[break][break]"Ready to begin the next lap." Shion stated in that brief moment. Though her pack jostled and weighed her down, she kept running in place during the stop. She just knew if she let her legs rest now, it'd tempt her to unwind more than she was willing to. When Genny challenged her to pick up the pace she prepared her body to do more than jog. The cadet truly meant to ensure her gain potential was as high as possible and with a trainer this focused she meant to put her all in the workout.

[break][break]So, instead of greedily conserving energy to ensure her endurance she pushed forward to begin spending her banked energy. Her pack shifted heavily on her back as she broke into a sprint that utilized her technique and long legs. Her intent was to begin focusing on heart rate management and reducing wasted movement. Her body leaned forward in her sprint to take advantage of gravity and she continued to hold pace with Genny. A fiery look in her eyes plain now that there were stakes, however negligible they were. And obviously Autonoe felt the same.

[break][break]With the sun beating down on her she'd feel the breeze of their rush forward cooling them off.

[break][break]Eua, of course, took this as a chance to run donuts about the trees temporarily. Then she began her temporary rivalry with Puck and Wander again as she began to weave properly through the trees to catch up with Shion and her trainer. This excited Puck, who decided to put some real effort in and truly chase after Eua and Wander also. For Shion it was good to see them all getting along.

[break][break]"I'm sure I'll manage." Shion spoke while mounting the Flygon and securing herself by holding to Shalin for support. Even if the rapid, flickering beat of the insect pokemon's wings was a little disconcerting, she remained calm. The officer cadet would later admit it was an...interesting ride. Though at least it wasn't on Shalin's beedrill? Ultimately it got them from point A to point B and that's what mattered...

[break][break]'I can only imagine what riding a beedrill would be like, though.'

[break][break]The combination of humidity and dust mingling in the air about them truly made her appreciate that rapid beat, however. The Flygon's wings saved Shion from having to struggle through the lack of circulating air about them. Though the shifting hot moisture of the humid breeze had her thinking even more about what she'd said before : if Wilma was wounded, this would be the worst atmosphere for her. With so much moisture in the air all kinds of bacteria and disease could easily travel through the shifting winds on water droplets. It made her seriously consider having Autonoe do a rain dance---but she'd save that bright idea for later.

[break][break]When the pair finally found the footprints, Shion was quick to dismount and examine them closer. She'd even use her pokech camera to zoom in on them and see if she can match them to the trademark ranger boots of the usual league ranger uniform. She'd also go out of her way to try and put a time to when they were probably left. The aspiring detective also checked to see if any pokemon prints followed after her...It'd help determine how soon she ran into the trouble that she did. Shion had her suspicions that the pokemon in question might have had a disposition to float...but that'd be a matter she'd share later.

[break][break]Her thoughts would be interrupted by Shalin's request...

[break][break]"Oh! Fire? Yes, several." she commented casually before taking out her pack and fishing out a lighter. She flicked the flame open from the lighter, then finally noticed the item in Shalin's hands. Was...was that fishing road?

[break][break]Shion smiled at the thought. Her gaze took in Aurora and Selene in a new light as their trainer spoke of them. She gently moved to run her fingers along Aurora's smooth coat and applied a light, but firm scratching along the ears. It was only when Eua started making an ass of herself that she'd pull a way and move to place a hand on the Rookidee's head to pacify her along with her begging for her to behave. Still she gave an admiring glance at the pair of eeveelutions, clearly appreciating their attitudes.

[break][break]"As you've seen, Eua's the same with me. I get it."

[break][break]She dismissed the matter entirely. Perhaps, to the officer cadet, it'd have been stranger if they weren't protective of their trainer. No explanation would be needed. She just moved to walk into the cafe when he held the door for her and passed him a faint smile of gratitude for the action. Whether manners were ingrained in him or not, she'd been around enough people to know that his formal behavior was optional and deserved acknowledgement.

[break][break]The cafe was a very cozy environment. Warm tinted ceiling lights, and nice glass wall placements flushed the room in light without overpowering the eyes. Its floor plan made use of a built in fabric couch-pit one could curl up with a book and read in. The books, of course, would likely come from the many shelves lining and dividing the space about the cafe to provide privacy without actual walls. Shion had never quite seen a cafe that seemed so confused about whether or not it wanted to be a bookstore or a cafe...but she found herself appreciating the theme.

[break][break]Glancing back at Mikael, she'd move toward the nearest seating to the windows. She overed near the table to silently seek his approval. Ultimately it didn't matter where they sat, but she'd not be so rude as to disregard her companion's choices of comfort.

[break][break]She shook her hook her head with a faint smile. Then she finished off her cup of coffee and sat aside the stirring straw, packets and other such into the cup. Her menu would be set aside neatly under her cup so that the waitress from before could pick it all up in one sweep.

