At the sight of the woman in her pristine white dress, Kayt pauses, looking up at her with bright eyes and sitting all too politely when addressed. A button of a nose sniffs the air, as if to figure out if he recognizes her scent, and when he realises that he does not, the Eevee tilts his head.

Eager and earnest as the silver Eevee may be, he knows his manners. After all, they do often say that pokémon take after their trainers, and his happens to be not at all far from the scene…

”Apologies, I hope Kayt hasn’t been bothering you.” When eyes as grey as rain-bearing clouds fall upon Elisabeth Fiorelli, she’s addressed with a pleasant tone, even if in that gaze of his there will always be careful scrutiny. ”He likes the fields. I think it’s probably because we don’t often venture out of the city.”

The explanation isn’t particularly needed, but it’s given anyways. Perhaps out of simple politeness, or perhaps because by virtue of simple first impressions, the stranger is deemed to be the sort of person with whom he wouldn’t mind having a conversation. Percy is quick to cast judgements like that, and the woman’s choice in berries is similar to those in his own basket.

Naturally, taking after his trainer indeed, Kayt makes his judgement as well, and this one expresses itself in the way the Eevee joyfully wags his tail.

Beneath the warmth of a spring sun, berries in a vibrant array of colours lie ready to be plucked from the branches where they had grown, embracing the season they call their own.

It’s not often that Percy would make the time to visit a place like this, but with rawst and cheri berries being in season, and with nomel berries being at what’s arguably their best time in the year, not stopping by the berry fields to pick some would be a wasted opportunity. If anything, it’s a shame that it’s too early to find good pecha berries, but perhaps he can stop by when midsummer comes.

It’s while musing on this matter that the journalist inspects a couple of cheri berries, making sure not to pick the ones that look the juiciest or largest, but that look ripe and as if they will be good to dry. He intends to make tea with them, after all, and anyone who knows Percival Munn knows he takes his tea very seriously.

”Don’t wander off too far, Kayt.” In stark contrast with the tall man’s calm demeanour, the small silver-maned Eevee by his side is both earnest and eager, wagging its fluffy tail happily before approaching a nearby berry bush. An elegant black collar adorns its neck, and from it hangs an everstone.

If only for a passing second, Percy chuckles to himself at the sight of it, the faintest smile lingering at his lips before turning his attention back to berry-picking.

Adorable is, admittedly, something Percy hasn’t been called in a very long time. Especially not at this age, not even by his own parents. It’s not something he considers himself to be, it may be something he has never been, and for a man who so easily sees insult in most things, it doesn’t take any effort to see that one simple word as an attempt at mockery. But, why would Pace Mahmoud mock him? He had asked him to be here, after all. He had been extremely insistent, actually.

And so, with such things in mind, it’s while looking at the man before him that Percy tells himself to try to put all of his insecurities and anxieties to rest for just a few hours. Composed as ever, his response comes swift, as if he hadn’t just been filled with worries and doubts:

”Planning another date already? Bold move, Pace.”

Date is not exactly what this is, and thus the word is given an intonation that matches the sentiment. It’s a hook up, they both know it, but by now even Pace must realise that Percy is not the sort of person to just casually say things like these. Not even when it is as obvious as it is now. Not even while drinking wine and being so very close to him.

Undeniably so, it gives Pace’s next question a sharp edge, causing anxieties and insecurities to rise once again. And, just as before, it leaves him to stop himself from going on the defensive, but this time, as he does so, if only for a second, in his expression there’s something akin to pain.

It truly only lasts a second, though, and it’s all too easily that it leaves him in favour of a measured look and a quirked brow to match his rebuttal. ”For a man who was so insistent on me coming here, you seem very keen on questioning it. Aren’t there better things you’d rather be doing right now, Pace?”

Use Pace’s desires as a distraction. Use his own desires as a way to, if only for a moment, drown away all the uneasily feelings that eternally consume him. Percy knows this game well. That's why he's here, really: to try to forget and simply enjoy himself.

Well, that’s a rather unnecessary display.

It had all gone well until reaching the last server room. Wisp had lured the Porygon out, Barnaby’s pokémon had beaten them up, there hadn’t been any real issue, and they had actually made a good team for once. So far, so good, but apparently this last Porygon-Z decided it wanted to make them pay for ruining the fun its friends were having.

Honestly, the noise is painfully loud, but BARNABY FINCH believing he can yell commands at him is perhaps even more annoying. So much so that, when reaching up to cover his ears, Percy spares a second to glare at his colleague.

”WHY DON’T YOU DO SOMETHING?”
[break][break]
He doesn’t wait for a response. With a gesture, Wisp is sent forward to lure out the Porygon-Z, and from a pokéball, a Sableye is then released.
[break][break]
Unseen, hanging from a necklace that lies beneath the journalist’s suit, there’s a keystone that resonates with the mega stone at the Sableye’s wrist, causing it to MEGA EVOLVE. It’s MAGIC BOUNCE that protects the Darkness Pokémon against all attempts at indirectly harming it, and powerful attacks deal with the Porygon-Z with ease. Is it overkill? Maybe so, but Percy has had it with all this.

