She knows Tempest is going to meet them in the lab, and she knows Cillian is motivated to recover the memory, but she can't help but imagine the worst as she follows him. What if it was all a charade? Cillian could have asked his husband to come just to kill her. [break][break]

Or maybe she'll be submitted as a lab rat here. [break][break]

She doesn't even know what kind of experiments get held here. She hates the absence of camaraderie between them. She wants to talk about the shadows or how he's handled rehousing from Sootopolis or about if he knows any gossip about the visiting Kanto forces. But his research and getting familiar with his life and small talk are all off the table. It's a loss on top of the loss that leaves something petulant and guilty tugging at her heart. She can't help but feel like she's on a death march.

Cillian walks toward Blackstone in chilly silence.[break][break]

A death march, indeed.[break][break]

New doors of harsh metal catch the sunlight on approach, and Cillian swipes a small access card through a reader at the side. The dim red light remains for a moment before flashing green, and the doors slide open with the smoothness of fresh technology.[break][break]

An elevator leads them down into the bowels of the place, the very final level. It's Cillian's personal laboratory, the place he feels most safe within the facility, but to Ameena it must feel like the certainty of execution. They are as far from safety as they can possibly be.[break][break]

The main lab is massive, enough space to house multiple large Pokémon in the space. Accommodations made specifically for Lugia. Plenty of room for the Musharna to do what it must.[break][break]

The lights are already on. Tempest Quinn is already here.[break][break]

"Hello, love." Cillian's rumbling voice sings with warmth as he closes the gap between them, capturing his lover's lips in a brief, biting kiss. Quietly, so only his husband will catch the words, he confesses, "I'm glad you could make it."[break][break]

He didn't want to go through this alone.[break][break]

Cillian gestures around the lab without looking at Ameena. "Make yourself comfortable."

While ameena abadi worried and Cillian Quinn stewed, Tempest hummed some old pop song to himself and played on his phone. He was in his mission gear instead of his regular clothes, the all-black combat suit fancier than his usual attire. His gloves had been pulled off and laid on the desk, a paper Burger Kingler cup sitting next to them. The phone in his hand beeped occasionally.[break][break]

It played a 'game over!' sound about the time that the other two came in.[break][break]

Tempest smiles at the two, much more relaxed, and accepts the kiss. He takes the chance to try and covertly pinch Cillian on the ass (though he wouldn't be embarrassed if Ameena actually saw).[break][break]

"Yeah, caught me at a good time." His hair is all mussed up and bits of grime are streaked on his cheeks. "Free for a few hours."

The large lab sprawls around them, which only makes her more nervous. Somehow, a confined space would make her feel safer, like her panic only has so many places to go - but here, she has plenty of rope to hang herself with. [break][break]

At least Temp isn't on the brink of killing her. [break][break]

She doesn't know how much Cillian's shared about the reason they're gathered, so she introduces it anyways. "This is like we talked about previously, Temp. The semi-waking, semi-sleeping state that Musharna can induce will project the unconscious mind's work - that that the subconscious produces - while you remain conscious. You may feel sluggish, but you will be totally aware." She releases Musharna from her pokeball. "This requires you to clear your mind."[break][break]

She didn't look at Cillian, but rather Temp, who would be far more receiving to this as a whole. "You can sit or stand, though I recommend the former. This should not take long at all; in fact, I expect the proximity of you two to more quickly find this dream than the other study participants as they visited this dreamy terrain solo. Together, your minds already have an innate link because of the study, further strengthened by the bond you already have." Though, she wouldn't ask if they had developed the symptoms from the bond, like dreaming of the other more frequently or developing some degree of obsession for the other. [break][break]

She took a breath. "If you are ready, I can have Musharna generate the dreamy terrain."

Cillian's tense enough that Temp's 'subtle' pinch makes him jump, doubtless drawing Ameena's attention to the act if she were studying them at all. He swats his husband in silent rebuke, though there's no heat or force behind it. To Ameena, Cillian might merely seem distracted. Temp, who knew him about as well as he knew himself, would know intimately how uncomfortable the underboss was with this whole ordeal.[break][break]

His attention snaps to the Musharna with suspicion the moment it's released. Temp knew, too, the deep distrust that Cillian had for psychic Pokemon.[break][break]

Cillian doesn't notice he's clenching his jaw until it starts to ache, at which point he forces a breath from his mouth to relieve the tension.[break][break]

He doesn't think he'll ever feel ready.[break][break]

