"I think you'll find I beg quite well" He iced the conversation just barely with a dusting of sugar on his words, that little twinkle in his eye as he watched her take the stage with glee.[break][break]

While Pace may never had visited Kalos, he had met a few Kalosians in a previous life, and people always responded better if you knew a few choice words in their native tongue. Not nearly enough to even consider himself conversational, but the odd thing here and there. He wasn't unsurprised when Elisa had picked the song she had - just sultry enough to be hidden behind the façade of a cutesy smile.[break][break]

He leans back and watches the performance like the guest of honour at a gentleman's club - smoke in the air, the fanciest daiquiri nursing in his glass, half-dressed bunnies taking hors d'oeuvres from table to table. Pace was transported there as he watched her sing, completely ignoring the reality of the little tucked-away-around-the-corner café he was sat in.[break][break]

As Elisabeth's hips swayed to the melody, Pace's eyes equally swayed back and forward to catch them at every turn. She pointed to him, sung to him. He smirked back, delighted and hungry, and then she descended to meet him.[break][break]

The only man in the room.[break][break]

She finishes and drops her microphone on her, a laugh from both of them echoing drunkenly across the table. He hands the mic to a waitress who comes to retrieve it. Pace raises a brow at Elisabeth's question - it already had a very clear answer, didn't it? The way she teased her words feather-light made it seem like she knew the answer, as well, and Pace stood from his seat.[break][break]

"That was very impressive. You sing beautifully - ~~ma chérie~~" He grins and offers her his arm to hold. Partially because it was romantic and a way to break the touch barrier, and partially because he was sure they'd both appreciate the extra sturdiness of leaning on one another.[break][break]

"I've heard Slateport has some fancy hotels around, you know." It only takes a moment as he leans in and brushes a strip of blonde hair behind her ear, a faint whisper. "Spend the night with me, miss Elisabeth, if you'd be so kind"

Gone are the days where Pace needed to overanalyse. This isn't life or death, creating contracts at a party and making sure whoever goes out to smoke doesn't make it back to the dancefloor. This is just love, flirting, fun, sex. It's calmer, more chilled - but Pace can never quite shut down the analysis entirely. He watches Percy's reaction with eyes outwardly relaxed, but pinpoint-focused like a hawk.[break][break]

He sees Percy squint slightly, neither of them saying a word. Pace smiles at the playfulness of it all - ducking and diving, weaving in and out.[break][break]

"That sounds adorable. Maybe I'll have to come have a taste, sometime."[break][break]

Does Pace consciously make every sentence into a euphemism? Not all the time, but quite often, yes. Why not, after all, when Percy reacts so silently to it? Pace isn't even sure if Percy's aware of it, the change is so slight. Just a millimetre flick of an eyebrow, the tiniest twitch of the corner of his lip. It's beguiling, to say the least, and Pace can't help but wonder how he'd look when overwhelmed.
Really overwhelmed.[break][break]

He drinks a little more of his drink than Percy does, but the warmth on both of their tongues is all the same anyway.[break][break]

"I am, but saying it so brazenly just seems cruel, don't you think?" He smirks back and takes a half-step closer, the gap between them shrinking just enough to be noticeable, but the warmth in the air and the knowing implication of their texts made it feel as though they were practically pressed together.[break][break]

"You're right, though, I won't deny it. I don't see any shame in knowing what I want and asking for it" He laughs gently, sizing Percy up and down for a moment or an hour. "When was the last time you asked, Mr HNN? Maybe it's a prejudgement, but you don't seem the type to be so blunt with requesting something you really want"

"Can't blame you for the air condition, though uncontrolled environments can be fun sometimes" He watches Elliott for a moment. "Not a fan of not being in control, then?" He questions with a quirked eyebrow and a faint smirk. Is it psychoanalysis? Is it a flirtation method? Could it be both? Yes, yes, and yes.[break][break]

Shoots. A-ha. Ding! Point one for Pace.[break][break]

"Ahh, well there you go! You definitely have the looks for it. Face, body - no wonder you keep yourself in such good shape" Pace smiles sweetly as though he didn't just imply he'd been taking in Elliott's body, then moves on as quickly as he started.[break][break]

"I'm a ranger, myself. Not quite as glamourous as modelling, but I have been trying to get a charity calendar in the works. I think I'd make a pretty good Mister August."[break][break]

An Anorith peeks out from behind a tree, catching Pace's attention. Not the usual pokémon you'd find wandering about the routes, considering they were pretty extinct for a while. With a quick flash of wings, Ahaneith pinpoints in on the little fossil pokémon, and Pace accompanies it with a pokéball.