[break][break]Though she might have been distracted, her eyes were fixated on the agent's words as he confirmed what she'd dreamed may be possible. Her eyes widened just a little and the shine of hope sparkled in her gaze. It seemed he'd resolved a major concern she'd had about her own possibilities. The cadet took her time digesting his words before her next set of questions came.

[break][break]Tonight was as lively as ever. In Lilycove's alleyways all manner of people laughed and enjoyed the festival-like atmosphere of the Yokocho. In particular, she idly watched a group playing Mahjong outside of the noodle shop she chose for her meeting. All while the soft sizzling of noodles being prepared and the scent of chicken broth kept her stomach happily anticipating its next meal. Her phone and by proxy the Amigo app had been all but abandoned as it simply weighed her right hand down on the bar counter she sat.

[break][break]'I wonder what kind of woman this Yujin Ha is...Her personality seems a bit...interesting.'

[break][break]She thought to herself as she remembered their brief conversations in regard to where to go. Although they didn't speak much, she could tell that they were fundamentally different people. She vaguely wondered if that meant they'd get along or if there'd be tension. Then again she had the communication skills of a shedlder at times. Meanwhile Yujin Ha seemed...varied in her capabilities. Beautiful, extroverted, confident...

[break][break]Shion found herself sighing dejectedly.

[break][break]As a more serious minded individual...she imagined herself to be far more plain, especially when she wasn't being abrasive on reflex. Maybe she'd be able to make it clear that she was just earnest? The platinum blond shook her head gently and put away her worries. She'd not even met the woman properly yet and she was making presumptions about her future success on making a good impression. She decided to expend her energy on something she did know :

[break][break]Her Rookidee, Eua, poked her head curiously out of her platinum blond hair and made note of the massive dragonfly Pokemon. The little bird glanced worriedly at her trainer...as if it had some idea of what she was about to say and do.

[break][break]"I'll have Eua do a sweep around the cave openings, we can do the same. Any chance your Flygon can handle two riders? Admittedly I've never done it before, but it'd be the quickest and potentially safest way in the long run if you can help me stay on board." As she explains this she makes eye contact with the Flygon as if to ask for silent permission. Then her eyes slipped back to Shalin...

[break][break]"If we can find any sort of hint to the direction she'd treaded, that'll make our lives easier. Elsewise, if she is alive we risk her dying on us because we took so long. The humidity out here is going to start building and injuries are going to be a struggle to keep clean and uninfected if she's been hurt. Also, when it rains, another wrinkle will occur. What we can expect from this forest will dramatically shift due to its ecology. What ever is in the caves right now...won't be the same because the fire Pokémon will be rushing in for shelter."

[break][break]Shion quickly picked up pace to match and jogged along side her trainer. With her pack shifting behind her she was constantly reminded to keep form if she didn't want her pack to slow her down. Pace, technique, and physical strength were on the forefront of her mind in this exercise. It was why she gave herself that extra bit of difficulty.
[break][break]Although she was simply an officer, she did this the military way. There were simply more benefits provided. Her top speed would increase due to the weight, her technique would help her endurance, and it'd be a decent show of how serious she was to Genny. Shion had no problem with the reality that she had to show off at least a little. The more indorsements she got, the easier progress forward would be. It was all calculated.

[break][break]Autonoe clumsily followed after her. It was noticeable how well she was doing. Although her body shape disallowed her the same fluency of movement as the rest of the pokemon, her training and technique showed she knew how her body worked and how to take advantage of it. This essentially meant she could hold pace with Shion and Genny both.

[break][break]The sobble's expression was just as steeled as Shion's, too. As if the pair were in perfect sync with each other in the moment. Even if it was simply a training session...they demanded it of themselves to do their best from the very beginning and push themselves to the end.

[break][break]Naturally this extended to all of Shion's pokemon. Eua flowed through the wind, purposefully flying through the trees to increase her own difficulty. As a bird flying was the most natural thing to her and when she wasn't nesting in Shion's hair she was in the air or perched on something. To her that meant she had to work harder than everyone.

[break][break]So she'd fly between branches, practice curved drill beak spirals, and swoop towards the ground and pull up in divebombs to truly make this a workout. The little rookidee's personality didn't seem to cool off when it came to training. It was clear the little bird was hyper critical of herself and only expected the best.

[break][break]Puck practiced chasing after Eua, which sparked a bit of a rivalry also, the levitating pokemon's training would be his accuracy of acceleration and multidirectional movement. Seemed he felt if he could keep up with Eua he'd know he did well. Especially since this was to be a progressively increasing difficulty two lap experience. Interesting how even the clown of the gang was taking this serious. Perhaps the four of them were taking it too serious?

[break][break]Either way, they kept pace. There was no need to over do it and try to lap Genny and her pokemon. They just needed to be able to keep up and that appeared to be all of their mindsets.

