“Mareanie?” Naturally, he did not fully understand what this woman was talking about. But it did not matter. It did get to shake tentacles. Well, in a way. The other was trying to use snow as a catalyst, in order to not get more poison into her system. That was sad. Humans just did not know what was good for them. That was what the mistress always said. And it was right. Clearly, the poison did not truly hurt this woman or anything like that. She seemed reasonably fine as was. Hence, there would be no issue with getting more. And yet, she tried to prevent that.

It was saddening. But Mareanie was a good Pokemon. Mareanie was a smart Pokemon.

Mareanie knew more than one move, too. Hence, as they shook hands, she looked the other in the eyes, smiled happily – and then barfed a Venom Drench right into the other’s face from close-up. Asssuming that it would hit, such, it would then happily spin around, as if making a little dance of hers. “Mar Mar Marrrrr,” she exclaimed joyfully, spreading the good old Christmas cheer. It might not have been cute charm, but it would have been very effective on a fairy. That was pretty much the same in Mareanie’s eyes.

“MAREANIE!” It clearly yelled at the top of its lungs, as if trying to make sure that everyone heard. And why not? It didn’t know of whatever had happened in Snowbelle City, other than some passing notion of her trainer that someone named Wulfric lived there, so it could not possibly incorporate any of that into its actions. Instead, it was simply happy that is ploy had worked, hopping left and right through the snow in pure, unbridled joy. It had not used its most potent toxins on the human, fortunately, just enough to give her dizziness, sore limbs and a healthy slight purple colouration.

Yes, yes, another member indoctrinated into the Mareanie corps. Hopefully, she could infect more people in this snowfield, too. “Mareanie. Ma-Mareanie?” Turning towards the human, all tentacles upraised in what seemed like a quizzical gesture. The human seemed to neither be mad, nor angry at the injection. That was odd. Usually Pokemon and humans reacted properly instead of doing whatever this was. “Mar Mar.” Crossing its tentacles as if it had made a decision, the small usually aquatic Pokemon focused on the human again.

Intently staring, she then began to hop towards the human again, tentacle raised. She was seemingly trying just to shake hands with the other. Only its hand was a stinger, and it was very much trying to give the other another dose, mistakenly believing that she had somehow not managed to do what she’d set out to do before. After all, her poison might sting, but it also very much kept others warm, too.

Some Pokemon liked making small snowballs. Some Pokemon liked making big snowballs. And a very select few Pokemon liked being big snowballs. Such was the case with one Mareanie that was present on that day, doing her own thing while her trainer was distracted with something else. The small white and purple Pokemon knew how to blend in with surroundings of this kind, after all. And even though the climate was very different from what it was used to, it did reasonably fine. Her trainer had let her out specifically to build up some resistance to the cold, after all.

And what better way was there to increase resistance than to surround oneself in a coat of snow and simply roll around, towards a random, unsuspecting human, a certain redhead in this case. It knew that it would likely sow simple confusion with this but that in and of itself was good. People and Pokemon were curious, after all. The Mareanie-ball would likely get touched for this reason – and it had already prepared its poisonous tentacles to make anyone who dared to do so pay for it. After all, she did not have to deal with that kind of harassment. She was well in her rights to defend herself. Just rolling around did not allow others to just touch her, after all.

The third scion of a wealthy family from Johto, Shizu only knew strict, performance-driven life during her formative years. Fortunately, her parents expected little from her and due to her natural talent for natural science, she manage to coast by until everyone was so busy that they shipped her off to boarding school at the first opportunity. A prestigious boarding school, sure, but one that di give her the freedom to structure life in her own way – and that allowed her to early on focus on her primary field of interest, chemistry.[break] [break]

Studying natural compounds alongside the Pokemon that made them from her teens onwards led her to some interesting discoveries. And the accidental poisoning of fellow students. Somehow, she was just as adept at making things that smelled really nice as she was at making those that made others sick. Which, eventually, she turned into a career after falling in with a benefactor that allowed her to progress further on both fields. One who, coincidentally or not, was also a member of team Rocket. Shizu honestly joined more by accident without even knowing, for she kind of drifted through life, simply obsessing with what she cared about and letting other things work themselves out. And if she got praised for her work? That was all the better. These days, she is somewhat well known for her work on perfumes as something of a mercenary scientist in the field, creating those for one company or another. Though in secret she naturally still heeds the call of Rocket when it reaches her.