The young man shuffles a little to peer around Pace, and while he expects Barnaby to be sad at the eaten fish and not much else, he does in fact begin to point at something.[break][break]

"What's what?" Pace asks, spinning to follow Bee's finger and cock his head a little as his gaze scans over the area surrounding the pond. Just there, he noticed as a ray of sun trickled over it, something glinted - just faintly enough to be easily missed earlier, but in the few minutes they'd been chatting the sun had changed it's position and caught off the little clue perfectly.[break][break]

"Well, damn" Pace laughs as his partner for the mini-mystery clocks in officially, rising from his blanket and heading out to investigate. He followed indeed, more than happy to let the handsome man walk in front - why waste a perfectly good view, after all? - and arrived at the rim of the pond.[break][break]

"Lucky me, having a gorgeous assistant for the day, huh?" Pace chuckles, leaning against a low wall as Piankh settles herself against his leg. "Anything interesting?"

"Every dream has a hint of truth to it, no?" He chuckles, then, in response to her own quip. "Men like me? I don't know what you're talking about. You mean handsome, kind, innocent men who are being slandered for no reason?"[break][break]

She leans forward, that gentle body composition of a panther. Utterly trained, Elisabeth knows exactly how to position herself - eyes focusing at the perfect places, fingers just so. She reminded him of himself, then, was it? Was that the reason he felt so drawn to her? He could see the bird quite plainly, but there was some remnant of the cage on her, as well, perhaps only spiritually.[break][break]

"Men, women, whatever - it doesn't matter all that much to me. I can't help but adore beauty, you know? But you're right" He tuts for a moment, as though playfully chastising her for picking up everything he's been putting down throughout their meeting. "A masochist... such a dirty word for it. Is it so wrong to want to raise up my partners, to let them look down on me as if I worshipped them?" He smirks and takes a long sip, holding her gaze steadily as he does so.[break][break]

"You could say drowning is just loving the ocean too much, after all" He laughs as soon as it leaves his lips - faux poetry at it's finest. The kind of thing a teenage girl would post on her tumblr blog. Pace loved to speak this way, though, no matter how silly it could be. [break][break]

As he chuckles and drinks again, she removes the coat. He wonders, then - did she feel his eyes on her, undress from the gazing heat? Is it just warmth from the alcohol, or perhaps, he thinks, she wishes to be seen. It would be cruel, then, not to see her.[break][break]

Pace's eyes wander across her body, her chest, across the black stretched across her skin that fits just tight enough. Two buttons undone at the top set his mind to thinking about the others, undone by him - by his teeth, one by one, in a hotel room, as his hand finds her thigh. But that's diving in too deep all at once, isn't? Like she said - desperate to drown. But if the water was Elisabeth Fiorelli, he'd let it into his lungs in avidity. [break][break]

"I'd love to hear you sing, Elisabeth. I bet everyone here would appreciate a real songstress, for once, too" He raises a brow alongside his glass, pointing it towards the empty stage. "That microphone's calling you, I reckon. Go put on a show" He smiles, a warm encouragement in his eyes. No challenge - he doesn't doubt at all that Elisabeth would be able to dazzle, even at some little karaoke place like this.

