjoyed spending his time in the wild area when he was back in galar. he's also got a habit of going on walks along the beach just as he clocks out at sunrise, as this is when it is most quiet, going out rain or shine.[break][break]

rough around the edges and perhaps a little too serious at times? yes; but he’s trying. he’s used to living in a bubble up until recently and so bryn is a bit out of practice when it comes to putting himself out there with friendly intentions, often appearing awkward or aloof when attempting to.[break][break]

although he can come across as being prickly - like an old man trapped in a young body - bryn doesn't often mean harm, his behaviour unconscious rather than intentional. once you earn his respect or formed a bond with him, he's the type of person who can be trusted with lending you an ear, offering some advise or being there in what way that he can; calm and steady. (you can always rely on him to offer you a cup of tea!) he's making efforts to be a little more soft, in his own way.

Changes in the temperature or humidity appear to affect its cellular structure." ―― a defective castform that bryn took from the weather institute. its form change ability is imperfect - the C9 batch seeming to only be capable of changing in the rain - which was cause enough to mark them all for termination. nine is very clingy and bryn doesn't really know how to handle it.

a former meteorologist for the weather institute. bryn left the research facility some six months ago after an incident following a conflict of interest; hanging up his bleached white lab coat and trading it in for the old, quiet slateport lighthouse. it's become a stark change of pace but bryn has quickly settled into the slower lifestyle, using his new position to learn, search and reflect on himself as well as the world from atop his new lookout tower.

△ was born and raised in the galar region. he also studied his degree there, graduating from hammerlocke university. he was inspired to go down his career path by the wild area's diverse biome and how the weather conditions differ greatly over such a, technically, small expanse of land. △ worked for the weather institute in hoenn for close to five years before he departed from the facility on bad terms. originally his interests sat firmly within meteorology but due to circumstances during his tenure, it began to shift more towards the pokémon side of the field, such as how weather conditions induce change to a pokemon's power, form and even how they are capable of tapping into changing the weather through their moves and abilities. he studies independently now and has begun writing research papers in his own time.[break][break]
△ after clashing with his superiors over the ethics of experimentation on castform, bryn took the option to leave his position at the weather institute over a more forced dismissal. a couple of months ago he took up a job as a lighthouse keeper, where he is left in charge with the building maintenance, responsibility of its weather station and the care of the resident ampharos. it's a simpler occupation but he's using it as an opportunity to consider the failings of his past, conduct his own research for the first time and is perhaps, quietly, even using it to lie low in a less complicated bubble for a while.[break][break]
△ despite his eventual decision to splinter from the research facility, bryn was present for experimentations and creations of castform for a time. he's picked up a little on genetics from it but it seems being part of the project did more harm than good, as the castform weather condition experiments was a main factor as to why he ended up losing favour for the weather institute. △ bryn was never really all too taken by pokémon in the past. it wasn't until recently that he began to enjoy their companionship and take up studying them in genuine intrigue, shedding the detached professional attitude he previously held when interacting with them. he never got bit by the training bug in his youth and has sparce battling experience. he understands it on an intellectual and analytical level however, but as of yet he hasn't had many chances to partake in battles...
