He capped his bottle before setting it aside once more, quickly slipping a hand into his pockets for enough of a moment to fish his phone out. While one hand remained upon it to begin scrolling, the other lifted to quickly ensure the earbud within it was still secure.[break][break]

”Yeah, he should be fine. Nah, he shouldn’t give a Rattata’s flyin’ fuckin ass ‘bout it,” he shot back, his brows and face furrowing and scrunching all the more while the words left his lips. He clicked his tongue a few times before seemingly settling on a song, tapping the button upon his device before tucking it away once more. ”Fine with bein’ bench pressed? Fuckin’ good fer ya— good fer both of ya.”[break][break]
He rested his hands onto his knees for a moment before pushing himself back onto his feet, glaring down towards her with a touch of disinterest.[break][break]

His face scrunched instinctively as he thought on her response a bit more; a gesture that initially started as a means of thought, though almost immediately became fueled by nothing short of an annoyance. Maybe it was on her behalf, or maybe it was just because he was that annoyed at the thought of it all.[break][break]

A small, scoffing snort left his lips at her initial response.[break][break]

”Yeah, yer right. Ain’t fuckin’ matter.”[break][break]

It was a world he could care less about, anyways.[break][break]

Lowly humming, his eyes narrowed further as he peered through the varied sources and pages she’d so graciously gone out of her way to fashion for him. Before long, he shifted his gaze further along one of the pages—closer to where his finger resided—before ultimately reaching over and hooking his hand beneath its spine and curling his fingers upon the top of the booklet. He spared her a small glare from the corner of his eyes before looking back down at the images and texts, pulling the compiled sources from her and setting them into his lap.[break][break]

”Ain’t that I care, just that it’s curious as fuck.” He tapped his thumb against the edge of the pages, pursing his lips slightly in thought beneath the mask upon his face. ”Ya literally got the outline of her daily life, fer fuck’s sake.”[break][break]

His gaze broke from the pages once more, returning to meet hers for a second time from the corner of his eye.[break][break]

”Either yer close with her, or yer dirty enough t’be good at pryin’ into shit ya shouldn’t have access to.”[break][break]

Honestly speaking, there were a number of things she could’ve told him, but no matter what, there would always be some amount of judgment. The silence was a bit foreboding, in his opinion, but it wasn’t like he could do too much to speed her response anymore than however long she was taking, so he eyed her for a while longer before looking back down at the bottle he held.[break][break]

He began to tilt his head back for another drink, though paused for a moment as the words met his ears.[break][break]

Staring at one of the many mirrors held upon the walls some ways away, he narrowed his eyes before a small smirk tugged upon his lips. His head moved back the small, slight amount needed in order to properly take a sip again.[break][break]

”Yer self conscious ‘bout bein’ strong.” The words left his lips with no shortage of judgment, the ego accompanying them almost implying a sense of shrewdness. ”And yer lettin’ yerself get down fer someone that’s that threatened by ya?”[break][break]

He scoffed, glaring towards her once more with a sidelong look.[break][break]

As someone that personally knew the struggle around training oneself from the ground up, the process was ingrained in his mind. As someone that saw so many other people from the ground up, the process was ingrained in his mind. He was well aware about how people were bound to have their off days, and how shaking the rust off after being benched for so long would need a while, but—[break][break]

The taste of blood lingered upon his lips.[break][break]

It was a taste long familiarized, truthfully— one he’d even say he grew fond of, over the years. As he glared upon the reflection set before him, he ran a thumb along the bend of his jaw within a careful, tender manner; hues of amber narrowing within a faint grimace as a softened hiss left his lips.[break][break]

Familiarity had never been synonymous with painless, after all.[break][break]

Yet it was his choice to get tangled with his own business before more business. The fights were lulling, from what short glimpses he could steal upon the ring after he’d arrived. The audience needed something to rile them up; something to get his fighters to set an expectation for. Done and done, really— but at both his expense and pleasure, all the same.[break][break]

He’d left the ring back within the hands of one of his right hands soon after; the selfsame hands that took charge of that particular establishment in his stead in order to spread accountability in the worst case. The fights raged on beneath his feet some floors below, blockaded only by the varied auditory precautions he’d taken with forming the place, altogether— a sharp contrast to the peace of the room he’d excused himself to. He inhaled deeply, running his tongue along the wounds within his mouth absentmindedly before turning towards the door.[break][break]

He glared towards it with a touch of pensiveness and impatience, alike, before ultimately sighing and taking a seat nearby— though not without giving the canids sharing the room a smooth along the heads in passing.[break][break]

”Fuckin’ wastin’ m’goddamn time…” he groaned under his breath, leaning his head back. ”Bastards better not be blockin’ ‘em from gettin’ in…”

In all the fucked up shit he’d seen and thought of in the past, he’d never thought that meeting one—let alone both—of the selfsame mythos he’d heard about so many times growing up would become a reality. Honestly speaking, the briefing beforehand met his ears loud and clear, and same went for whatever evidence or bullshit Rocket’s upper crust went over before the mission went live.[break][break]

It hadn’t stopped him from being skeptical, but hey.[break]
There he was, right in the middle of everything, bearing witness to legends upon legends, all the same.[break][break]

Yet despite his normal nature, he knew how to pick his fights. The objective was to claim any and all of the beasts before him— but as things stood, he figured there would be more than an ample chance to tag onto that idea. Later. Later, when the League had paid their blood dues; later, when anyone and everyone had done all they could to hinder both sides of the conflict. Play dirty. Steal the kill.[break][break]

In the end, a win was a win, no matter how dishonorable.[break][break]

So he, alongside his Cinderance, kept a keen eye upon the conflict as it ignited within a blaze of chaotic proportions; its cacophonies of blitz and battle clashing so readily—so vigorously—amidst the scrape of metals against metals to further sound the boorish symphonies of the battlefield and its hardships. Hues of amber burned beneath the cover of his attire, alongside the mask accompanying it, before shifting forward towards the path before him, only barely managing to reach out to the fragments that suddenly blew past him before finding shuddering at the mercy of the sound that resonated throughout the field.[break][break]

His knees buckled before he could even realize what happened.[break]
He stumbled enough to break his sprint, though gathered his bearings as the flashes of memoriam and hypothetical futures singed his mind.[break][break]

Weakness. Loss. Anything and everything that threatened the very foundation of his being— it reverberated within him as vigorously as the gong causing it did. It lingered within his chest, though soon burned within a surge of warmth; of frustration; of rage.[break][break]