Derek's Hatterene takes up the mantle of healer, aiming to cleanse out the poison that still burnt at the wound in Pace's arm. Between the sweet smell and the gentle care of it's moves, Pace feels the heat disipating from his injury. He gives a little sigh of relief, and a nod at Derek. "Thanks"[break][break]

But the lack of poison only lasts a short while, as across the area Kaida is caught in a storm of dripping gunk from the Naganadel. "Shit, Adachi's-" He starts, but Bo beats him to the call, then crunches up the earth with his Heatran. Jags of earth slam up from beneath the soil and the chunks of sand billow around the giant beasts. If it had been a different situation, it would have been a shame to see everything torn up this way, but desperate times.[break][break]

"I'm good - better" He calls back to boruta maher . It's true - the tenderness and throbbing heat is all-but gone, though the wound itself stills remains just faintly, like a scar.[break][break]

Everyone's throwing their everything at the beasts - it must nearly be time, now. It must be. The things were huge and devastatingly powerful, but everything the rangers had had been thrown at them.[break][break]

To take Akhenaten's place, Pace sends out Nitocris. The Crobat stretches it's wings before taking off towards the Naganadel, aiming a Confuse Ray at the beast. Naganadel sways for a moment before raising a clawed hand towards the Crobat, and Pace internally cringes - not her, please.[break][break]

Naganadel launches forward to connect it's attack, only managing in it's confusion to collide with the side of the temple, a claw smacking into the back of the Kartana, instead.[break][break]

"Yes!" Pace calls out - the best case scenario. Damages itself, damages the other beast, misses Nito entirely. Between the slice from the Naganadel and the great Hammer Arm from Derek's Metagross, the Kartana hesitates for a second. It faces them, then the Naganadel, then the building behind it. Swiftly as paper in a breeze, it disappears into the great open doorway to the temple. Still confused, but not wishing it's enemy to escape, the Naganadel follows suit.[break][break]

"They're heading deeper in - do we follow?" He calls, turning back to the group.

Rangers got called in for some weird things sometimes. Nesting pokémon too close to a popular campsite, scared baby on some main road that needs to be reunited with it's mother, angry stomping thing that needed to be calmed down? All pretty fine, all pretty common. Getting Pangoro to fuck? Significantly less common.[break][break]

I mean, who else could possibly be better at the job, right? Pace had the skills to pay the bills when it came to the art of love, and if some pandas wanted to learn from his wily ways, who was he to say no?[break][break]

He arrives and waves to the young woman already waiting who, as it happens, was very cute. Did Pace immediately put on the charm and act like Don Juan? Yes. Yes, he does. He's a man in uniform, after all, who didn't love that?[break][break]

"Hey there - Miss Glynn, right? I'm here to help out with whatever you need"[break][break]

Was it a little on the nose? Absolutely. But hey, Pace was never one for subtlety.

Percy smiles back, and Pace eats it up. It's faint, only a second long at most, but it's like glimpsing the sun through an overcast day. It's hard enough to not just kiss him right there, in fact, but despite the reason Pace asked Percy to come (and the reason Percy did indeed turn up), he had to hold himself back just a little. For now, at least.[break][break]

"Busy. Ew. At least you're here now, huh?" It's a little bit of a tease, considering they both know the reason that Percy's here. But it's also genuine - Pace hoped that he could provide some kind of chill for Percy to sink into, at the very least more than he got at HNN. "I've not been bad... pretty busy too. Mostly just been thinking about you. You like the plants?" He smiles innocently. "You garden?"[break][break]

pace's curry entry, ft. Martín del Mar

thread summary -

pace is called out to an aggron sighted in petalburg woods to go help the big dude out, but comes across mars. due to their shared history - namely pace's direct involvement in the plot to murder mars' wife - things come to a head, involving mega evolution, guns, and setting the woods on fire.

why is it important? -

pace has always been the kind of person who gets away with a lot of stuff - he hurts people's feelings by sleeping around, he's lazy, he doesn't finish anything he starts; but he can get away with it by charm, or sweet-talking, or plain old charisma.

but with regard to natalia's death, there's really nothing he can do to get away from the fact that his actions caused one of his best friends to die, and his other best friend to grieve deeply as well as hate his guts. it eats him up inside, but even here, in this thread, he tries to shrug off the responsibility and make excuses.

