[attr="class","star2"] It was addictive, really, the way they seemed to naturally fold into one another. Perhaps Kosei didn’t understand it or believe it, but there was as much molding and reshaping for his part as well. Or at least, now there was. It had been something that Enzo had managed to resist when they were younger, even if the want to cave had been there– present and stubbornly hidden away.[break][break]

There was something that tugged at him, in the way Kosei had initially been so eager for contact, for even the barest affection before Enzo had screwed that up. Rather than nurture it, he’d quashed it before it could really flourish. It was a regret he’d apologize for. Though later, because the need that seemed to bubble up to the surface between them now with their misunderstandings cleared away was a thoroughly distracting beast.[break][break]

Sleepy eyes fluttered open at the suggestion, lips twisting in obvious amusement while still pressed to the others. Tilting his head, Enzo craned forward enough to drift away, down the side of his neck, words hastily muttered in between each messy kiss. “You mean,” oh, he was a bit short of breath too, wasn’t he? “you don’t want to just make out on the couch like randy teenagers?”[break][break]

Bit of a rhetorical question, really. Because as he continued to kiss and nip at whatever skin he could find, his hands dragged back down and curved under Kosei’s thighs as Enzo leaned forward and propelled himself up, hoisting the other with him. It wasn’t an easy feat, given that despite his own strength, Kosei was still the better built of the two of them. But it was managed with relative ease and his lips returned to the others as his eyes slivered open a second time.[break][break]

“Don’t know where I’m going, so you’ll have to tell me.” Though, admittedly, the urge to just press him against the nearest wall was a bit formidable as well.

At one time, Enzo might’ve found himself at a place like Walpurgisnacht readily and enthusiastically. That was a relic of a bygone era. At what point his desire to go clubbing had diminished, Enzo couldn’t rightfully say for sure. All he knew now as he passed through the doors to the darkened space was that he felt old. He had plans with Kosei Kiryu later, and was eager for the laidback aspect of it.[break][break]

It also felt important, however, to carve out some time to interact with Yumi Hasegawa in a setting that wasn’t The Nimbus itself. Enzo simply hadn’t factored in the apparent development that he was now boring.[break][break]

“No particular reason.” Enzo shrugged loosely as his own gaze traveled over the interior decor. “It is nearby, and I’ve never bothered to visit. Perhaps curiosity, if anything.”[break][break]

It certainly wasn’t his flavor of aesthetic, though at one time it might have been. He might’ve suggested that it was an opportunity to scope out the competition that the Nimbus might have within Mossdeep when it came to choice in drinking establishment, but:[break][break]

1) This was meant to be off the clock socializing.[break]
2) He didn’t feel particularly concerned. The ‘vibes’ were totally different—as the kids liked to say.[break][break]

Once again, he was struck with the sense that he was getting old. The kids?? “Want anything in particular?” he asked, head tilting toward the crowded bar.

At some point, he’d sunk further down, stray wisps of long hair floating on the surface of the water. He didn’t need noise to fill the quiet, and he didn’t feel the need to continue provoking Kosei. This was comfortable and soothing. And it would go a long way to energizing him for tomorrow’s job, because he was bound to sleep like the dead once his head hit the pillow later that night.[break][break]

Emphasis, however, on later.[break][break]

Groggily, his eyes slivered open when Kosei spoke. An edge to his tone that said okay, I’ve humored you long enough. Impatient as ever. Enzo shifted upward, torso rising out of the steaming water as droplets wicked down over his shoulders and chest. Stark against his tattoos. Lazy and content, he yawned and then rolled his shoulders back. A satisfied huff followed upon hearing the relieving crack of his bones and joints.[break][break]

“My big relaxation plans?” A brow rose as he looked over at Kosei, “nothing fancy, though I guess it might be earth shaking for you.” That coy smirk returned, curling the corners of his mouth as he reached for his towel and rose up out of the water, slowly and loose limbed. “We’re gonna go to the bar down the street, get some cheap bar food and get lit up.”[break][break]

Tying the towel around his waist, he looked back over his shoulder, “How many rule breaks would that be for you, huh puppy?”

