Once again being a grunt was proving to be more and more tiresome. Dwayne had narrowly returned to the Rocket base camp after traversing through hell and back, and what was his reward? More work, this time in the mysterious ruins that spawned this entire conflict. Dwayne was just supposed to survey them, map out the layout and whatnot. It seemed like an easy task, but then again so did his previous assignment. Hopefully this one won't spiral out of control as well.

The ruins were lonely and vast. Dwayne spent multiple long stretches of time walking down seemingly endless hallways, with not even a trap to break up the monotony. Dwayne was starting to think that these expansive hallways were the main defensive structures of the ruins, most treasure hunters or tomb raiders probably died of boredom before they could reach anything interesting.

Finally he reached something worthwhile though, a large room with a glowing rock in its center--with a human figure already standing before it. Dwayne froze, it would seem as if he was not the only one sent to map out the ruins. Were they a Rocket grunt sent through another opening--or were they an explorer aligned with the League? Dwayne scanned the room, noting that it had multiple entrances. There was no need to find an answer to his inquiries, all he had to do was sneak to another entrance and continue his journey. This stranger did not even need to know Dwayne was there.

Dwayne took one very careful step to the left while keeping his eyes on the stranger. He took another when he felt ready and---click.

Dwayne froze as something mechanical shifted behind him. The entrances were suddenly blocked off by massive slabs of stone, and a earthy smelling fog began pouring out of unseen spouts in the ceiling. Dwayne gulped as he looked to the now aware stranger, only thinking to shrug.

"Whoops, my bad."

Dwayne was dragged to this campaign against his will to be a meat-shield. I mean, it sucked but that was what he got for signing up with terrorists. Here he thought that Rocket was just a crime syndicate, he had totally missed that they were fighting an actual war against the government. He would not even mind really, as long as he got paid, but unfortunately being a member automatically volunteered you to partake in the war effort. Golly gee what privilege.

Anyway there was some weird smoke puffing up across the route and Dwayne was sent to go see what was up and report back. In his head someone was just trying to obscure the battlefield, add some chaos to an already chaotic scene. Yet as he approached he could not help but feel as though something was off. For one the smoke was pink, which was something he had never encountered before. Gave him conniptions.

Whatever it was probably just a Mist Field or whatever. He just had to go report back now. Except as Dwayne turned, he suddenly found the smoke had swirled around him. That was a little creepy, but all he had to do was walk through it. He had his mask on, it was not like he would choke or anything. Dwayne casually walked through the smoke--and walked--and walked--and walked.

Weird, he could have sworn the camp was not this far. If he kept walking he should reach it eventually. So he did--off into the unknowable abyss of dreams.

Now that would be something. Sneaking under the surface of the sea would be a cunning strategy to pursuit a fast moving target. If a Rocket wanted to get the jump on Genny here, a little submarine subterfuge would be their best bet. Too bad there were not any Rockets around to stalk her, maybe someone could stop her from getting that information to HQ.

The only other Rocket nearby was Dwayne, who was frantically running with information of his own. He accidentally came upon what he swore was some sort of base of operations, a head quarters if you would, for the League. After taking several pictures with his phone camera, he knew he needed to get this intel to Rocket asap.

After a while he felt like he was home free, I mean he was not noticed right? There were no signs that he was being followed, was he seriously going to get away with this? The rush of possible successful espionage was short lived as Dwayne turned a corner and was forced to slide to an abrupt stop. There was another, a young girl standing not more than ten feet away upon the beach. She was wearing a ranger uniform.

Oh shit.

Maybe she did not notice him? No, that was a hopeless wish. Dwayne just came barreling with the subtly of a raging tauros, he was good and caught. That was okay though, maybe he could play it cool. He began walking forward, trying to act as casual as possible.

"Hey there, great day for a walk right?"

Mind you Dwayne was not wearing one of those awful Rocket Grunt costumes, but he was dressed in all black in the middle of a war zone. This was the definition of a stretch--but fuck it maybe she'll buy it.

Dwayne had been thankful for everything Team Rocket had done for him so far, but how he had to pay back that thanks was not always to his liking. Dealing and making narcotics was an expected duty that was often placed upon him, but being a night guard on the sub? It just did not vibe with Dwayne at all. Night time was for sleeping, the last thing he wanted to do was patrol this dreary sub all night long. Every hall seemed colder than the last, made him miss the warm embrace of his blankets at home.

The chill seemed to reach its peak when he came upon the Laboratory wing of the sub. It was so cold that his breath was starting to manifest through his mask. Could they not afford to install a heater? He was about ready to skip this section entirely, no one can even access the labs besides Rocket personnel.

Dwayne turned to leave, but only got one step in when he heard a loud banging from deep within the hallway. He turned back, his flashlight barely piercing through the dark corridor before him. He turned away again, it was probably just someone working late. However he would not get far before the banging occurred again, this time twice as loud and clearly malicious. Dwayne arched his brows, what could be causing such a racket. He sighed heavily, as finding out was unfortunately his job tonight.