the first time properly meeting face-to-face since her death, and mars and pace are bringing out the worst in eachother already :monkas: this is a plot arc that'll continue to grow and build, and this is definitely one of the lower points

Mars looks down at him and Pace doesn't see a single moment of doubt of hesitation, nor regret. He had expected that much - Mars was never going to have Pace on the ground like then and then wince as though the pain was his own, not now. But there was no smirk, no satisfaction taken in Pace's defeat... this was something deeper, not so much emotionless as it was numb.[break][break]

Pace had expected bloodlust - something wild to come alive in Mars' eyes as Pace was laid vulnerable, and to finally snuff him out, finally pay him back. But it just... didn't come.[break][break]

Instead, he pulls out a gun. [break][break]

This is it, then, Pace thinks. The Urshifu's strike was humiliation, but this is the real blow. There was so much he had never done, never said - so many people and lives and journeys he never got to experience. It hits him all very hard, if not unconsciously, so he doesn't even realise he's welling up beneath the barrel of the gun.[break][break]

His tongue stings metallic, likely a remnant of the hit to the gut he's received just moment before. The air is hot with adrenaline and creeping flames, and smells thick with iron - though maybe that's the blood in his throat.[break][break]

"I never made the order to kill her" Pace spits a wad of red to the floor beside him, looks up past the gun to make direct eye contact with it's wielder, as though the barrel didn't exist. If he was going to shoot him, he should damn well get it over with. Pace couldn't regret what he did any more than he already does.[break][break]

"Anything I could have done would've ended badly - my death, hers or yours. You know that"[break][break]

Mars replies, so cold that the flames seem to peel away from him for a moment, ifrits yanking the heat back like hit with dry-ice. It seeps into Pace's head, and then he walks away into scarlet. [break][break]

Pace lays in the dirt for a minute or an hour, wondering if maybe Mars had pulled the trigger anyway. No bang, no great shot of pain - but why, then, was it so hard just to stand? The heat spreads like a blanket. Processing feels like it could take months; would it be so wrong to lay in wait of it?[break][break]

A flash of light, then, from his hip, and Nefertiti releases herself from her pokéball. Her figure heavenly against the backdrop of hell, she nuzzles at his pained side and roars out into the sky. With a hand on her side, Pace heaves himself to his feet and allows her to guide him out of the forest. [break][break]

He marks the mission as a failure, shrugs in answer to questions, and takes the week off.

Quite a lot happened at once. Multiple pokemon slam into the barrier - the ultra beasts both, as well as boruta maher 's Aerodactyl, and two very different things happen at once. First, the Naganadel and Kartana grow, and grow, and grow - larger than either of them could ever have been by any natural causes. Pace stares, wide-eyed, having never seen this phenomenon again, but the Aerodactyl's fate is the worst of all, the sounds of ripping and crunching as it's body deforms - as well as it's cries of pain - leaving it an inanimate mush by the edge of the barrier.[break][break]

Arceus.[break][break]

In another time, Pace might have freaked out, thrown up, even - the smell was disgusting enough on it's own, without having seen the thing turn inside out with his own eyes. But right now, it just made him... angry. Like something was boiling in his blood, seething from the purple-tinged wound on his arm. It was concerning, to say the least. He takes another look at it and winces, then calls out.[break][break]

"Little help over here? I got hit - poison"[break][break]

It would end better if he didn't just grin and bear it, after all, but it still comes out a little snappier than he'd intended.[break][break]

Despite taking time to look after himself, Pace is also painfully aware of the massive fucking dudes that still, even in their new sizes, aimed for each other's throats. He looks to the Pyroar at his side and nods - a little technique they'd practiced before. It was risky, but it could help if needed... and they really needed some help right now.[break][break]

Akhenaten bounds forward with little care, taking a wayward attack from one of the gigantic beasts as if it were nothing more than a fly being smacked away by a Mudsdale's tail. Though Pyroar's knocked to the side and obviously damaged, it manages to let out a great roar - an Endeavor - aimed at the Kartana. Even if it's health had grown with it's size, an endeavour at this level should at least half it out... surely?[break][break]

The giant Kartana takes the hit, and responds in kind - two great razor-sliced shuriken head for Akhenaten, who takes one to the flank and one across the nose before falling to the ground with a thud, then swiftly returned to his ball.