Enzo sighed, looking up at him through droopy-lidded eyes. His palms carved heavy trails over warm skin, smoothing over defined muscle. “We can figure out the details later,” he murmured instead of pushing it further, following the rise of need thrum under the surface. “We have all the time in the world.” Right then, he found that he wanted to revel in this shift in their dynamic. Something that felt strangely like actual commitment, and not just the unpredictable tangles they’d been more accustomed to in the past.[break][break]

At that particular moment, he wasn’t really and truly trying to be unreadable to the other. If anything, he’d thought that he’d been more open than he had in ages, but he was too focused now on the press of teeth to Kosei’s bottom lip, and the hooked curve of his own grin. He wouldn’t say that his heart went pitter pat at the confession, but it would be a lie to say that Kosei’s claim didn’t spur something in him. Lit a fire inside that had until then been subsisting on barely warm embers.[break][break]

“In that case,” he rasped in between the press of their mouths, “I’m grateful that you found your way back to me, Kos. I was waiting. No one else felt right.” Not that he’d been looking for anything more than passing fancys in that time. Certainly not any sort of long term attachment. Perhaps there’d more to that than he’d initially thought.[break][break]

The hands on Kosei’s hips grasped harder, trying to pull him closer, flush against him. He nipped at the other’s lip, tugging at it before angling his head to deepen the connection. Low sound rumbled in the back of his throat, audible wanting. His hands climb and then dragged down his back before one slipped free to tangle in long, dark hair.[break][break]

His own face pressed against the palm cradling it. Despite the intentional slowing of their pace, Enzo’s touch remained sturdy and heavy—set on leaving an impression behind. Emphatic in showing Kosei exactly what this meant to him.

Do you have the time right now, or should we set up a meeting at a later time? I do have a mock up contract already presentable.”[break][break]

All the same, he offered his arm to her. It was up to Yumi whether or not she wanted to see to business immediately or remain at leisure. But of course, as the saying went, it would do her well to strike while the iron was hot.[break][break]

His face remained pleasantly neutral, however, as he didn’t intend to give away that particular caveat. He hadn’t quite decided just yet how much of a time limit he wished to set, or what the expiration date on his implied offer might be.

Well, no. She wasn’t wrong about that, actually. It was more that he was disinterested in how she intended herself to factor into the implication. Mascara-heavy lashes bat at him a few times, and Enzo smiled back–polite and detached. The formality of his job was the only thing that kept the lacquered smile from slipping off of his face so that he might inform her that she’d be much better off finding some other sap to entice.[break][break]

Instead– “Of course, why would I wish to miss an event I coordinated?”[break][break]

Painted lips pressed into a soft pout. That time, she didn’t even bother to hide the sulkiness behind her glass. “Boo. Surely we could find a better means of entertainment…”[break][break]

Still, she was persistent. He had to hand it to her– maybe she’d do well in sales with that level of cling-wrap consistency. Press something long enough, and she’d get the customer to buy something out of exasperation to get her out of their space. It was likely how she managed to get her way, and now she was disused to hearing the word no. Enzo supposed he could relate to that as well, unfortunately.[break][break]

But he did happen to know someone who was an expert at saying no regardless. So his gaze turned about the room again, pinpointing Kosei with laser focus before bee-lining in his direction. He didn’t bother attempting to excuse himself– based on several prior interactions, she would only wander back again.

[attr="class","star2"] Of course, he also didn’t fail to notice the ever-looming approach of the meteor. Most days, Enzo did his best to simply ignore it–he had work to take care of, after all. A daily set of tasks to attend to and meetings to conduct. Though naturally the closer it drew, the easier it was to feel like he was liable to become nothing but a smudge on the ground.[break][break]

And Enzo didn’t care for being diminished in any capacity. Even by an inanimate hunk of space rock.[break][break]

So the order of business was to continue each day as if nothing were amiss, and that evening was no exception. “An admirable goal,” he remarked, “I can say I understand the sentiment.”[break][break]

It was how he’d come to build up The Nimbus. So that he could have something that was his, when all he’d known in his youth were too many grabbing hands. The end result being his own empty palms.[break][break]

“You know,” he lead, turning his attention away from the party around them and back to her, “outside of consumer reviews, and general business circulation, The Nimbus has a rather small social media presence.” His brow rose, wondering if he might need to spell it out further.

