He winked her way, trying to look cool as his head tilted—

Just as a large noodle poked out of the ground, wiggling as it looked around.

His 'cool' expression shattered in an instant, his jaw falling agape as his eyes widened like platters.

"ORTHWORM!!!" He gasped excitedly— a pokeball already out of his hand and smacking straight onto the worm's skull.

Running off to grab his now full pokeball giddily, Doug stared at it briefly, before his head suddenly snapped back towards Yuina.

With their belts now a pokeball heavier, Doug looked over the ongoing chaos around them, and the fact that a lot of eyes were turning to them, and decided to make his call as mission leader.

"Think we've seen enough for a day, ladies and gents!" Doug declared, raising a hand. "All units, retreat to base!"

Throwing out a pokeball of his own, the youth hopped atop his own Flygon, nodding at Elaine Highland and maverick noah ryder with a grin before taking off.

They wouldn't see the full battle play out— but upon returning days later, they would find all they needed— a pheromosa hive, with not a buzzwole in sight.

The tall, elegant bugs had won their territory and expelled the large, bulky bugs off their land.

For now.

"We live in interesting times, to be sure." He said wryly. "Between Regirock, Regice, and Regidraco... think we might find a Regibug at some point?"

Now that they were so close— and shouting— the creature's attention was quickly fixed unto them, it's gaze burning into them with searing ferocity, before it reeled back its head and roared at them.

"Then that's the one getting a whooping!" Doug declared, stepping between the dinosaur and his new charge like a Stoutland protecting its Lilipup.

His Orbeetle hovered forward, gaze aglow.

The world took on a magenta hue as the Orbeetle(?) presumably invoked Psychic terrain, enhancing its psychic prowess and limiting speed options within its vicinity.

That gave Doug an idea.

"How are ya goin' 'bout building your team, Lucy?" Doug asked her suddenly as he glanced back at her, winking.

In the meanwhile, Garo went ahead and gave a psychic shove against the lumbering titan, pushing back harshly.

It did not realize yet the misfortune barreling towards it at top speed.

It wasn't the first time Doug ran across the sudden chills while exploring the chasm, and he suspected it wouldn't be the last, either.

"Are we sure people sealed them?" He asked. Where they even sure people made them?

"Oh wow, their traps look even more impressive in real life!" He noted with a smile as Yuina rose into the tree tops. He glanced over at Basara. "Lucky Yuina— they don't eat humans— she gets to see them upclose!"

Yuina kept rising... and rising... and disappearing...

"Wait, they don't prey on humans." But they ate anything otherwise.

Doug looked at Basara again, then at the spot were Yuina had disappeared.

"Oh SHIT!" Doug screamed, before leaping on Basara's back. "WE GOTTA SAVE HER! GO GO GO!"

Luckily, Doug was pretty good with all bugs— even ones that weren't his own.

After so many trips, one realized they were ever present yet largely inconsequential.

Speaking of consequential things, though—

The air shimmered around them suddenly.

A crack was heard, as if crystal had shattered. No tera crystals collapsed however— But the fabric of space and time sure as hell did.

"Oh. It's one o' th—" He began to dismiss the distortion out of hand.

But almost as soon as it appeared, the hairs on the back of their necks stood on end, and heavy sound made pebbles and crystals rock around them.

A large shadow swept over them as something massive leapt out of a nearby waterfall, flying over the distortion and them before landing in a booming crash on a lower level plateau.

Now Doug looked alert.

"Look alive, Anderson! Our job's come knocking!" He said, grabbing a pokeball.

With her leg healed, he had little reason to stop them. Perhaps some hesitance— he was essentially escorting a child into a danger zone— but he figured he could handle whatever came.

Garo nodded back at him before moving to take point.

"Garo here's an Orbeetle, Lucy." He said as they walked, pointing at the bug type. "He's a bug-type, and also a psychic-type. He's really smart— he's also like a radar! With one on ya, ya can probably find just about anyone."

The living radar glanced back at the girl, eyes glowing briefly before it nodded her way.

Then, it turned away from them and began to hover faster.

"Guess it found something already— pokemon out, Lucy! Let's go!"
