It is, of course, far too good to be true. He's too resilient to brought down so quickly. She familiarizes herself with the facts: his Avatarship grants him a greater survivability than she had thought possible. His recovery was swift, and that meant that they had to fight smart, not just hard. [break][break]

Navy appears behind them, quick with the phantom force, and Ameena has only the time it takes him to toss his pokeball to the ground to get clear of the strike that follows - a fairy strike that nearly faints Malamar in a single blow. [break][break]

She stays the sidelines while Malamar cries out from the assault. Thankfully, it's contrary nature means it benefits from its hindered stat. "Tera," she orders shortly; they cannot afford to do anything by halves against someone who can survive their opening gambit. Malamar terastallizes dark, then follows with a night slash at the Iron Valiant. "At the rider," she hisses the correction, but it's too late - the strike is aimed at the Iron Valiant who will no doubt brave the assault. [break][break]

"We need to limit his mobility," she observes, fingers tracing her belt as she considers the next best pokemon to enter the field.

Fools was one interpretation of humanity. She used to think worse labels suited them, but these days, she figured it wasn't about foolishness so much as it was about thoughtlessness. Time moved in a circle. People acted out of habit. Out of the expectations set on them. Even governing bodies set boundaries based on what they thought people expected them to do, she figured. They were assigned roles at birth that they all played. [break][break]

Breaking the multiverse by travelling to another reality through the dreamscape was an attempt to act out a different part in a similar play. [break][break]

"Ecology is interesting," she conceded. "I find the more interesting studies get tainted by human interaction, unfortunately." Territoriality amongst species and the co-mingling of them were fascinating behaviors, but she wanted to observe such phenomena more naturally. Who cared how urbanism tainted their behaviors? Her expression darkened at the question, but only for a moment. Dreams were a source of optimism for people, a manifestation of the heart's desires. howard slayte seemed to think so, at least, and it wasn't an uncommon thought process. Grigori's question was off-putting for that reason. The assumption that something occurred to make her want to study it... and while it was true, she wouldn't vocalize it. "I think they offer an alternative to our reality." An answer more truthful than he deserved but likely vaguer than he preferred. [break][break]

Maybe he prodded because he had something to explore in that realm. "Do you have any dreams that might be of interest to me?"

This is an unexpected piece of the puzzle that is Matias Silph. Is he seeking comfort? Intellectualizing what has been bothering him? [break][break]

"Revisiting the dream in this manner should halt any further disruptions to your sleep. Lingering negative feelings can be processed in the conscious mind, as you consider what you have visited." She makes a dismissive gesture, but her eyes are glued to Matias with clear interest. "Your problem is as good as solved. Are you expecting me to interrogate you about what I witnessed? It is against my practice to demand intimate knowledge."

"Winning isn't enough reason for you?" She took easy strides to the side of the fight, as if circling their pokemon. She got a new perspective as she watched the Tinkaton kiss at her Malamar. The terastallized pokemon struggled to keep its gaze straight as a result. Ameena rolled her eyes. "You can play little games," she insisted, "but the stakes will continue to rise." How much of it was a script? How much of it was a lead-in for Malamar's next move? [break][break]

She chuckled. "Bring the sky down, Mal." Malamar would struggle to see straight, but this technique didn't require it: he used gravity to apply pressure to all of them in the area. She knew how to continue to adjust when the odds were stacked against you. The human body had several pressure points, tactics had several approaches, and their conversation had several twists. But all of it would always come down to a victory for her; she was a bullet shot from a gun, her trajectory decided just like her target, and she would not be deterred. [break][break]

She leaned back against the grassy hills and let her gaze rise to the stars. Malamar could handle himself. And with Tinkaton disposed of, the duo experienced some peace. Even the floating fairy that came close to Ameena did so gently, curiously. She didn't even turn to acknowledge it. It fluttered away down the hill, curiosity sated. The night stars kept her and Malamar company as she simply let time pass. Everything else could wait.

Underneath the stress of lying, there was a twinge of thrill. More than that, performing as an actor against Montgomery to keep up appearances - a delusion he contributed to, too - was fun. His Zoroark transformed into a visage of Malamar, which Ameena hadn't expected, but which she would brute force her way through. "Tera," she instructed, and Malamar terastallized with dark tera before following through with a night slash, charging forward through the shadow ball to strike the Zoroark. [break][break]

The night was crisp but comforting, and she found herself getting lost in small thought, the kind that went like a leaf down the river. Hard to catch, hard to identify, but there. It was close enough to an empty mind that she found peace in it. Up until the Tinkaton below began to hammer everything that moved. Ameena didn't have to do anything but tense up at its annoying sounds before Malamar was summoning a thunderbolt to knock her out on the spot. Then, blissfully, Ameena relaxed again.

Mauville was a collection of distractions, and she desperately needed one. The pressure of tactical decisions in the war and in her lab and in her position within Rocket was crushing her. She was keeping secrets. She was being punished for keeping the wrong ones. [break][break]

Malamar whined at her side, aware of her internal turmoil. "I know," she conceded. The two of them sat on the hillside and watched the people below at the roller rink, taking a moment to forget. She could write it up as being some type of surveillance, but no one was watching her this closely. It was her own neurotic paranoia that left her needing a prepared answer at every move.

"I wonder where I have heard that before." She alluded to their first meeting with a confident smirk. "You may need some back-up to handle me." Her eyes glittered with the mischief she felt. Malamar was a more recent acquisition of hers, inspired by her meeting with MAKI YUKIMURA whose pokemon seemed rather capable in their short time together. [break][break]

She spread her arms out wide, as if saying come at me. "Impress me."

It is more than fortunate that she's paired with two others, given that the unlucky Leaguer before them is a damned E4. "No time like the present," she says with a sideways glance to her colleagues. He's approaching the bunker they're located behind, so contact is inevitable. She steps around the edge of the bunker's wall, revealing herself as she tosses a pokeball high into the air as if she's serving a volleyball - trying to split his attention. [break][break]

Malamar appears, summoning a thunderbolt to strike Navy as he lands between Ameena and the Rider.

Ameena throws her pokeball with clinical precision to land atop the felled tree. Malamar appears above, using thunderbolt to summon lightning to strike the tree in two and give her an easy path to cross through the arboreal obstacle. Rocket caravans have been largely uninhibited by League interception, but who knew when they would lick their wounds enough to strike? [break][break]

She was sure the rebellion would come in waves. There were too many different elements for the League to address, to many gaping holes bleeding Hoenn dry. Rocket had less manpower, sure, but they answered to fewer constituents. There were less people to disappoint and they were less beholden to morale anyhow. [break][break]

The politics of their takeover was a drag, but the increased opportunity to cross paths with the one and only Montgomery makes it worth the trouble. [break][break]

"Long time no see," she greets warmly, though an outsider might mistake it for the teasing of a villain who continues to escape the hero. "I found myself in a bit of hot water with the bosses, so I will have to make this look good." Her gaze falls down him suggestively, though she's also taking inventory to know if he's already been roughed up by anyone else on the border of the territory. If she has to leave him with a shiner to sell the story, at least she can lick his wounds later.