“Tetchy,” he hummed back, smirk widening just so. “Stubborn as ever.” That was fine, if anything it posed as much challenge for himself. And Enzo wasn’t the sort to shy away from one.[break][break]

He could’ve made matters worse— tilted inward until his lips ghosted over skin with more teasing words, but he would save that for later. He did, unfortunately, still have his job to do. As much as he would’ve liked to have turned them right back around to his room. And maybe he was also a little proud of what had been accomplished, and what he could show Kosei.[break][break]

Even there was another part of him that still wished this had remained theirs. The joint effort they’d managed to establish together. So perhaps it was tinged bittersweet as well.[break][break]

Parting from Kosei as the other drifted toward the nearest server with drinks that he could find, Enzo took to doing what he always did— which was circulating and greeting those who had shown up to enjoy the festivity, and the finery of the place.[break][break]

There was, of course, though always the spare patron who chose to cling like a burr, drifting into his orbit and refusing to be shaken loose, no matter his effort to resume his polite mingling.[break][break]

Tonight it was a blonde, frequent in her visits to the restaurant on the main floor. Making eyes over the rim of her champagne flute with remarks she thought were witty, and hovering as he moved to greet those still filtering through the door. A touch at his elbow which earned no more than a polite smile and a mild huff under his breath.[break][break]

Though…[break][break]

An inconspicuous glance was cast back over his shoulder, a look for any sign of Kosei and if he might be watching from a sulky distance. Though by that point it was more a silent cry for assistance than a means of riling him up. There was no telling how the other would interpret it, however.

If only possible because of the fact that most things were more comfortable when done with Kosei.[break][break]

What a sap he was becoming.[break][break]

Another rogue shiver darted up his spin as teeth grazed the vulnerable spot on his neck, and in spite of his pride and sense of independence, his head tilted back to better expose the spot. Even though Kosei didn’t linger, it was still a relenting display, and one that Enzo rarely (if ever,) offered up. To anyone. “It’s alright, you cleared it up just fine,” he teased.[break][break]

His hands drifted down, settling on Kosei’s waist instead. Idly, his fingers twined the hem of his shirt around before slipping up underneath the fabric instead, affording better grip and the heat of skin. “Yes, complications,” he repeated, not missing the slightest hint of petulance in Kosei’s tone. “You can’t deny that both of our standings make things a bit difficult.”[break][break]

Enzo’s head tilted then, though, determined to make sure he held Kosei’s gaze. “That is all, though. A difficulty, not an impossibility.” A hand left its perch briefly, only long enough for the pad of his thumb to drift against the other’s bottom lip. “I have never belonged to anyone but myself, you know that. But I belong to you now, too. Maybe for longer than I was aware of.”[break][break]

He bent to the hand at his collar, the slightest lift to drag him closer. A wry smile flashed teeth at the words Kosei spoke, and his hands instinctively tightened on hips, fingers dimpling in warm skin as his breath stifled with the heated crash of lips. The only response offered was the way he fell into it, the smallest exhale against his mouth.
Or maybe it was a sigh of relief.

[attr="class","star2"] He noted the camera, the dimming of the red recording light. An unspoken indicator of a turn toward less play. That was good. “Mm. Good, we are in agreement about that, then.”[break][break]

As she laid out her list of accomplishments, Enzo nodded along silently. But when her gaze lifted back to his, he recognized something old and familiar. A dogged determination that reminded him of himself when he’d be young and hungry for the opportunity to prove himself better than assumptions cast upon him. She might not have been a gutter rat kid like him, but the drive was still there. Likely because of some other, equally grating assumption.[break][break]

A smirk of his own mirrored hers. The slightest glint of teeth. A breath of light laughter.[break][break]

Enzo let out a bark of laughter. “An expert at lying to yourself, I see. Because you’re definitely not convincing me.” Impassive as he behaved, Enzo could sense it. It only further enforced the idea that shirking the rules for once would do Kosei some good. The boredom he’d been subjected to had taken a sudden turn for the interesting. And it was impressive that Kosei held his tongue just enough to not launch into the set of rules and regulations about drinking on school grounds. Let alone possession.[break][break]

He looked over at Kosei and pressed the hand not holding onto the neck of the bottle against his chest. “Oh, I’m sorry. I wasn’t aware you had become so versed overnight.” The grin that pasted itself across his mouth was a tricky one. Nabbing a glass he kept on his nightstand for water, he unscrewed the lid and filled it about halfway. [break][break]

Sauntering over to where Kosei was perched on his bed, Enzo held out the glass as he looked down at him. His grin widened even more. “Drink up then, party boy,” he challenged before taking a swig from the bottle itself.