I know everything about you, he wanted to say. It was true, once, but there had been years since, and a lot can happen in such a short time. In fact...[break][break]

Akhenaten takes the full force of the Hydro Pump, his mane all-but steaming out entirely. He hits the floor hard, and Pace calls him back into a pokéball before anything else can make another, more fatal, move. The Pyroar's flame grows around them, smoke billowing off of the trees as it creeps up their barks and through their boughs, spreading ever outwards like a glowing, burning rot. It reflects in Mars' eyes, mirrors into the Phlegethon. There was so much rage. [break][break]

Pace doesn't think before he acts, never has, and before his mind can process it he's yelling out and charging towards Mars like a beast gone wild. What he hopes to achieve from it is a mystery - he would never kill Mars, let alone for something like this, but he knew he couldn't speak for the opposite. He'd seen Mars work - he's killed for less.[break][break]

His stupid plan is cut short - he barely takes a few steps before the Urshifu connects, hard. The pokémon's fist finds his abdomen in one swift movement, and it knocks all the wind out of him at once. The pain stuns him, and Pace's legs collapse beneath him as his body hits the floor. He stares up into the canopy, dark writhing at the edges of his vision from the sudden shock and the pain. The sky, in it's blurry scarlet, glows angry like the gates of hell.[break][break]

"You're a cunt, Mars" He growls out, like hot coals, and finds the strength to clutch his stomach. "But... I never meant for..." For what? For all of this? For Natalia's death? It wouldn't do much to help him, now - it would only take a few commands for the Urshifu to crack his head open like a walnut.[break][break]

Mars' figure stands before the burning foliage like the guardsman of hell and hatred. His silhouette is black against the flames, and he stands stock-still, even now confident as the world burns around him. The thought dawns suddenly - I don't think he's ever going to stop. And why would he? Before stands him Mars, Ares, Tyr.[break][break]

O' Lover of war.[break]
Have you razed too many fields[break]
chasing hungry shadows to see the[break]
lives that flourish behind you?[break][break]

Pace stares up into the eyes of war and lets his face fall.[break][break]

"Don't kill me. Mars."

At the first half of Percy's comment, he chuckles a little - he doesn't think him that uptight. At the second part, though, where Mr Munn (HNN) implies such cruel things about him, draws out a real laugh. "Is it so wrong, Percy? Maybe I like it when you tease me. Maybe I find it incredibly hot. Who knows! I do definitely enjoy talking t you, so if teasing and mocking is a part of that, then count me in" [break][break]

Teasing implications can only go so far, right? Pace can't help himself. He reaches a certain level and it's all too much, like a cat getting zoomies after eating. Tell Percy he loves speaking to him and finds him hot is really Pace being gentle, he could have - and wants to - say much, much worse. Would it frighten Percy off? He's not sure, but a part of him doesn't want to take that chance.[break][break]

Pace follows his instincts almost animalistically - whims govern everything, from where he lives to who he fucks. Percy picks on the phrase, is that surprise playing in his speech? Pace smiles. "It seems like it has. There's some beautiful places in Hoenn, good job prospects, some really wonderful people." He holds his gaze pointedly.[break][break]

"Ah. It is late... what a shame, right?" He sands up, dusts himself off a little. Perhaps, in the dim glow of the fireplace, he notices Percy's faintly-pinkened cheeks, but he doesn't comment on it. He offers him an arm, instead - a grin plastered alongside it as though it's a joke, but he really does mean it.[break][break]

He almost says something more. [break][break]

I'll pay for the taxi, let's head back to mine. [break][break]

Kiss me, now, hard. [break][break]

You're beautiful.[break][break]

But it fades in the night air like a sunset, lust's wavering corona overpowered by something else that tastes a little sweeter. He smiles at Percy and offers to pay for his cab home, offers him his phone.[break][break]
