uri likes seeing her smile. it makes him happy, warm, so when she smiles, he makes sure to take a break from his food for a moment to appreciate it.

he smiles in response.

"one sec. i'll show you."

standing up, he quickly jogs over to the fridge, pulls it open, and comes back with a little tupperware full of...

"gummy bears."

the thought does enter his mind but her words help push it away, clearing him of just that one insecurity.

his first serving is quickly finished, practically vacuumed down his throat in typical uri fashion. he reaches for another serving, yet to be satisfied.

"oh. i also made dessert, by the way."

was he an idiot?

he was simply being realistic. to think of himself as a ten out of ten seemed a bit much, and that was coming from someone as foolishly confident as he normally was.

"what?"

his forehead was flicked, as per usual.

"fine. i take it back."

his chewing slowed the moment he heard he fork settle onto her plate. the clink was almost deafening. he peered up to look at her, meeting her gaze.

"honestly?"

he hummed, thinking for a moment.

"i think i'm a solid eight. maybe a nine on a good day."

"i'll keep trying."

but there was not a doubt in his mind that he'd get that esteemed ten out of ten rating someday. it was there, waiting for him; all he had to do was reach out and grab it.

then, a thought fluttered into existence. it was asked mid-bite.

"am i a ten?"

finally, uriah reached toward the lasagna to scoop out a serving for himself, delicately placing it onto his own plate before taking a bite.

it tasted like a ten to him, but he wasn't complaining. nine point five was really good for sol's standards.

"i'll see if there's a way i can change the texture a bit."

he smiled, glad that she liked the dish.

"is that what the missing point five is?"

suspenseful as always, uri waited in anticipation. his demeanor only faltering slightly at her question.

"...i'm pretty sure."

but then she reached for another bite, and that was when he knew.

"see? what'd i tell you?"

his smile was far from smug — confident, perhaps, but never smug.

"ten out of ten?"

he's tough enough to handle warranted criticism. would this be warranted, though? he's about ninety-nine percent sure his lasagna's fucking amazing even if he's yet to actually try it.

he probably should before staking such a claim.

but he's stuck watching her in suspense, waiting for an answer.

"well?"

uri started caring about the place shortly after sol had spent the night here, because it was only then that he realized his apartment might play a factor in whether they'd end up together or not. no one wants to stay in a messy apartment, after all.

besides, it looks much nicer now.

"good thing i didn't, then."

after placing the lasagna down, he leans over to give sol a kiss on her cheek before quickly running back into the kitchen to grab them some plates and utensils.

soon, he's cutting a slice for her before he places her plate in front of her.

"let me know what you think."

the timer of the oven must've gone off sometime during because by the time he walks back over to the kitchen only slightly more tired, their lasagna is all ready for them to consume.

he pulls the oven door open, slips a pikachu-themed oven mitt on, and pulls out their lasagna before carrying it all the way over to the dinner table.

"see? it looks perfect."

of course that's her answer.

of course it's not even whispered.

his grin only grows at her words. he dotes kisses against her neck, soft at first, but each hungrier than the last.

"please, sol."

a second or two, and he's meeting her gaze once again, breathless, hungry. it shows in the way his eyes flick down to her lips for a moment, then back up.

"pretty sure i have, but if not..."

his voice lowers once again, whispering into her ear.

"tell me what to do."

uri does expect it. the challenge is met head-on, something akin to defiance burning behind his gaze.

"i want you, sol."

and so he kisses her. his hands move up her back, tugging at the end of her shirt.