Although the joke had certainly eased her nerves, even pulled a small laugh from her, the look in her eyes suggested that might have been what she expected. She mulled over her words and thoughts to obtain a way to build to her next question and generally provide her view point at the same time. While she was doing that, his question to her caught her somewhat off guard and added to the stack of things going on inside of her head.

[break][break]"It makes sense.", she starts," You probably have a lot of autonomy due to the width and breadth of your job. I bet there are times the main reason you have the paperwork you do is because you were the only one to witness what happened. I bet reports like that are your main source of paperwork, right?"

[break][break]She gently rested her weight against her table, propping her forearms against its surface.

[break][break]"Ah...What interests me...? Well...the reach, I guess? As an officer cadet my affect on the world and reach to make change is...narrow. Along with only being expected to support those in higher ranks than me, I'm limited in my clearances, I only know so little of what happens on a case, I'm essentially glorified hired help for my precinct." she stops thoughtfully and shrugs simply," This...isn't so much as a complaint as an observation. I know that I have to start small to get anywhere...but I'm starting to realize how small I am. How little my opinion matters or changes the sway of events. So...I guess I'm checking my options to see where I want to go to...help. To bring change."

[break][break]Her gaze slipped down to her coffee once it came. She took a spoon and gently stirred in a little sugar and a single small container of cream. The warm, sweet smelling coffee was sipped and she looked pleased with it. A brief small on an otherwise neutral expression. Her thoughts briefly didn't weigh so heavy in that moment...but just as fast she remembered where she was and what she just stated. She sighs softly and stares a the swirling vortex of sweet brown.

[break][break]All it took was a slight tilt of the head to see that he'd a guest join him. One of the uniformed officers had slipped by with the silence of a cat to crouch down and gaze at the murder scene. Unlike most rookies her age, she seemed largely unaffected by the scene. As if she'd seen many like them or worse long before getting involved. Her head tilted softly, back and forth as she examined what was in front of her.

[break][break]"Before you came, Mr. Sokolov, I took pictures of the footwear impressions leading to and around the area.", she gently adjusted her cap and tucked her platinum blond locks behind a single ear. She was quite for a few moments later, as if an after thought hit her.

[break][break]"Time of death was around 5:00 AM...We have a match that makes it look like he climbed over a fence and beelined to get here. Also...I don't know how useful it'll be to you, Detective, but..."

[break][break]The officer pointed at the deceased's back. Particularly where shirt sloppily spilled over belt and over their back pockets. She was pointing at the shape of what was probably a wallet. Whether or not the detective wanted it, she'd already be moving with gloves and instruments to help her disturb the body as little as possible. Though she kept looking at the fragments of skull and brain matter that stained the coffin and the sides of the hole nearest to where the victim fell. She had her thoughts, but she didn't bother saying them. She had her own faith that she'd probably said too much already and that Detective Sokolov was fairly close to being annoyed by the disruption.

[break][break]Still...Shion felt like this was a little odd. Sure it was a murder, but the amount of damage to the skull was so significant. There were two ways she saw this working out : The man was lead here, the hole was there for convenience, and the attacker pushed him and used leverage to enable to blows that ultimately killed this man...or it was much more gruesome and violent than that, thanks to a Pokémon. Or some combination of the two...

[break][break]Either way she wanted to hear what the detective thought. It was her first time seeing such an experienced one work and she wanted to see what she could learn.

[break][break]Though...one word slipped from her lips in thought," A hypnosis?"

[break][break]"Sure...That sounds good." She shifted to shake his hand. As if remembering something a grizzled vet used to say to her in the back of her head, she made sure it was a hardy shake at that.

[break][break] When her rear met seat again she flagged down the barista herself. So not to waste time she let her eyes glide down to the first thing that sounded palatable on the menu. 'Medium Roast Alohan Macadamia', that'll do. Then she adjusted in her seat and worked her nerves out. When she was finally ready to ask questions she let their eyes meet and held contact.

[break][break] "I guess I'll go ahead with my questions..." Her back straightened and her fingers interlaced with each other on the table in front of her. She went through each question that came alive in her head and found many to choose from. At least that might have been the atmosphere she briefly gave...Curiosity easily shined in her otherwise neutral gaze.

[break][break] "I understand you won't be able to go into detail for most of my questions. I'll make it plain that I'm only interested in learning what it takes to become HBIC and what kind of people do." she began," My first questions are...When you first took the job, what were your expectations and how did they differ from the actual experience?"

[break][break] There were more coming in her mind as she spoke. She just had the restraint to stop herself. Shion relaxed her shoulders and applied internal patience to wait for her answers and listen to them all the way through to the end. She was highly attentive. Her eyes were primed to catch anything and her ears were fully focused on him. Chances were...this little cadet was going to hang on every word he said.
