    Only mere moments passed from the time that Connor had made his request for a more interesting evening to the sounds of someone new entering the establishment. “Thank you.” Connor muttered underneath his breath as the stranger made his way towards the counter, already sizing him up and determining that his luck must have been incredible tonight to have such an attractive patron to dote over for some time. “Hey there, what can I get you?” A small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth as he leaned against the counter, awaiting to see what the redhead would order, luckily not having to wait long for the request to be made. “Way Back When, coming right up.” Connor had a lot of time to come up with nicknames for drinks with how little he often got to service real customers, glad that he had the opportunity to break one out for once instead of simply sliding a beer across the wood. “You’re either having a really good night, or a really bad one.” It didn’t take him long to return with an Old Fashioned in each hand, setting them both in front of Xander with a brow raised out of curiosity. Of course it was the job of any bartender worth a damn to play therapist to his patrons, but he couldn’t help but be slightly more interested than usual due to the fact that the subject happened to be both handsome and potentially vulnerable, the kind of combination that was prone to making bad decisions from time to time. Now if only he could be that bad decision, then perhaps this job just might be worth the trouble after all.

    “In either case…” Connor grabbed two shot glasses from underneath the bar, reaching behind him to pluck a bottle of whiskey off the shelf, nothing expensive but not the cheap stuff either. “...here’s one on the house.” Both glasses were filled with a couple tips of the bottle, sliding one across for Xander and keeping one for himself. Connor didn’t waste time tossing his back, reactively wincing as the alcohol burned at his throat, but quickly managing to right himself and provide a warm smile once more. “Wanna talk about it? I have all the time in the world.” He glanced towards the meandering patrons that were scattered around the tables, noting that most of them were actually undercover security that were placed to prevent police activity, much like himself.

    Connor had nothing but resentment for Rustboro City, acknowledging this place as the origin of his misery, and never wishing to return as long as he could help it. Despite this, he found himself standing among the lamp-lined streets once more, doing his best to keep his cool at this assignment. For weeks he’d been asking to do more for the organization than simply being a gatekeeper to an underground gambling ring, wanting to prove that he was worth more than tending the bar that disguised it. He’d gotten his wish, but at a price that he wasn’t pleased with, much like a genie had given it to him. There was a man hiding out in this city that owed a substantial amount of debt to Rocket and he was sent to collect, an issue he had no problem with solving, but remained dismayed at the location. “You got anything, Crag?” He looked towards the Lycanrock at his side, sniffing the air as he still was attempting to pick up the trail of the degenerate gambler from a scarf he’d left behind at the casino. “We’ll keep looking.” Connor put a cigarette between his lips and lit the end, taking a deep inhale of the smoke to keep himself centered before blowing it out into the night air. “Fuck me.”

    They started walking once more, hoping that soon they’d find this man and be done with it so he could get out of this city as soon as possible. Every street was a memory that he didn’t want to remember, the scents and sights all too familiar and barely changing since he’d last been here. “Hmm…” Connor spotted an izakaya nearby, wondering if it would be worth seeing if the locals happened to spot the man or knew where he’d been staying. “You hungry?” Crag barked in acknowledgement, pressing his nose into the leg of his trainer which caused a smile to appear on his rather dour face. “Can’t catch our prey on an empty stomach, eh?” Connor took another hit of the cigarette before flicking it onto the street, extinguishing it with a shoe before adjusting his tie and stepping into the establishment.

    “I’ll take two specials, one for me and the other for my Lycanrock.” The woman smiled, obviously not remembering that at one point in time he’d stolen food from this place when he was living on the streets. “Fuck it, I’ll take some whiskey too.” If he was forced to be in this city, then at least he’d dull his senses to the misery. She took the order in stride and returned shortly to place the glass of alcohol before him, about to inquire about the degenerate gambler before a voice was heard from not too far away. “Screw this city.” Connor chuckled slightly, raising his glass in the air towards the man. “Cheers to that, fucking horrible place.”

