“Heh,” she sounded, surprisingly affirmative. That phrasing was one she knew all too well, after all. No one expected anything out of her, either. At least not in that sense. They simply saw a little girl that did not have to be taken seriously. The difference was, though, that unlike a cosmically low probability applied here, he actually looked like that because that was who he was. Lash still very much refused thinking of herself as the person she presented.

Which did make it slightly more difficult to remain a bit stand-offish towards this boy. He was saying all the right things. But that made it kind of annoying. Straddling the line between being reassuring and patronizing. A rare occurrence. She was not quite sure how to properly handle it, to be honest. She briefly rubbed the back of her head. “Well, I guess it is difficult not to. We don’t exactly let people in enough to see anyway.” Certainly something she was incredibly guilty of. But she could not change that. She had not chosen this life, ultimately. “Having said that... yes, I think this section should be clear now. At least my eyes in the skies do not have anything to report for now, either.”

Whelp. At least she had taken care of the clones. And she was pulling attention away from that man who was evidently trying to dodge something. But it was still unsatisfying. Lash pouted lightly, then patted her Hydreigon into evasive manoeuvres before the Scyther had even fully settled on them. Ot was just one of those things you learned when you made a living poaching wild Pokemon. Stir the nest and you likely got stung. It was always best to just assume that a failed capture shot would lead to some retaliation.

And it was always better to run away once too often than once too few. So, they were already darting sideways when it all started, potentially giving her experience away to the other ride, but also hopefully evading the strikes. At the same time, this should have been giving them an opening to do something of their own. Which Lash hoped they would utilize, even without trying to scream over the winds and the speeds at which her Hydreigon tried to outrun the cutters.

Ah. So it actually was something like that. Well, if she had to wager a guess, it probably wasn’t, really. There was another option. One she considered much more likely. After all, a disaster tourist would be someone much more cut-throat and cold than this person seemed to be. No, this was probably just some goody two-shoes that wanted to do good but was just kind of winging it and not doing too well in the process. She had her share of experiences with those, too.

Irksome. But hey, at least the Gardevoir was useful. In a way, it was really picking up his slack, now wasn’t it? Quietly nodding, Lash simply followed along to a situation where neither her nor her Pokemon were really all that useful. Sure, she could have Murkrow help by trying to fly these Pokemon back to the ocean. But she knew full well that they would probably resist, being startled. It just was not worth the hassle. “Well, at least your Pokemon is doing fine work. Guess I can’t really complain since when all is said and done, I am a bit more useless.” A brief laugh followed, clearly a little self-depreciative.

“But hey, at least no one expects much of me, looking like this. So I guess there is no use being any hard on me at all.”

Whelp. Good call there. Apparently, normal attacks did not work too well on that Scyther – and it was shredding through the other Hydreigon with surprising ease. Which was rather interesting to begin with. Something about it gave off a certain vibe, the kind that intrigued her. The kind of light she had seen before. In distortions.

So, like heck was she going to just run away. Especially not after she had just finished setting up. “Well, maybe you have to flee. Which seems kind of difficult right now, so hold on a little,” she called back across the winds, before patting her own Hydreigon. “Release the Tri Attack, try to focus on freeze. Then get more distance, it will likely come after us next,” she ordered while bracing herself for the manoeuvre as the three-headed dragon finally started exhale its elements at the opponent.

Hopefully, that guy would catch her drift. That thing was fast and strong. But it was alone. It could not be in two places at once. As long as it went after one of them, the other had free reign to attack.

A good idea, huh. Well, that would be a decent observation – if it did not come across as if they had not even thought about that yet. Honestly, that was kind of problematic, as far as Lash was concerned. As far as she could tell, the other was alone in an area that currently had aid workers spread way too thinly. There was a reason why she was focusing on training her Murkow to be a reliable scout. It was almost always necessary to have eyes in the skies, especially in a world as chaotic as theirs.

Heck, she was even fairly confident that she would be able to take on this person and their Guardevoir with a surprise attack if she really put her mind to it.
Lash sighed. It would simply not be worth it all. “You really are carefree about all of this, huh? Bumping into people, not scouting, letting Pokemon scamper off without checking them thoroughly for injury. Are you some kind of disaster tourist?” Not that her own motivations were pure in the slightest. But for one, she never claimed not to be an hypocrite. And for the other, well, she was someone who was maybe a bit too aware of things, given her own situation. She simply could not help but notice was all.