Silently, he draws a pokeball from his belt and releases the occupant. Any alarm Ameena might feel with the action may be somewhat abated by the fact that the Lucario who emerges is not a Shadow Pokemon; the Aura Pokemon flicks its ears uncomfortably as it takes in the tension of the room, a soft growl rumbling in its throat. It recognizes Tempest, narrowing its eyes toward Ameena.[break][break]

"It's OK, Faolan," Cillian says levelly, lowering himself into a chair. It was definitely not OK. He hooks a foot around another nearby chair to pull it closer for Temp to sit next to him. "I just want you to watch over me. Okay?"[break][break]

He exchanges a long look with the jackal, who huffs after a moment and nods, curt.[break][break]

"As long as nothing happens to me," Cillian says, looking now to Ameena. "He won't do anything to you."[break][break]

He gestures with one hand to the Musharna, wordlessly affording consent as he reaches for Temp's hand with the other.

Tempest only gives a small smile to Cillian Quinn, trying to help dispel the tension in his own way. Yet he doesn't call out any pokemon of his own for the moment. He trusts ameena abadi enough for this, is blinded by them both being loyal to Rocket. He accepts his husband's offered seat and hand and sinks back to try and relax.[break][break]

It isn't hard to do. The last few weeks have been rough.[break][break]

"Nothing will happen to us." Tempest says with confidence. If only to help ease the other's mind.[break][break]

A glance at Ameena to confirm that was true.[break][break]

"How long do you think this will last?" If it was a short time, that might make Cillian feel more comfortable. He was, technically, also on a time limit. Walsh wouldn't be pleased if Temp showed up late for his next mission.[break][break]

A sudden yawn cracked his jaw, even before the mist had started. At least it wouldn't be hard for him to relax for this.

She first met Faolan when she and Cillian had walked city streets and discussed Rocket politics. She remembered watching the Lucario get charmed by some pokemon and get swapped out for Dhelmise, who was immune to those charms. It was a fond memory. Cillian had been more approachable than his reputation led anyone to believe. Learning his relation to Lulu had only caused her to appreciate him more. It made her betrayal so much more devastating.[break][break]

She took a deep breath. Her own emotions could negatively impact the treatment, so she had to compartmentalize just as she had for all the others. [break][break]

"Less than ten minutes," she offered. If their minds settled into it, it could take about five. She wouldn't pitch such an optimistic number, though, not when Cillian was clearly so resistant. [break][break]

She looked to Musharna, whose mist began to spread lowly across the floor, a dreamy terrain filling the environment. "Think of nothing. Just be present, beside each other." She took several steps backwards from them to give extra space. "Acclimate to the present of the mist. Your mind will follow." Partial sleepiness began to claim her, making her eyelids heavy.

He's endured worse tortures for longer. He can do this.

Tempest Quinn would feel the tightness of his grip, betraying the fear that floods him at the sight of the mist rolling over the floor. Cillian tries to tell himself that this is different than the other times he's experienced such things, that ameena abadi has no authority over him and wouldn't dare manipulate an underboss, but the mantra offers only small comfort. His heart rate doesn't slow.

Think of nothing should be an impossible task, but Rocket's taught him that, too.

He closes his eyes for a moment to block out the mist, and empties his thoughts. If he felt nothing, thought nothing, then he would be safe. That was how he'd survived in Kanto.

When he opens his eyes, they're glazed with distance.
[break][break]
His eyelids droop as sleep threatens, but the terrain prevents them from closing again.

Tempest would weakly return Cillian Quinn's squeeze, but he was already fading fast.[break][break]

Soon enough, just like his husband, Tempest would fall to the dream mist. Distant and glazed over, his chest would rise and fall in soft tandem as if asleep. They would stare sightlessly at ameena abadi as it spread.[break][break]

Soft and delicate.[break][break]

But then a sudden feeling of something dark lurking within, pulled from the depths of Tempest's subconscious.

Overexposure to Musharna's mist and even this specific dream terrain make it difficult for the mist to stimulate her mind on the standard dose. For the others, however, she can see the beginning of a visible dream form from their linked minds. [break][break]

What must be their house forms around the room, though it is somewhat abstract. Details are missing, and sometimes furniture floats, but it is grounded enough to set the scene. She sees them enter, sees their mouths move. Their words are not audible to her in the mist, but to the two who dreamed it - who lived it - the words can be clear as day. [break][break]

She does her best to avoid reading the lips of the dream-manifestations of her superiors. This moment is not for her to learn of the intimate memories corrupted by the dream study, but to learn of how the dream forms more concretely when generated from two minds, from two perspectives of the same unconscious event. [break][break]

The discussion between the dream husbands grows heated.
