Pace takes a brief break from cleaning up - brushing his teeth, applying deodorant and tidying the place - to realise that his booty call is going to have to climb a ladder and walk the rope bridge to get here. Would that burn some of Percival Munn 's midnight oil before he even turned got in the door? Pace hoped not - if everything went well, he was looking forward to the next few hours.[break][break]

He was also deftly aware, though, that Percival Munn (HNN) was not the kind of guy who could be greeted with a lewd look and a description of exactly what Pace wanted to do to him, and agree to go to bed. He'd agreed to come over, sure, but he seemed the kind of guy who's dough needed a little more kneading. Some booze, some flirtations, some light touches.[break][break]

Why had he thought it would be a good idea to come here? Why had he agreed to all of this? Perhaps it had been a moment of weakness, perhaps it had been the fact that he actually enjoyed talking to Pace Mahmoud despite his relentless flirting, perhaps it had actually been the flirting that did it…

Regardless of the reason, he doesn’t need to climb any stairs once he arrives at Fortree, for the flying taxi conveniently lands on an empty platform high up in the treetops. As far as cities go, Fortree has always been unique – beautiful but terribly inconvenient, in Percy’s own opinion. Why anyone would ever willingly choose to live in a place like this escapes him, but there’s something interesting about it being the choice made by Pace…

Then again, maybe the thought is just a way to distract himself while walking to the address that had been given to him earlier.

He takes a deep breath once finally standing before the door, staring at it in hesitance for a few long seconds before finally ringing the doorbell.

The doorbell rings and Pace nearly jumps to it like an untrained puppy, so gleefully excited at the arrival of his hook-up. Was it the fact that it had required so much more effort than usual that excited him so much? Was it Percy himself, so elegantly poised and purposefully tactful with everything he said, practiced to perfection - and in turn, the idea of mussing all of that up and seeing him so inelegant? Whatever it was, it was a major turn on.[break][break]

He opens the door and smiles at his guest, inviting him in with a step aside and a brief hand wave in the direction of his place. Not the biggest or the fanciest, but it was neat and contained sweet little things that people might not associate Pace with - carefully cared-for houseplants, a book of prayers, a yoga mat.[break][break]

"Hey - how was your day?" He starts off gently, nodding towards the couch. Would it be fair to start by pinning Percy to the wall and leaving deep purple marks along his neck? No. Would it be hot? Yes. But it also, again, wouldn't be fair - and Pace, for all his whorey shortcomings, wanted people to be comfortable in his home.[break][break]

Pace pulls a bottle of wine from a cabinet and points it enticingly at his guest. "You okay with red? Also, can I just say- you look gorgeous tonight"

The first thing that greets him is a smile: bright, overly confident, and so gorgeous that it should be considered a crime. The worst part is that Pace Mahmoud is aware of it too, and that stupidly handsome as he is, he uses such things to his full advantage. Bastard.

Even if faintly, even if only for a second, it causes Percy to smile too. ”Hey. Not bad. Busy, but that’s the usual. How about yours?”

And, perhaps for the sake of his own sanity, he chooses to focus on the apartment instead of on Pace Mahmoud once he steps inside, knowing well that his thoughts would only wander to the conversation that lead to this visit – to the reasons Pace wanted him to come here.

”...Nice plants.” It’s not sarcasm but more like surprise, for who would have thought they would have something so seemingly insignificant in common? Then again, to Percy it’s far from that…

”Red is fine, yeah. I was wondering how long it would take you to say something like that.” It’s then and only then that Percy smirks, eyes of silver meeting gold, for the truth is that he too is all too aware of such things, but unlike Pace, it is rarely that he purposefully wields them as weapons. ”You do too.”

