she couldn't have been, right? but the fact that he's heard her is enough to make pale skin go red from the embarrassment. good lord, he saw - or rather heard - and now she feels like a fool. it takes her a moment to process, takes a little longer as she's already moving to the tent to quietly pick up the tarp(?) material to pull it up. [break][break]

"i can handle it myself" she responds, and with the most composure she can muster. does it sound convincing enough? probably not, when she tugs the tent a bit more, and lowers herself down to the ground.[break][break]

and she crawls under it, knees and hands on the grass.[break][break]

was it to hide from him? yes. it was. there was no way in hell she was going to face him after not only making a fool out of herself once, but twice in the same god damn hour.

she'll admit, she doesn't quite like his insults. [break][break]

but the banter was nice enough. plus, he was kind enough to take the time out of his day to help train her (asides from the fact that she, well, pays him to help her out). verity has never known herself to be chatty during a workout session, though it's nice being able to have banter with someone simpleminded when she's supposed to be focusing. [break][break]

"hookay.." she takes another deep breath, making another hook and landing another punch. there's another snap, with another kick, and it's just enough to have her work up just enough of a sweat. of course, she knows better than to believe that he'll let up as time goes on - doubtlessly he'll just tell her to keep going at it for the next while. as good a teacher as he was, he'd always, always push for more. [break][break]

she hadn't even thought about how she might have startled a woman when she came up, saying nothing, until just a little bit later. she'd apologize.. but the woman has already moved on from the topic by the time she's finally thought to say something. that wouldn't make it the first time. it doesn't make it any less disappointing. [break][break]

instead, her corviknight seems to pick up the pace quicker than the trainer. what brings you out here? the woman asks, and verity, thankfully, doesn't have to take too long to answer: "i'm here to keep an eye on the corsola." [break][break]

and she hums softly, before leaning forwards, lazily, on the corviknight who continues to paddle his talons in the water to keep the two of them floating along the water's surface. "there's been word of a dwindling in the corsola population, so.. i'm supposed to look after them for a little while." [break][break]

but she never heard about having a partner here. [break][break]

"may.. i ask why you're here?" [break][break]

it looks like she's traumatized the poor thing. [break][break]

the reassurance of the trainer.. thankfully helps put her mind at ease. at least, she doesn't have to apologize profusely, like she initially thought she would. "if you say so.. thank you." [break][break]

verity doesn't sound so sure. [break][break]

but she lets it go, regardless. her corviknight would have nudged her for her attention, anyways, if she didn't move on. she only struggles because of the guilt, and the sheer coincidence of it all - or the unfortunate luck of it. [break][break]

the walk to her site doesn't take long. but, when they arrive, she's reminded of her failure of a tent, flat on the ground, in shambles, while the rest of the grill hasn't even been set up yet. the albino woman sighs, softly, bringing a hand to rest against her forehead. "well.. i still need to set up the tent, and the barbecue before we actually start." [break][break]

she glances to the grill, only barely unpacked from the van. "you can get yourselves comfortable on the bench" she smiles, slightly "it shouldn't take too long for me to set things up." [break][break]

and what a lie that is.

is she visibly crumbling? she is, but just being aware can't stop something from happening. this is only because she can't have any proper time to think; verity is usually more put together than this. verity is usually more composed than this. verity is usually more indifferent than this. it's only because she was thrown off guard, and it was because of the festering guilt that initially toppled her from her iron support. [break][break]

she'll pass a slight glare to the corviknight offering her shade.[break][break]

thankfully, it still looks like the trainer was more than eager to forgive her, and that soothes her beating heart - for a little while. her heart is pounding; is it because he's someone she's seen on the stage? is it because she's still eaten by the guilt when she watches the togepi continue to sob against his shoulder? [break][break]

verity doesn't understand. [break][break]

but her expression returns to neutral when she calms, then she nods. her body only leans forwards slightly towards the togepi, voice lowered as to not startle her more than she already has. "erm.." she starts, and it takes a little while for her to formulate the words "i'm.. really sorry i pelted you with the rock.." her fingers are trembling when they tent against her stomach. then she looks back up, before slowly spinning on her heels back towards camp. there's something she's forgetting... oh! that's right! [break][break]

"oh, and.. my name is verity. your name is..?"