That man seemed awfully unaware of his surroundings. Well, she assumed her was one. Which probably was wrong to do in any event. It was just the contours of the diving suit that made her come with that for the first input. And she was one to just assign monikers to others quickly, so that she could mentally put them into neat enough little boxes. That one, for now, felt like he was a kind of bumbling explorer type, so she went with that for now.

Plus, he did kind of act the part, going deeper with his little light show, until he suddenly stopped. Lash did the same, though she was a little more apprehensive when she noticed another living being in the vicinity. Though the whole ‘living’ part was probably questionable to begin with. Because what would soon fill the tunnel in front of them was not just half translucent for stylistic reasons. No, the pink Jellicent that came out of the tunnels was evidently a ghost type.
One that raised its tentacles angrily at the ones in front, apparently annoyed about something.

So, the boy did not want to fight. Good. Lash did not really want to, either. She was not one to ignore battles, of course, but doing that in mid-air was usually rather annoying. At least when one was sitting atop a ride. It just was needlessly dangerous.

And yes, she was aware of the hypocrisy of saying that when she was chasing space-time distortions all over the place. But that was, again, the point. She was already taking those risks because she felt she needed to. Taking on more pointlessly was not a smart move.

Which was also why she and her Hydreigon would react the way they did when a golden light came streaking towards her. The other rider was obviously readying an attack there, continuing to move towards the approaching Pokemon. Lash, in the meantime, signalled her Pokemon through the reins to hold back a bit, move to the side and above the other to create some distance. Ultimately, she would seek to have it out of reach of the assailant, so that Hydreigon could Focus Power in peace, while she leaned in and observed the imminent first exchange.

Naturally, in situations like these, her Hydreigon would manage to notice its counterpart long before she did. Maybe it was sound, maybe it was smell, or maybe it could somehow notice air being displaced in a peculiar way. Whatever it was, her Hydreigon suddenly became a bit unruly, with two of its heads snapping towards the side, even before she could make out the other rider in the sky.

But that was something they both were at least somewhat prepared for. They changed course so that they were creating some distance from that rider without necessarily showing their backs to the other. Her own Hydreigon was also gathering elements, just in case it would be called into action.

After all, they both had been through some rough riding back when they had tried to investigate that island. Both trigger-happy Rockets and League infiltrators could easily become problematic, especially at low visibility, so it was best to remain vigilant, see how they would act when they got closer.

Ah, good. The altruist got to do their thing and she didn’t really have to join in. Sure, Lash looked on interestedly, mostly caring about the use of psychic ability for utility like this. But even when she squatted down to observe the saving of the little Skitty, she did not actively engage. Instead, she kept one hand on her knee, apparently thinking.

Mostly, because that boy had things handled anyway and she didn’t have to engage at all. But also because she was debating whether or not this was worth trying anything. At the end of the day, Skitties were cute, but also common. If it was an off-colour one? She might have taken a shot at it. But as was, she really did not have any reason to risk anything. “Good thing we got to it when we did,” she eventually noted, at least pretending to care.
But she was not going to bother playing the kid that got super excited seeing a wet kitten. In fact, she instead looked up when she heard a caw coming from the north, a few moments before her Murkrow came into sight.

The little one circled above them briefly, before flying back north. “Seems like my Murk has found something interesting, one way or another.”

They said no infinity energy was involved, but Lash still was not quite sure. Maybe she just wanted it to be that way, of course. The change she had experienced was outside of what happened to people in Space-Time Distortions usually, after all. But it had happened all the same. Conventional wisdom had not protected her. And it would not stand in her way this time, either.

As always, she was ready to discard her theory, but only after seeing the Pokemon in question with her own eyes. People always told her off anyway, just because of how she looked. There was no time debating others or asking them. Not like she needed their permission anyway. All she needed was the Hydreigon she currently was riding and the rest of her team, still safely secured in the balls on her belt as they soared over this route at night, looking for the golden gleam that supposedly indicated their prey nearby. Supposedly, there was some kind of large insect type that had taken residence in this area. And she was going to find it, one way or another.