With the Porygon-Z defeated, the noise finally stops, and Percy stands ever so composed – his gaze wandering over the servers in search for any obvious damage. It’s only once he confirms that there’s none that he addresses the Sableye, of course:

”Good work, Jouyl.” Smiling at the praise, the pokémon returns to its original form before being called back, and Percy brushes non-existent dust off his jacket before turning his attention to Barnaby.
[break][break]
”You can have the Porygon if you want. You’d probably have more use for it than me.”
[break][break]
And with that said, he turns to leave the server rooms and get back to work, Wisp following dutifully after him. Enough time has been wasted with this.

Percival Munn is studied in the art of overanalyzing every single word that comes out of someone else’s mouth, and such being the case, Pace’s passing and seemingly insignificant “been thinking about you” comment goes far from ignored, dismissed, or unnoticed. Looking at the ranger, he finds himself squinting just so slightly, and in doing so, he wonders if the comment had been made with the intent to flatter him or if it was something Pace said without much thought. Which would he prefer? Honestly, that’s a question which Percy doesn’t have the answer to. So, he doesn’t comment on it, of course.

”Yeah, I have a small tea garden at my place.” That and much else, because admittedly his houseplants are one of the things he’s truly proud of, but he doubts Pace would care at all to hear about all the different kinds or about how he has been trying his hand at at-home hydroponics.

He didn’t come here to talk about plants, after all.
[break][break]
That is something of which he’s reminded of with a look, a grin, and a glass of wine. And, even though he knows he probably shouldn’t do something as cruel as agree with Pace’s comment, it’s almost as if he can’t help himself when clinking glasses and raising his for a short sip. The response comes while the bitter, dry, yet ever aromatic taste of red wine is still on his lips:

”Isn’t that exactly what you are?” Just like the taste of wine is still there, so is his smirk. ”Your messages didn’t make you sound like someone who would deny that.”

Percy hadn’t intended to interact with anyone on this short walk of his, and to someone like him, interactions he is not prepared for can often be the most annoying and anxiety-inducing things there is. However, admittedly this short conversation with this stranger who hadn’t even given him his name hadn’t really been all that bad, and so, because of that simple yet undeniably fact, when he says he has to leave, the journalist gives an all too slight smile.

Rose-coloured mist coats the ground as if an ethereal carpet, swirling and almost making the Eevee completely disappear from sight in its depths. For a second, Percy worries, but it’s soon that Kayt’s pointed ears perk up – standing out in the swirling mist.

Apparently, there’s another pokémon nearby, and of course the Eevee is eager to meet them.

He trots happily towards the Florges, soon running circles around her, and in turn Percy chuckles, taking the gift the pokémon offers to him. ”Thank you.”

Perhaps the best part out of all this is seeing how much Kayt seems to be enjoying himself; running around through the maze’s winding paths and greeting every pokémon they encounter. There’s something terribly endearing about it, but then again, Percy has always had a soft spot for the Eevee that has been his companion since he was a teenager.

So, he follows after the small silver-coloured fox once more, this time until reaching a bored-looking Tsareena. Has she been waiting here long? Is it that not a lot of people have come this far? Admittedly, Percy tends to be fond of silence and solitude, so he may have found the lack of people so comfortable that he hadn't noticed their absence until now…

”Thank you.” He tells the Tsareena when taking the gift, all while Kayt looks up at her – the Eevee’s tail wagging and ears perked up. The Tsareena is seen as another friend to make, obviously.

”Come on, let’s go this way.” Calling for his companion’s attention, Percy brings out his phone, intending to take a few pictures of the maze just as he takes a turn towards… you guessed it… the path to the left.

Despite the fact that their job has absolutely nothing to do with combat situations, more than a couple of Percy’s pokémon are trained for battle. It makes sense, considering his past, but of course, that’s something he cares little for talking about. In fact, he’d gladly let BARNABY FINCH handle the actual combat portion of this sudden plan they had just come up with.

The Rotom zaps around excitedly, as if it were saying it’s ready to do whatever is asked of it, and that may just be true, considering that it’s the one pokémon that always helps Percy with his work.

Although, isn’t searching through data and possessing drones much different from luring Porygon out of the digital world where they often dwell? Surely Wisp can figure it out, no? Whatever the case, the Rotom is ready and heading for the first server room, so here’s to hoping BARNABY FINCH is too.

”Do you think it’s a targeted attack or that the Porygon escaped from somewhere?”

The question comes as they wait, both options being likely given where they work. But, apparently there’s not much time to discuss such things, because Wisp is efficient as ever, and soon enough, it’s with a flash of light that a Porygon appears before them.

The Lilligant’s delight at Kayt’s greeting affects even Percy’s mood, a slight yet all too real and honest smile reaching his lips when watching the brief interaction between both pokémon.

Does it help with traversing through the maze?

Maybe so, in its own way, for it does make some of the concerns raised by the dark depths of his mind temporarily vanish.

The appearance of the excited Jumpluff also helps.
[break][break]
Kayt looks up at the floating pokémon, greeting it with a few equally as excited ”Vee!”s and seeming unbothered by the fact that he can’t actually reach it. No surprise there, though. After all, Kayt is used to living with ghosts.

”I guess we’re sticking to the same choice, huh?” Percy asks out loud as he gently takes the gift offered by the Cottonweed Pokémon, and as if to respond to his words, the Eevee rushes forward once more…
