"stop making a scene."

a pause.

"you have the wrong person."

and with that, he turns and heads out the door.

[attr="class","niko i"]his calloused hand almost doubles the size of hers but she finds it with ease. he holds on in response, giving the gentlest of squeezes as they continu walking down the path.

"hana."

his voice almost sounds commanding as he calls out to her.

"why are you out here tonight?"

[attr="class","niko i"]simple. straightforward. blunt. he appreciates these qualities, and when she shows him as much, he in turn starts to appreciate her.

"scouting for talent. but a good time seems to be on the table now."

almost imminent, really.

his hand brushes down her cheek, lingering for moments more before he pulled away to down the rest of his drink.

"i saw you performing earlier."

though his words convey hurt, his expression is anything but as his grin curls even more. he leans against her too, not minding her warmth against him.

at her question, he reaches for his glass, lifting it to his lips.

"whiskey. i guess i wanted something strong to match."

as his glass lowers, his hand moves up to brush strands of her hair. his touch is perhaps unexpectedly gentle for someone his size.

"niko."

[attr="class","niko i"]niko could always appreciate a bit of attitude and defiance as he's no different in that regard. it has a time and a place, however.

but he does nothing about it quite yet. respect will come eventually. for now, he waves over for a drink that soon makes its way into his hands, brought over by one of the ground-type pokemon.

he sips at his whiskey.

"you got any skills besides having a loud mouth?"

at her question, he only nods, holding his gaze.

"niko."

once again, his corviknight screeches overhead, calling them towards it as it flies down the path.

"stay close to me."

and with that, his hand falls.

"tch."

a part of him wonders if the flame was started by something like a will-o-wisp, but his thoughts are pushed aside for now as he drops his bucket before walking out of the barn.

it continues to burn behind him.

a name he hasn't heard in so many years. it even sounds foreign to him, as though it no longer fits whatever person he's become. no nostalgia comes from it.

the ditto on his shoulder rotates, eyes shifting back to peer at sol while niko continues to walk away, not stopping to even look back. he turns left, heading towards the cashier with an almost empty basket of groceries.

because he's already bored, which becomes clear by how he yawns as he finally tears his gaze away to peer at their surroundings. they're meant to be out here searching for something, apparently.

"i see fuck all."

despite towering over everything else, there's not much to see from down here. it's why he calls out his corviknight, and after a screech, it flies up into the air, starting its hunt.

"give it a sec. we'll find something."

[attr="class","niko i"]the door to the familiar bar opens, and in step its owner. the occupants nod their heads in greeting as one of them gestures over to a table near the middle of the room.

the floorboards practically creak under his weight as he approaches.

he drags a chair back, sighing as he sits.

"you the kid wanting to work for me?"

there's an odd smell of pumpkin spice in the background. maybe the chef's cooking up a nice meal?

[attr="class","niko i"]a pile of leaves scatters as his foot drags through it. he hadn't noticed, to be honest, as he's been mostly looking at her in her short dress. very fitting for their day out in the fields.

"nah. i'd be bored out of my fucking mind."

as he's already starting to be, despite the distraction.

"but maybe if i had the right company."

his glass clinks against the counter as he sets it back down.

"looks like i'm not anymore."

he flashes her a grin as he tilts his head over, unabashed in the way his eyes roam down her rosy skin. eventually, they drag back up to meet hers.

"what are you drinking?"