He reluctantly started down the hallway, just as a third bang echoed through the hall...

Oof, this guy was--intense. Dwayne was not expecting the Mayor to be the Christian Grey type, but then again the man did seem to be business oriented. It makes sense that he should see intimacy in the same way. Dwayne rolled with it, only raising an eyebrow when Cillian brought up his pharmaceutical experience. Notably, using it to create unlawful substances.

Geez, he liked to ParT too? The Mayor was fucking wild. How the hell did he get elected? He must have been very good at keeping his 'hobbies' a secret. To be honest this kind of stuff was not usually Dwayne's thing, but something about all of this felt--right. He was here to make a fresh start, perhaps this was how he could get a leg up in Hoenn--no pun intended. You know what, screw it. What did he have to lose? He could think of worse fates than being the sugar baby plaything of a powerful politician.

Remaining neutral, Dwayne nodded with confidence. "I have given this arrangement consideration, and I believe it shall be fulfilling for both of us. I hereby accept your proposal. Thank you for offering me this opportunity, I will not let you down."

Dwayne paused for a moment, tapping the table before speaking once more. "So--do I have to sign a waiver or something?"

Cillian Quinn

"Hmph." Dwayne crossed his arms, looking away as the man rose to his feet. It pained him to see Noel push himself, but he had to fight back his urge to help further. The man was on a mission, and Dwayne would not be able to convince Noel to rest further. Not that he could rest here, this was not Dwayne's property after all.

Dwayne responded to Noel as calmly as always, "I'm not a doctor, I just work here. But whatever, you're wel--come." Dwayne paused as he instinctively looked around for Noel's belongings, only to suddenly remember a terrible fact. "I um--hm--belongings?" Dwayne began to sweat a little, nervously laughing as he scratched the back of his head.

"You uh--you didn't have anything on you when I found you. I might have missed them anyway--heh." Dwayne did not know why he was nervous, perhaps he thought the man would turn on Dwayne and accuse him of being a thief. Or maybe he was just embarrassed that he did not notice Noel's stuff earlier, if he even had them after he was knocked out.

Regardless, Dwayne just hoped that Noel would head out so he could clean up and put this night behind him.

Noel Parker

The Persian's claws racked against the ship, leaving sizable gashes in the hull. The ship made an odd clicking sound in response, and the tractor beam would abruptly switch off. As gravity took hold once more, Dwayne would react accordingly.

"Wait wait wait WAIT!"

Bam, landed on his keester. If it weren't for his cushioned buns he might have broke his pelvis bone or something. He had no time to catch his breath though, as the barn quickly began to descend as well. Dwayne yelled out as he pushed himself forward, stumbling from the momentum as the barn crashed around him. At the last stretch he would be forced to dive to avoid being flattened by falling planks.

As the dust settled, Dwayne would slowly rise to his feet and look around for Frank. He could not find him before three new beings would appear before him. A Beheeyem flanked by two Elgyem stared at Dwayne, tilting their heads with possible curiosity. Perhaps they were trying to figure out how Dwayne left such large slash marks on their ship. Their interest was short lived though, and the Beheeyem would raise a colorful hand to charge an attack.

Dwayne squealed and clumsily attempted to pull a pokeball off his belt. Thanks to his fumbling though, he might be too late...

Wow this guy was all business. Dwayne could not decide how he felt about Mayor Cillian, he was very attractive but there was no passion in his words. It seemed so--transactional, and it left Dwayne feeling a little empty. It almost made him want to leave, but instead he would lace his fingers together and stay firm. Perhaps the mayor shall win him over as they get to know each other, no point in bowing out before learning anything new.

Dwayne cocked his head to the side, "Well, what do you expect from me? What can I do to most optimally service you? I have a wide skill set, but I am interested to know what about what exactly has caught your attention."

You know, besides his pretty boy looks. It better not be that thing he does with his knuckles, Dwayne had shared that with Jackson in confidence!

Cillian Quinn

Dwayne leaned back, his brows furrowing as Noel insisted on leaving to find his attacker. A long grumbling sound could be heard behind Dwayne's mask, a sign of his growing irritation. He looked around at the now empty jars of balms that he had used to heal this stranger, which he would very likely have to compensate with his paycheck. It filled him with a sense of resentment, and the gnawing feeling that he had wasted his time.

Perhaps it was his own sense of preservation that caused Dwayne to be unsympathetic to Noel. Yet even with his vehement disagreement, he would continue to speak to his patient with the softness of a doting caregiver.

"I shall tell you what happened, you picked a fight with something beyond your capabilities and paid for it. You may leave whenever you feel ready, but know that at this point seeking out your assailant shall be suicide."

Dwayne pushed back his chair slightly and folded his arms, solidifying the supposed lesson he had learned. "I don't know why I care what happens to you anyway. We're strangers, you and I. Get going so that I no longer have to reflect upon my wasted effort."