If nothing else, someone probably would pay a lot of money for a golden gleaming Scyther or so.

A seahorse to bring light to the tunnels, huh? That was kind of meme-y, but okay. She could appreciate the effort anyway. Plus, it was useful for her too, as she followed. After all, she currently lacked good utility Pokemon for this sort of thing. Having had to sell off a lot of her collection after losing her age had taken a toll on that. And even today, she was selling a lot of what she caught on the Black Market, given that she did not have parents to rely on as any girl her apparent age should.

And like heck would she go to some kind of orphanage. That would be utter humiliation. No, she was used to living on her own, in her own place. That would not change, even looking like this. It was what gave her the mental fortitude to press on, following that strange diver for the time being, her small Kartana dashing through the waters nearby. Giving its slim body, it was easier to see the Pokemon by what water it displaced, rather than any bodily details at all.

For the time being, the two of them followed this man in a good enough distance to neither lose, nor alert him. Lash had a lot of experience stalking prey, after all. That translated well enough into stalking random people, too.

This place really wasn’t for people of her statue, she had decided. Sure, she had gone through the whole diving prep ritual, gotten proper gear and such. But she already felt some pressure. More than she had felt at similar excursion in the past, if the low ringing in her ears was any indication.

Not that anyone would openly give her the time of day trying to prepare for this, of course. No, she had to sneak by here, getting her preparations done by pretending to just be the child of tourists and whatnot. But it was worth it, she figured. For one, the sights down here were rather interesting. For the other, well, apparently this was one of those places where space-time distortions could appear. That was something she was always for, after all.

One could even say that it was all she was after these days. But to her, that was just a function of her condition. Not like people gave her the time of day, truly, when it came to interpersonal things. Not when they looked down on her. So, getting back her proper age was most important. Though it was nice underwater. As she approached the caves her informant indicated, she did see another. And being in this kind of three-dimensional space, she could, for once, look down on someone. That was nice! She decided to just observe that one until he either went in like a good little meatshield, or noticed her. She was not exactly hiding, after all.

Fortunately, she had experience. With strong and strong-willed Pokemon. Granted, she was just a poacher. That meant it was her job to capture Pokemon and sell them after. She was not the kind of person that would be tasked with taking care of said strong will. That was for others to do. Something she did not care much for and about. Not that she would ever pass judgment on them anyway, still.

But she still could tell that the Gardevoir was giving her side-eye. Probably would be a bad idea to try anything while that one wasn’t sufficiently distracted. Which was somewhat fine. Lash did not need to do anything ot either of them, anyway. Hence, her chipper attitude did not diminish, even as she started to lead them a bit further down the beach.

“Wonderful. I guess it is really convenient to have a psychic type around sometimes,” she mused, idle thoughts wandering towards the Metagross she had left behind today, mostly to better act out her current persona a bit better. Tiny girl and huge Pokemon could work, often, but it was not the best first impression on a rescue mission.

Naturally, that also meant that she did not exactly put helping these ‘Mons was not her top priority in the slightest. Still though, she would lead them to a genuine scene of where some hut or the like had broken down, with the occasional mewling being audible from beneath. “There, but be careful. They might be injured.”

Hah. No backbone. Nice. She could work with that. In fact, she loved it. It was worthy of celebration. Getting people to listen to her was pretty nice, especially given how difficult it was with this frame. Made it a lot more rewarding to see someone start stutter. Enough for her to beam happily when they acquiesced. “Ah, well, a little inconvenience like this hardly befits asking for your help to make up. As long as you keep your eyes as open as your mind in the future, that will be fine,” she replied, seemingly putting water under the bridge.

But she also evidently was not done talking. “Buuut since you clearly could use some guidance so you don’t run over more people than you help, I guess you can give me a hand anyway. I saw a toppled-over she a bit further down the beach and I don’t have a psychic type on me. I have something that could clear the debris, but I’d prefer a psychic or something to lift it more gently. In case there are Pokemon trapped underneath or something. Better to not damage them further by roughly handling the obstruction, you know?” Damage. Not injure. But time would tell if they would pick up on that choice of word – or deem it any odder than the mature way she was talking about all this to begin with.