    Connor leaned against the bar with a soft sigh as he glanced upon the gathering of patrons that were actually here for drinks instead of the casino below the floorboards, wishing that he had something more to do than serve drinks to the regulars of the establishment. Everyone had to pay their dues before advancing in the organization but that didn’t stop Connor from being impatient that he had been the gatekeeper for the illegal gambling operation with nothing more to show for it than the tips he’d brought home. Scattered attention was once again gathered as a man walked through the door, touting a bland looking suit and a cheap haircut that he was only used to seeing from one kind of person. “Evening, how can I help you, officer?” Connor offered a fake smile towards the man, pushing himself upright and sliding a hand underneath the counter. “Just got off shift, heard good things about this place and decided to come by.” The false smile persisted even as Connor wrapped his hand around the revolver that was placed under the counter just for situations like this, knowing that if any law enforcement were to attempt a search on the premises he would have to be the one to take the fall. Part of the duties, even though he’d never killed a person before in his life.

    “Relax, kid.” The older man said in a gruff tone, nodding towards the underside of the counter, seemingly knowing what the bartender had planned for him. “I’m just going to order a tequila sunrise, extra ice.” Connor’s brow raised slightly at the order, not expecting this man to know the first part of the entry code. “Alright, then. Coming right up.” Removing his grip on the handgun, he slid a finger over towards the button that was positioned nearby, awaiting the second part of the entry challenge. “Hey, you got a bathroom in this place?” There it was. A part of Connor wondered exactly who or what this officer was connected with to be gaining entry to a place like this, but it wasn’t his job to question patrons. “Down the hallway, to the left.” Without another word, he pressed the switch that unlocked the electronic locks on the door, the detective pushing himself off the stool with a nod and walking off towards it. At least he didn’t have to shoot anyone and spend the rest of his life in a prison, but something about the excitement of the moment was enough to give him a second wind. Now if only someone equally as interesting would come stumbling into the bar, he’d be able to go at this all night.

Connor didn't capture his Pokémon companions in the traditional method of most trainers, instead having met them during his time

Personality

A wild dog much like the Pokémon he surrounds himself with, Connor is known for being unruly and unpredictable. There are few things shorter than his temper but he tries his best to keep it under control when he recognizes the need to remain calm, even if it doesn't always work. For the many traits he shares with the canine species, not all of them are negative. He has demonstrated in this past his fierce loyalty and commitment to others, as well as a remarkable ability to tune into their emotions. This is to not even make mention of Connor's keen sense of smell that some say borders on the supernatural, though is nothing more than a genetic aberration.

Associating with Connor can be somewhat of a mixed bag due to his dubious behavior, but to those he cares about they will find nothing more than a loyal and compassionate companion in either business or love. It doesn't take much other than positive reinforcement to turn this hellhound into a sweet puppy. Just don't get bitten, unless that is your thing. [break][break]

Despite the youth's obvious behavioral similarities to the canine Pokémon species, Connor prefers to keep himself rather clean and well groomed. His slate colored hair runs a decent length, seeming to prefer to keep it on the longer side for not particular reason. Now that he no longer is living on the streets and has a steady income, he tries to dress in a series of black suits that hide his lower socioeconomic standing. Connor prefers to keep himself in good physical condition due to the fact that he likes to handle most of his problems with his fists instead of using his Pokémon to fight his fights for him, making his body tone rather lithe and athletic.

Alone for a long as he can remember, Connor doesn't have a single memory of his parents. As an infant he was discovered alone and crying in the bustling city of Rustboro, soon to be turned over to an orphanage in the city where he would get the care he needed. Growing up he was a loner and a troublemaker, not really fitting in among the children he was placed with in the orphanage home and furthermore progressing into petty crimes during his teenage years. [break][break]


It wasn't long before Connor was tired of living under the constraints of the orphanage, feeling as though he could take care of himself better living in the streets. At the age of sixteen he disappeared into the night and started his live as a homeless teen and his career as a criminal, stealing what he needed to survive and breaking into all kinds of buildings to have a place to sleep. Each day it got harder and harder to live this life, and Connor was even on the verge of giving up before meeting a pack of stray Pokémon in the city. [break][break]

They were the same as himself, abandoned and alone, struggling to survive in a metropolis that didn't care about them. It wasn't long before the sensitive Connor was able to earn their trust, relying on each other and becoming almost like the first family he'd ever had. Things only began to pick up from there, even managing catching a break doing some small time work for some people he'd later discover were Team Rocket. Connor was given a job working as a bartender in an establishment that was a front for an underground gambling ring that lived just below the pavement, it was understood that he would keep the undesirables out and maybe he'd find his own place among the Rockets. [break][break]


It was strange to say that he'd found a family among organized crime and the Pokémon he'd happened upon during one fateful rainy day, but he finally felt as though he was accepted and no longer alone.