Percy smiles back, and Pace eats it up. It's faint, only a second long at most, but it's like glimpsing the sun through an overcast day. It's hard enough to not just kiss him right there, in fact, but despite the reason Pace asked Percy to come (and the reason Percy did indeed turn up), he had to hold himself back just a little. For now, at least.[break][break]

"Busy. Ew. At least you're here now, huh?" It's a little bit of a tease, considering they both know the reason that Percy's here. But it's also genuine - Pace hoped that he could provide some kind of chill for Percy to sink into, at the very least more than he got at HNN. "I've not been bad... pretty busy too. Mostly just been thinking about you. You like the plants?" He smiles innocently. "You garden?"[break][break]

A trademarked Pace tactic, of course - just throw in something quickly, thinking about you, and then gloss right over to the next thing. Pace enjoyed his plants, after all, it was like having a little green kid to look after.[break][break]

He pours them both a glass of wine, holds Percy's gaze and closes the gap between them as he heads over to hand Percy's drink over. "You make it sound like I'm some insatiable horndog" He grins, raises a brow and tips his glass towards Percy before taking a sip.

Percival Munn is studied in the art of overanalyzing every single word that comes out of someone else’s mouth, and such being the case, Pace’s passing and seemingly insignificant “been thinking about you” comment goes far from ignored, dismissed, or unnoticed. Looking at the ranger, he finds himself squinting just so slightly, and in doing so, he wonders if the comment had been made with the intent to flatter him or if it was something Pace said without much thought. Which would he prefer? Honestly, that’s a question which Percy doesn’t have the answer to. So, he doesn’t comment on it, of course.

”Yeah, I have a small tea garden at my place.” That and much else, because admittedly his houseplants are one of the things he’s truly proud of, but he doubts Pace would care at all to hear about all the different kinds or about how he has been trying his hand at at-home hydroponics.

He didn’t come here to talk about plants, after all.

That is something of which he’s reminded of with a look, a grin, and a glass of wine. And, even though he knows he probably shouldn’t do something as cruel as agree with Pace’s comment, it’s almost as if he can’t help himself when clinking glasses and raising his for a short sip. The response comes while the bitter, dry, yet ever aromatic taste of red wine is still on his lips:

”Isn’t that exactly what you are?” Just like the taste of wine is still there, so is his smirk. ”Your messages didn’t make you sound like someone who would deny that.”

Enough teasing for now. He takes another sip.

Gone are the days where Pace needed to overanalyse. This isn't life or death, creating contracts at a party and making sure whoever goes out to smoke doesn't make it back to the dancefloor. This is just love, flirting, fun, sex. It's calmer, more chilled - but Pace can never quite shut down the analysis entirely. He watches Percy's reaction with eyes outwardly relaxed, but pinpoint-focused like a hawk.[break][break]

He sees Percy squint slightly, neither of them saying a word. Pace smiles at the playfulness of it all - ducking and diving, weaving in and out.[break][break]

"That sounds adorable. Maybe I'll have to come have a taste, sometime."[break][break]

Does Pace consciously make every sentence into a euphemism? Not all the time, but quite often, yes. Why not, after all, when Percy reacts so silently to it? Pace isn't even sure if Percy's aware of it, the change is so slight. Just a millimetre flick of an eyebrow, the tiniest twitch of the corner of his lip. It's beguiling, to say the least, and Pace can't help but wonder how he'd look when overwhelmed.
Really overwhelmed.[break][break]

He drinks a little more of his drink than Percy does, but the warmth on both of their tongues is all the same anyway.[break][break]

"I am, but saying it so brazenly just seems cruel, don't you think?" He smirks back and takes a half-step closer, the gap between them shrinking just enough to be noticeable, but the warmth in the air and the knowing implication of their texts made it feel as though they were practically pressed together.[break][break]

"You're right, though, I won't deny it. I don't see any shame in knowing what I want and asking for it" He laughs gently, sizing Percy up and down for a moment or an hour. "When was the last time you asked, Mr HNN? Maybe it's a prejudgement, but you don't seem the type to be so blunt with requesting something you really want"