[attr="class","star2"] His shoulders rose and fell in a lazy shrug. “Guess not. You don’t scare me, Kiryu.” His tone was laced with a tease. Laughter and amusement rose between them so easily. Enzo knew how to charm others, but there were often moments when he felt as if he was being charmed. Even when they’d been younger, and Kosei had been so clumsy in so many ways, it had been its own brand of charming.[break][break]

“I better double down, then,” he hummed, brows lifting as he laughed quietly. Breathlessly, even. The sound chased by a shaky sigh as lips replaced the fingers drifting over his tattoo.[break][break]

Enzo huffed, maybe a touch petulantly. “Well no, I didn’t. It did worry me. More than being pissed.” The concern that it was only a repeat of what he’d already been through had been a real and present thing. That sting of rejection looming over him again. “I was pretty vulnerable with you the other night, if you’ll recall.” Kosei didn’t resist the pull, and something squeezed at his heart in his chest as Kosei tucked his face away. He didn’t make a move to tug it back, though. Perhaps there was a part of him that was even apprehensive of how the other might answer.[break][break]

His hand rose, fingers tracing the ridge of the elastic tying the other’s hair back. The loose wisps at the nape of his neck. The shell of his ear. A sigh of his own mirrored Kosei’s. “You know it’s not that easy, right? There are complications to it, and I don’t want to make things worse for you and Miu.” Since was he selfless? Since when did he care about someone other than himself? It was more of a straw dog. In the back of his mind, he recalled the request he’d made of jayden cross three years prior, when he’d first be re-recruited.[break][break]

“But if that’s what you want, you have me then. I’ve been just as lonely without you too.” Knowing it was an inevitability the day Kosei had walked away had never made it any easier. And Enzo was tired of trying to ignore it. “You have me.”

The answers that Yumi provided were the exact ones that Enzo wanted to hear. In his mind, it proved the suspicions formed by her continued appearances, and the consequential content released on her accounts. It lined up in neat parallels– she knew her stuff. And that could be useful. To him, much more useful than only internet fame.[break][break]

He could make an offer immediately, but that would look desperate. Even he wasn’t in immediate need of employment. It was all about the appearance. Instead, he folded his hands into his pockets, relaxing his posture in a way that might seem more amiable. It was all tailored, of course. Then came the slow lead– “Is this all you do then, Miss Hasegawa? Curate media content? Or rather, do you intend to do that forever?”[break][break]

The lead in his last question was meant to potentially poke at a sore spot, if she read it as such. Just from a short browse through her videos, the grievance against her family was easy to detect, even from sparse comments. Though in a different context, he could understand the sentiment. Knew even more so how powerful of a motivator that resentment could be.

[attr="class","star2"]“Don’t I know it.” Enzo humored the grumble, clearly unbothered. Though even with that threat, Enzo had never been incapable of holding his own. Not that he ever really felt genuine threat from Kosei. [break][break]

“Now, now,” he hummed in correction, “I didn’t say no good, puppy.” The corner of his mouth hooked upward, but it still felt ridiculously soft. Gentle, even. Something that Enzo hadn’t really thought himself capable of being. Though, if he were honest, it had always been there, just in different lights. “I can still very much do that, though. Bold of you to insinuate I can’t.”[break][break]

He huffed out a breath of laughter, “Maybe, but only maybe.” A shiver raced under his skin as fingers slipped along the lines etched into his neck. Sunk back against the couch, his hands slipped down along the other’s thighs, hooking under his knees and dragging him closer, still.[break][break]

“Well the miscommunication was funny,” he said with a shrug, still grinning up at him. His fingers hooked in the front of Kosei’s shirt, but rather than yank, Enzo tugged him closer slowly. Bit by bit until he could look him in the eye, but still feel the warmth of his breath. “Kosei, it really is alright. I’m tired of being bitter and hurt. I haven’t been angry with you for a long time.” Longer than he’d like to admit.[break][break]

“But what do you want from me now, Kos?” he asked, mirroring the question asked of himself all those nights before. “I’m listening, see? Like you said.”