she's messed up, she's fucked up, she's going to crawl into a hole, goodbye forever. this is what happens when she doesn't get enough time to think; her intrusive thoughts start to come at her, and she ends up making a fool of herself. if she could make an audible wheeze at herself when she buries her face into her hands, she would. and she did. quietly. at least he's.. good about this? he laughs at her blunder, and she's grateful that he's handling this well. verity is starting to calm down from her initial mess up... until she hears the follow up, which starts to heat her face up once again. her albino skin still does no favors for her. [break][break]

and she doesn't quite know how to respond. [break][break]

her? cute? usually people find her intimidating, and her first response is to gently grab and tug a lock of snow white hair into her hand. "th-thank you..?" she says, and wonders: did she say it right? she was always told to accept compliments as they were given. [break][break]

she'd start stuttering some more, if not for the corviknight who makes a quick flap towards the trainer, lifting a wing to cast shade over porcelain skin before it can burn too quickly in the sun. she hadn't even noticed that she was standing out in the heat for so long. [break][break]

it's enough to help her gather herself, and she immediately perks up, slightly. [break][break]

"would you--" she stammers again, perking up, and probably speaking a bit more loudly than she should "like.. to.." the words are processing as she speaks, and this is a first as she starts quieting down "join us for a barbecue..?" the red on her face deepens, but it always gets worse before it gets better. [break][break]

her eyes turn from the man to the togepi, who still cries against his shoulder. [break][break]

"to make up for.. the togepi." [break][break]

but she can't help it; she's a little slow when she finally gets the chance to think. here, however, she happens to have.. a bit of trouble thinking after she's processed who exactly she's been talking to. she's having a bit of trouble thinking after she's realized whose pokemon she chucked a rock at. does she say she recognizes him? say she likes his music? no, that would make it creepy, wouldn't it? plus, she imagines that it wouldn't be too pleasant of a nature outing if you're suddenly approached and recognized by a fan (of the music, she'll insist). so gather yourself, verity. rather than a deep breath, wide ruby eyes blink, and like that she's grounded herself back to reality. no more floating in her head. [break][break]

maybe she shouldn't have jumped so suddenly. [break][break]

were her lungs regretting her sudden jump? yes, they were, quite strongly, might she add. she intends to take a glance at the togepi, but it looks like the summer heat is getting to her more than she'd like. so, rather than immediately answering, she lets out a (panting) sigh of relief when she notices that the togepi has, indeed, not scrambled into what it once was. [break][break]

"th-that's.. good.." she follows up with, starting to finally lift herself to fix her posture. an arm raises up to push the locks of white out of her eyes, and the sweat from her brow. when prompted, she narrows her eyes to the side, towards the large, metal bird pokemon who innocently and harmlessly trills his feathers "my.. corviknight was--"[break][break]

it's then she finally gets a good look at this person's face. [break][break]

... tall, toned, and slightly oddly coloured hair. [break]
where has she seen him before? [break][break]

blood ruby eyes stay on his figure - to the point of probably staring - as she begins to search her memory, but it's the voice that finally makes something click in the back of her mind. wasn't this...? [break][break]

until someone had to go and be coy, and provoke the trainer. the thing is, too, that he knows very well how easy it is to set the albino's temper off. quiet as she is, a lot of it has become internalized (merits to therapy; enough of that can help clear your mind, and manage your anger better). it's just when her opponent is... that one. the gears have a tendency of turning back. [break][break]

but.. if the stone doesn't hit the bird, what did it hit? [break][break]

she'll get her answer real soon when she hears the abrupt, high scream of a togepi coming from the other camp. blood red eyes widen at the sound, and under her breath, you can hear the very, very soft "shoot" as her mistake properly settles. [break][break]

she scrambles up from the rods, careful not to trip over any of them, while kicking the tarp back in her sudden scramble. she's quick to run to the neighboring camp, only to properly catch a glimpse of her blunder (or, rather, the consequences of her own actions). "i-i'm really sorry..!" she's a little out of breath - not because she ran, but because she launched into a dash so suddenly. [break][break]

"a-are they okay...?" she pants, back arched as her hands rest against her knees. the summer heat doesn't do her any favors. "i-i didn't throw the rock too hard, did i..?" [break][break]

she did. [break]
she really did. [break][break]

it's amazing that the togepi didn't scramble.
